@mattign

@CMPunk crashed #WWE's #ComicCon panel and confronted Triple H

We knew Punk was at Comicon. Wasn't expecting an angle.

This is all kinds of awesomeness.

Being down the street from Comic-Con and stuck in the Jury lobby for Jury Duty is not.

Fowler's recap: http://tv.ign.com/articles/118/1183201p1.html

Punk apparently showed up at the audience microphone, bullhorn & title belt in hand, and said he wasn't happy with the new champion tourney on RAW. Then he asked Triple H & Brian Gerwitz (he was on a panel for the toys?) why Zack Ryder wasn't used on TV. And the icing on the cake:

"[Hunter] told Punk to give him a call. Punk responded by telling Hunter that he was sure Stephanie had his number."

There's video of it all forthcoming too...

Love it.

this is ... wow ... this is just great stuff ... I honestly don't remember being this excited about wrestling & an angle since the nWo days ...

They may never replicate a Stone Cold Steve Austin, but they're gonna get about as close as they can with Punk ...

In related news...

From earlier today:

@sportsguy33 Bill Simmons
Hopefully taping a podcast with @cmpunk today. He's MIA with the WWE belt but in SoCal apparently. Also: new column coming this afternoon.

And here's his column, which is his take on the Punk story, along with Simmons' list of the best entrance themes of all time (Great choice for #1, but how could he not know Lemmy sings Hunter's?):

And here I thought that seeing The Flash on a Segway would be the highlight of Punk's Comic-Con experience.

And just like that, I'm interested in Raw again.

Also to note, that video now looks like Punk's official YT account, so worth keeping an eye on.

AWESOME!

I love the idea that he can just show up anywhere/anytime and be a pain in the ass to WWE corporate. Those guys in the crowd must've crapped their pants, did you see all the cameraphones?

Love how the former DX member who showed up to invade WCW is now on the other side and hs to be the corporate guy.

Hats off to whoever is coming up with this storyline.

I'm sorry, but any "Best Entrance Theme" list that doesn't include Demolition's theme is immediately invalid. I'm sorry.

Punk is going to be a huge deal, way bigger than Cena, but he'll be in that tier juuuuuuuuuust below Hogan, Austin, and The Rock. It's an incredible angle--there's no denying that--but I think it's a bit idealistic to think it's the Second Coming of Austin because Punk knows how and where to appeal to his fan-base. He's really not the "Voice of the Voiceless" at all, in my opinion.

That clip just made me think of Scumbag Punk: Appears as a "Man of the People"; Makes sure to leave with security.

This is all serious business.

from Bill Simmons:
"But how far are you going with an "Ass Man" theme song and gimmick? Are you really holding the WWE title for five years? I think this is why Billy Gunn made my wife a grande caramel low-fat macchiato last week."

LOL! Poor Billy Gunn.

Plus he's got his whole "who used it first"-timeline messed up because I know I was marking out to WCCW entrances with Stranglehold, Tom Sawyer, Bad to the Bone, etc. before Hulk Hogan showed up on WWF TV.

Kudos for his #1 choice though.

What I worry about is how much Triple H is going to be willing to sell this thing. The reason Austin Vs. McMahon worked was because Vince was willing to make an ass of himself to put Austin over. HHH has always had that clique mentality of making sure you look good regardless of being a heel or face.

Yeah, this is my great worry, too. Even in the video Hunter takes shots at him with the Unemployment line joke and the champ defends the title to which is ironic considering Hunter's limited wrestling over the last year. Vince got some shots at Punk as well during their last promo, but ultimately allowed Punk to work the rest of the promo after his shots.

HHH with a live mic is the WWE equivalent of a nuclear bomb. He knows how to play to the crowd and is able to plant seeds of doubt about his opponents' abilities. Its a credit to his ability to do promos. If anyone is going to derail this, its going to be Hunter. Yet, I think HHH knows this is the first time everyone including the boys are going to see what he is going to do with this power. He probably knows destroying one of the most talked about and unique angles in years is not going to win him points. He is smart enough to know that.

Its has that catchy guitar rift at the begining. And that whipering singing voice before kicking in full volume. It works for me sence ECW.

No love for Kurt Angle's "Medal?" Best chant at the wrestler theme of all time.

Nous ne nous pouvons pas sortir.
Even if he were stupid enough to want to sink this, and he isn't, I'm not sure Hunter's capable of completely dissecting Punk on the mic. Punk has no glaring weaknesses as a performer that would let HHH plant those seeds of doubt in a live audience.

No no, don't you guys see? You're playing right into WWE's hands ... They've pitted the internet fans' greatest hero against their greatest villain. It's genius.
