This is from Billboard.com. So, the PTC dislikes the Osbournes and Raw, but likes the Powerpuff Girls and Spongebob Squarepants? Those last two shows are as suggestive as most adult cartoons. In fact, they are entertaining on both a kids and adults level, not unlike the early episodes of the Simpsons. And Making the Band? I've never seen it, but isn't this show about making a fake boy group? Comments?
A TV watchdog group denounced MTV yesterday (Aug. 1) for excessive raunchiness in a new report, "The Ten Best and Worst Shows on Cable Television of the 2001/2002 Season." MTV programs like "The Osbournes" and "The Real World" comprise half of the Parents Television Council's (PTC) "Worst" list, which is rounded out by offerings on FX, TNN, and Comedy Central.
L. Brent Bozell III, founder and president of the PTC, feels that MTV's plethora of salacious programming targeted at teen viewers can no longer be ignored. "One of the things we're looking at is making a much bigger deal about MTV," he said. "Parents don't watch MTV, and I suspect they don't know what's on it."
Other MTV shows on the PTC's list are "Undressed," "Celebrity Deathmatch" and "The Andy Dick Show." The other spots are filled by FX's "The Shield," which topped the list, TNT's "Witchblade," TNN's "WWE Raw Is War," and two series from Comedy Central: "South Park" and "The Man Show." MTV declined comment on the PTC report until it could be reviewed.
Madison Avenue observers and cable networks scoffed at the notion that the PTC will have any effect on advertising or ratings, particularly in light of a recent WWE suit that may have tarnished PTC's reputation.
Last month, the PTC paid $3.5 million to the WWE as part of an out-of-court settlement regarding claims the organization made, in addition to posting a letter of apology on its Web site. The PTC had charged that the UPN series "WWE Smackdown!" was to blame for the deaths of several children and overestimated the number of advertisers who had pulled spots from the broadcast.
Comedy Central spokesman Tony Fox dismissed the PTC's new report. "After their fiasco with the WWE, I question whether they have any credibility whatsoever," he said. FX spokesman John Solberg said the network's placement on the PTC's list doesn't merit comment. "'The Shield' is one of the most critically acclaimed series in all of television," he said. "It received three Emmy nominations. The record speaks for itself."
The PTC also paid homage to the 10 shows it thought were especially family-friendly. In order, they are: "State of Grace" (ABC Family), "The Brothers Garcia" and "SpongeBob SquarePants" (Nickelodeon), "So Little Time" (ABC Family), "Lizzie McGuire" (Disney), "Caitlin's Way" (Nick), "The Powerpuff Girls" (Cartoon Network), "Even Stevens," (Disney), "Making the Band" (MTV), and "Nero Wolfe" (A&E).
Are you ready for Mahkan-mania to run wild all over you?
It's looks like the PTC's fight with the WWE is coming back to bite them in the ass. i respect that they have the right to their opinion, but they try to cram it down people's throats with their harassing letter campaigns to advertisers. While I do agree that just about everything on MTV is garbage, I felt "the shield" was one of the bests shows on tv. Hopefully, since they had to pay off WWE and post that apology, people will be taking them less seriously, and maybe even dismiss them outright.
The PTC just doesn't like anything that's even marginally questionable. Please note that their list of "good" shows consists solely of shows aimed at people under the age of 14, with perhaps one exception. Personally, I know of no one who watches any of those shows except of State of Grace, which my parents watch (Go figure). Even so, the majoriy of adults would have no desire to even hear of these programs, unless their children wanted to watch them.
On the other hand, I've seen every single one of the shows on the "bad" list except for Witchblade, and I'll be honest, none of them is particularly an evil show except for The Man Show, and that's what they're aiming for. My guess is that good old Brent has a bug up his ass for nearly every show offered by every network, but doesn't have the balls to ask ABC and NBC to remove shows like NYPD Blue and Saturday Night Live. So he takes pot-shots at cable shows that seem particularly risque.
As an added note, Undressed is the best show on the planet. Its the only show I know of that you can not see for months, then tune in and feel like you've missed absolutely nothing.
"Sales of penis-enlargement treatments and devices in 2000 totaled in excess of $600 million," Skolnick said. "Cock-lengthening is, no pun intended, a consistent growth industry in the U.S., and this bill would severely emasculate it. As usual, it's the little guy who suffers."
Hell, my three year old daughter started saying stuff like she killed him and such from watching the powerpuff girls. I find that objectionable just because it took forever to explain that they weren't "killing" each other and it was bad to say you are going to kill someone or are killing someone. She has watched wrestling with me forever and never had any such thing to say. I think the PTC are way too full of themselves and their "beliefs". I'm sure Boz(o)ell has plenty of skeletons in his closet just begging to be brought out like all the self-righteous overbearing f**ks out there trying to shove their beliefs down our throats.
The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. I can fuck better than anybody who can fuck faster, and I can fuck faster than anybody who can fuck better.
The real scary thing is that media outlets and advertisers still listen to these people. I really don't know what's scarier that or that there are actual lazy parents that want a "council" to do there thinking for them.
I don't get it, everyone loves rats, but they don't want to drink the rats milk?
Originally posted by JakegnosisIf there is a more halfass organization out there (except the Navy), I'd like to know what it is. They can't even get their facts straight. Does anyone actually listen to these people?
http://www.family.org/pplace/pi/ These freaks do. They even quote the PTC in several articles, *conveiniently* ignoring the PTC's apology to WWE.
Now I know people who use Coke in their BBQ Sauce or Chili, same goes for Dr. Pepper. I know people who use Pepsi or Coke to marinate their venison. I use 7up in my Date Nut Bread recipe but I have never seen Root Beer Float Cake.
