And I thought Palumbo and O'Haire's music was a pretty blatant 2112 ripoff...click here to see a worse one.

Because ironcladlou happens to be a Rush fan - and he's got the time to post 5 million threads.

As for the musical -

I remember seeing a movie on VH1 starring Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees in a musical version of the Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". This musical, I think, will rank right up there with that movie.

Though I'm not familiar with the story of 2112, I think this story sounds fairly similar to the Who's unfinished concept album, Lifehouse.

I see 2 active Rush threads in this forum. If you don't like it, don't read them. Start threads about bands you like. Oh, and while you're at it, kiss my ass.

I was referring to the rock opera Lifehouse - conceived in *1970* - which fell apart when Pete Townshend started his nervous breakdown in 1971. It was planned to start with "Baba O'Riley" and end with "Won't Get Fooled Again".

Yeah, I'm familiar with it. I was just posting a link to the lyrics, I wasn't trying to emphasize the date. Maybe Rush did rip off the Who, who really knows? 2112 was actually a finished work, however, so I'm gonna stick with the idea that Rush is who Queen is ripping off here.

To be precise, Ben Elton is ripping off Rush/The Who - Queen (with the help of a member of the Stock, Aitken & Waterman production team which made Rick Astley a star) is simply providing the music. Much like the relationship between the Beatles and the aforementioned "Sgt. Pepper's" movie.

Ahhhh, come on. They list Queen as the inspiration, and Brian May and Roger Taylor obviously have major roles in the production. Collaborating to produce a plagiarized work makes you a plagiarist in my eyes.

Rick Astley made it in the US?! I feel the need to apologise on behalf of my Queen and country...

Please. This is such an overused concept that nobody has any right to claim "plagiarism" (sp?) Rush were not the first band to do this concept and Queen will not be the last. Anyway who cares if the concept isn't original... the music will be. Personally the mere idea of Brian May and Roger Taylor working together again gives me goosbumps.

My wife and my brother-in-law are giant fans of this (and I'm pretty sure it's in my wife's blog somewhere, too) - I like it fine. I agree about the "33 1/3" rating.
