Everyone in the Sony world took last week off. I meant to do something YIR type instead, but opted for nothing instead.

Nothing PSP wise this week.

The MAG beta opens to all this week - anyone trying it?

I only started playing it this weekend but I'm so bummed that the Beta ended last night. I was really getting addicted to that game.

I liked Unreal, Call of Duty, and other shooters, but for some reason, this game has sucked me in so much that I will actually try to pick it up on the release date.

I don't know what it is. I do love the MMORPG aspect in the sense that it's 64+ people fighting depending on the mission and you get skill points to improve your character as you go up in rank (level). I was able to get to level 4 in two days and was able to upgrade my assault rifle for the Raven squad (which I've read on the forums is a group that has high accuracy weapons, but low damage. We would all get owned by the SVERs who have low accuracy but high damage)

I hope things get balanced out on the full release.

I meant to try it, but I think I ended up playing TNMT instead. Maybe not my best choice, still kinda fun.

My worry about games like these (and all MMORPG games, really) is that unless I'm playing on day 1 and grinding out hours there after, I'll end up getting smoked by those who do. Maybe not by everyone, but enough that it won't be fun.

How was it with 64 players? Did it feel like there were actually 64, or were you all spaced out enough that it didn't feel like most of them existed?

I didn't play long enough to get to level 10 to unlock the "deathmatches" that they had, so I was stuck on the Sabotage levels. Basically you are either on attack or defense, how it chooses which faction is which at the start is unknown.

Two teams of eight have to attack (or defend) two targets and keep them under control. If both attacking squads have it under control at the same time before the time limit expires, a third objective unlocks. All 16 on each side have to run to attack/defend it. If it is destroyed then the attacking side wins.

In the 1st phase, it's 8-8 with the objective right in the middle of the spawn points. The action is pretty fast and furious. If you attack and get to the 3rd objective, all the squads mix and the attackers spawn is paragliding in from a cargo plane and you have to rush uphill against a strong defensive position.

I play with 5.1 and it feels like you're in a 16 v 16 firefight.

One thing I really like is that this isn't like CoD in the sense that you can't get shot up too much before you die. 5-6 hits from an assault rifle, max. You can just jump in guns blazing w/o any strategy. Smoke grenades and cover are good ways to advance and to take out camping snipers.

You will get smoked by more longtime players because you can advance your weaponry by using your skill points when you level, but you get exp just by playing. You get exp by: assisting on a kill (everyone who did damage gets some exp), getting the final kill shot, assisting on objectives, completing objectives, and being on the winning side (more for a complete victory, some for a minor one)

I was getting schooled by many people but I advanced to level 4 over the weekend and was able to put a vertical foregrip to make my assault rifle more stable and it was more accurate to fire. There was barrel crawl when firing.

It felt really action-packed with 32 players, I can't wait to be on a 64 player map.

What are your thoughts on Duck Amuck? I thought it was pretty cute but I don't know if it was worth buying. $10 is probably the right price for it.
