Now say the Rockets draft Ming. Aside from everything else they have to give the Chinese team a player in return. Say they agree on Player X. Does he have to go there and play? What happens if he refuses?

I hadn't heard this before.

All I've heard is: $$$ (to the Chinese govt and his team), a deal to do camps or such in Shanghai and knowing that Ming will leave the team whenever China has to play int'l competitions, like the Worlds or Olympics.

There you go.

Given that, I wouldn't draft Yao Ming.

So if the Rockets feel that Yao Ming isn't worth the potential headaches, should they trade their pick for a proven big man? I don't think drafting somebody like Jay Williams would make any sense (unless they make him trade bait) since a guy by the name of Steve Francis has that position taken.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if the Rockets did, in fact, make that trade.

But you know someone is going to pick Yao, and then we'll have a major Player's Association problem on our hands.

Philly is rumored to be offering Mutombo and the #16 for the #1, Rice, and Cato. The salaries do match up under the CBA so this trade is possible.

If anyone wants to check a possible trade here is the link I used:
