Updates:
- PS3 Firmwire 2.20 should show up by the end of the month. It seems split between updating the Blue Ray ability (where you left on a disc is saved, so it'll pick up there even if you watch something else in between) and music/photo cross platform integration (playlist sharing with PSP, save files to your hard drive from the internet browser.)

- Rock Band will be adding an in game store, rather than having quit the game and go to PS Network. This sounds/looks much better.

on the shelves

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (and limited edition) (The W at Amazon) (link is for the limited edition) [gamestats] - more than an upgrade from the last game, but not an entire new game. In is the ability to run, out is the four player co-op story (now down to two.) It's very good, but it is recycled.

Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds [gamestats] - arcade golf, and somewhat limited with only six courses to choose from. It sounds like an easy to pick up fun game that takes advantage of next gen for an improved look, though possibly making it's characters too cute. It's an easily a step ahead off..

Sega Superstars Tennis [gamestats] - which is dragged down in the category of cute spots by lots of repetitive minis games and feels like a nostalgia purchase, relying on gamers to like the old Sega characters as much as they might for a similar Nintendo game. If you remember who people like Beat, Gum, Ulala and Alex Kidd are, maybe this game is for you.

Condemned 2: Bloodshot [gamestats] - first person horror shooter, very bloody and very violent. Doesn't sound very long, and the multiplayer isn't much, but it nails it's theme pretty well.

Karaoke Revolution: American Idol Encore [gamestats] - pass.

in the store

Game Demos
- Condemned 2: Bloodshot
- Sega Superstars Tennis

Add On Game Content
- Rock Band: Ear Ache Thrashpack 1 ($2 each, or all for $5.50)
* "Blinded by Fear" by At the Gates
* "DOA" by the Haunted
* "Thrasher" by Evile

- Tiger Woods '08
* Doral Golf Resort Blue Monster Course ($5)
* Turnberry Golf Resort {free!}
* Maxed Out Player {$2.50}

$5 seems a bit much for a new course, but the timing is pretty good. They should've have been releasing things more frequently, but people still seem to be getting the hang of that.

I had been waiting a LONG time for Hot Shots 5. I have played #4 to death waiting for this to come out.

They do force you to play with the new hitting system in a few courses with "special rules." It takes a while to get use to, but it's ok.

The graphics are amazing, as expected, and I can't wait to try out the online mode when I unlock a few more people.

Also, I got the firmware update last night. I was wondering what it was going to update because I didn't get that "here is what changed" screen I usually get with an update.

This firmware update hasn't shipped yet, but there was another one a week ago that cleaned up some online gaming bugs.

I can imagine embarrassing results for a person using the Blu Ray player as a masturbation aid.

Say you're watching that scene in Mulholland Drive, or Bound, or Wild Things, or whatever. You ... finish, and turn the movie off. Some undetermined time later, some friends come over and you decide to watch Mulholland Drive again. You put it in, and it immediately returns right to that scene. Oops.

That is really no different from any regular DVD player. My SD 5+1 player has a 50 DVD memory.

If the DVD you just started playing was one of the last 50 you watched, it will pick it up where you left off.

THBBBBBPT~! Here's a question: How fricking difficult could it be to come up with an actual COOL tennis sim? Virtual Tennis 3 is OK, but can I PLEASE get a game where the season mode is like an ACTUAL season (SCPT2 on PS2 was pretty close), I can hit the ball OUT (BARELY possible in VT3, IMPOSSIBLE on SCPT2), AND I can PLAY AN ENTIRE MATCH IN CAREER MODE IF I WANT?

I can play a 9-inning baseball game if I want. I can run 500 miles at Daytona if I want. I can play 15-minute quarters and have scores like 174-148 on Madden if I want. Yet, I'm stuck playing four-game "matches" in career mode on VT3. Give me a break It can't be THAT hard.

Now 2.20 is out. I just got the "System update is required" message while playing Hot Shots.

So what we're saying is I left my PS3 on all day, and it's probably not Folding because it's waiting for an update? That's lovely.

I even was playing Burnout up around 9 PM last night. I must've just missed the update.

Do you leave yours on and let it keep folding all day? I've been letting it load a work unit and then setting it for automatic shutdown because I'm paranoid tat I will burn something out if I leave it on constantly.

I should be more paranoid, but I have had mine running mostly non-stop since Dec/Jan.

I am planing to have it off at least one day a week, if not more.

Normally I only have it on when I'm home - turn it on when I get home in the evening and turn it off before I go to bed. I usually don't trust it to run on it's own.

In the past, my PS3 stops at the completion of latest work unit when it's waiting for an update, but this one kept on running, so I didn't waste any time. It did sign me out of PSNetwork until I ran the update.
