I like Anne Hathaway quite a bit, but I dunno. As much as I hero worship Chris Nolan, his casting of female characters in Batman has not been the absolute very best. Katie Holmes, of course. Maggie Gyllenhaal was an upgrade acting-wise in The Dark Knight. Anne Hathaway, though? I guess we'll see.
More exciting: Tom Hardy will play BANE. I guess all the Hugo Strange rumors were for naught. (And I'm kind of glad.)
I'm OK with this. I haven't had any qualms with the casting in the last two films. I mean, I trusted Ledger would be good based on Brokeback Mountain, but no one had any idea he'd do so well in that role.

Oh, I'm okay with Anne Hathaway. More than okay. I mean, Anne Hathaway in that black slinky Catsuit... I'm VERY okay with that.
I guess my trepidation is in Anne Hathaway being maybe too big a star for the role. Let me explain: Part of the general genius of Nolan's casting choices is that he has chosen really good actors (not necessarily full on "movie stars") for his roles.
Starting with Christian Bale himself, Michael Caine, Ken Watanabe, Liam Neeson (arguably the biggest "name" in 2005), Katie Holmes (the only iffy choice), Ken Watanabe, Cillian Murphy... And then leading to Heath Ledger, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Eckhart... That's an impressive array of ACTORS. Tom Hardy fits that bill as well. Not that Anne Hathaway isn't a good actor, she is. But she's more of a MOVIE STAR. It feels like a 1990s stunt casting from the Schumacher movies.
I'm not up in arms by any means. I like Anne Hathaway; I expect she'll be great. I'm very curious and look forward to how she and Nolan will create a new Catwoman different from Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Julie Newmar, Lee Meriweather, and Eartha Kitt. Just as Ledger's Joker was different from Jack Nicholson and Cesar Romero.

Don't get your hopes up. The production design could give us a new look.

Unless the new look is "wear tires so that she looks like the Michelin Man", I think she'll pull it off.

I'm surprised they're going with Catwoman as the villan (or, one of them), considering the Halle Berry movie is probably still pretty fresh in people's minds.
I'm not saying they won't be able to pull off a great movie that will make us forget all about Berry's Catwoman movie, but I'd have gone with some other villan- preferably one we havn't seen in any of the previous series' movies.

You could say the same thing about rebooting the Batman franchise with Batman & Robin still fresh in people's minds. B&R & Batman Begins were 8 years apart, as will be Catwoman & DKR.

But I doubt many people think of the Batman movies when you mention the Halle Berry movie. They didn't really have anything to do with the Batman character, right?
I don't know much about Bane, other than that he broke Batman's back, so it'll be interesting (to me) to see if they go in that direction or somewhere else.
I'm guessing the Bane character will be much closer to how he was portrayed after, rather than during, the whole back-breaking ordeal. That Bane is an intelligent strategist in addition to being a giant scary guy. Also, if a decent chunk of time is devoted to his childhood, growing up in that creepy prison, that'll be some good cinema.

I think its probably due to Hally Berry as Catwoman that we get Selina now. DC probably wants to wash that image away. I heard a movie called Bronson with Hardy in it was a good indicator on what he brings to the table. Bane set-up Knightfall and that was as close as anyone has gotten since RIP of getting Bruce out of the way. I wonder if they will go with the breaking Batman scene and introduce the Knightfall suit at the end. A little disappointed they aren't going to the psychological route, but something tells me Dark Victor not Prey is going to be the basis of the movie storyline. All they really need is another freak mob boss to get against Bane maybe Penguin.
The only real concern I have is that Bruce Wayne is going to be sitting on his ass for half the movie, if they do the "Knightfall" story (which, being the last Nolan Batman movie, makes some sense for a story).

A much lower percentage of people saw the Halle Berry Catwoman compared to any previous Batman movie, including Batman and Robin. And I would wager that of the people who saw it, most have actively forgotten (or wish to forget) that Halle Berry was Catwoman.
Hell, I even forgot Halle was Catwoman and edited my above post to include her.
Oh, Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman was briefly referenced in Halle Berry's Catwoman. They showed a picture of her as one of the many "Catwomen" over the years who were possessed of the cat spirit, or some shit like that.
Now, please, for the love of God, let us never speak of Halle Berry's Catwoman again.

I know they quote Nolan in the article, but after the Riddler rumors, then the Dr. Strange rumors, I'm still skittish believing this.
Hathaway has the acting chops to pull off what's needed. I do agree, she is the glamourous Hollywood starlet in comparison to the last to female leads, but she can deliver the goods as well as just get cast for being pretty. Sadly, she'll still be behind Julie Newmar as hottest Catwoman, and I'll be interested to see how Nolan plays out the dynamic of Catwoman and Batman.
Tom Hardy is a good choice as Bane, and Bane is a good choice for a followup to Joker. Brilliant strategist that sees opportunity thanks to Joker, Batman, and Two-Face pretty much wiping out every other criminal organization in Gotham. If they do Knightfall, they've already busted Arkham open, you'd have a wicked interraction with Mr. Zsasz, who was already set up in the first movie, though you'd have to skirt a few villain cameos and Azrael.

I'm very on board with this casting news. Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy are awesome. Pencil both of them in for supporting Oscar nominations in 2012.

And whoever says "Trust Nolan" should remember that we were all trusting Sam Ramai after Spider-Man 2.
Bane makes some sense if you're looking to hunt down Batman. He's been outflanked and outnumbered (Ra's) and outfoxed (Joker). Can he be overpowered? Bane provides that possibility.
Also, say Gothma wants a hero to fill the void of losing Dent and Batman in one night. Bane could be that temporary hero. Until he goes nuts and Bats has to take him down and redeem himself to the public.

Fans killed Spidey 3 for their constant whining for Venom as soon as the Black suit was shown. Its not as terrible as X-Men 3 that was the worst piece of shit ever. I trust Nolan more after Inception then after Dark Knight. I will be shocked if these are the only two villains in the flick either and this being the last one, too.
