I know I'm behind the times, but I've come across a puzzling problem. I bought the WWE 2006 game used a year or so ago and it never really worked right and would often just spin in my Playstation doing nothing, I always figured it was because it was used and it must have been a bad copy.

Well, today I bought the 2007 version brand new expecting to get my wrestling kicks without glitches ... only this one is even worse and won't even load and makes the weird spinning sound without loading at all.

Other games work fine. Is it possible I bought TWO bad copies from the same manufacturer or is my PS2 just dying and unable to read certain discs from certain companies. Oddly enough my real old 'Here Comes the Pain' WWE game works fine.

Thoughts?

Sounds obvious, but what condition are the discs in? All it takes is one tiny but deep scratch to render them useless. Have you tried using the PS2 with a game not made by THQ? It's a long shot, but there might be a issue there.

Well, the one I bought today is mint. I haven't had a problem with any other game, just these two.

If it helps when it is trying to do something it makes a loud clicking and it sounds like it is working harder.

What color are the bottom of the CD's? Blue/Black bottomed ones can cause this problem. I had to realign the laser a couple times in my PS2 to get it to work with certain games.

If you have the older PS2 system with the sliding out drawer, then try playing your game with your console sitting on its side. If the game suddenly works, then its your console.

I had the same thing happen to me on a couple of my PS2 games years ago. All my games played perfectly except for two of them. I tried doing the "laying the console on its side trick" while I loaded and played the game, and it worked for awhile. But eventually even that stopped working and my other games eventually stopped working also. I ran out and bought the newer thin PS2 and all my games played perfectly again.

Is there anyone you know with a PS2 that you can try and see if your WWE game works on their console?

I had this exact same problem happen with SmackDown vs. Raw 2007, and I wound up destroying my PS2 trying to fix it. Apparently there's something with the disc that just doesn't like the old PS2s, and they won't play. Take it to a game store and have them look at it; I had to get a slim PS2 to replace the old one that I broke, but you might be able to get it working.

I actually took the whole thing apart, cleaned it and put it back together again. Lucky for me I guess the PS2 still worked, but the game still did not. I wasn't going to be able to sleep right last night until I knew if it was my PS2 or my dumb luck, so I drove all the way back to Wal Mart to exchange the thing. They swapped it out and upon returning I found that I just have really strange luck. The game has worked fine thus far without a glitch.

Hopefully, the game and console hold out. Last night at least I basked in wrestling greatness. The game has one of the better rosters, so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the tips

cheers

Here's more (ps2.ign.com). The gist: The GBA Kingdom Hearts will be a direct sequel to the original, and the new PS2 game will take place several years after that.
