I tried vaccuming out the dust, I tried the ol' air in a can with the little straw thing... no dice.
Anyone got any ideas before I send it to Sony for a lengthy and likley costly profession cleaning?

Just head down to the local hardware place and plunk down the cash for a new one (it'll be less expensive than repairs).
Two hours later they decided to stop at a diner Because they loved the smell of eggs and coffee I just had to smoke a cigarette and wear a hat By the time that they set off again, the sun was starting to set It made the sky look red like a nuclear ray One of them said "what do you want more than anything in this whole wide world Do you want money, do you want sex, or do you want all that success?" I thought about that one myself (Then they came upon the thing)

I gave my old broken PS1 to my brother in law because I thought it was hosed, and he was able to realign the laser or something and got it working again (flawlessly).
You might want to do some research, he found the info online somewhere.

I called the PS2 help line (or whatever it's called)...They said they couldn't diagnose the problem over the phone, so they had me send it to them and they fixed it free of charge due to the fact that they couldn't diagnose the problem over the phone! It came back about a week and a half later good as new! Try this first before buying a new one...Total cost: 8 dollars in shipping. Not a bad deal.

You could probably pick up a system and second controller w/ memory card for $99 if you want to get up early and shop on Friday. I think it was Best Buy that had the deal (and last year, I was able to get some of the black friday prices on Thanksgiving eve on their website, fyi)

Just to follow-up on a previous story about a Black Friday sale at Wal*Mart on November 28th concerning a GameCube bundle - it's true. According to this week's newspaper insert Wal*Mart is selling a GameCube bundle for $79.44 that features The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition disc, a disc carrying case, one controller and a black GameCube system. Check your local Wal*Mart for availability. The Black Friday sale will take place from 6:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

Don't worry...They told me three weeks too...it was more like a week and a half. Luckily I had a buddy who rarely played his who gladly exhanged a six pack of Rolling Rock for his console.

OK, my PS2 also has a problem... I took it apart for some cleaning, and the silver cord that connects the reset button to the rest of the system came disconnected.... and I can't put it together. Can anyone who is used to this type of thing crack open their PS2 and just tell me where I'm supposed to plug it into? This is absolutely killing me here.
