I am going o be hooking up my PS2 and X-box online pretty soon. I know how X-box live works but I am a little confused how PS2 online works. I know you have to pay a fee for EA games online (not sure what it is), but what about games like THUG? Do you have to pay a seperate fee for that or not. DO you pay a fee to sony like you do for Microsfot that gives you access to all the online content? How does PS2 online work.

Also, I need to buy a cable modem. I already have an ethernet card, but when I buy a modem will I need to get a splitter to send the connection to my computer or consoles, or do most modems have multiple jacks already that would allow me to do this?

Mr. Burns: You are of course familiar with our state usury laws?
Homer:U-sur-y?
Mr. Burns: Oh silly me, I must have just used a word that doesn't exist.

The splitter device that you are thinking of is a Cable or DSL router. These devices are generally hooked up to the cable modem, and then the other devices (PC, Xbox, PS2) are plugged into the router. The advantage of this is that you do not have to pay for a seperate IP address for each of your devices - the router uses DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) to assign IP address, gateway, etc. information to your other devices.

I don't know about the online costs - I play Madden on the PC (sacriledge, I know)

Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.

EA SPORTS Online is completely free at the moment. I don't know if the other flavors of EA are the same, but I'd assume so.

Tony Hawk's sites make no mention of an online fee for PS2, so I'd assume no cose there either.

Of course, don't make a decision without realizing that at some point down the line, they will start charging for these things.

Sony has info about Online Gaming on their website.

There's no shame in that!

I have Madden 2002 on the PC and love the fact that I can create as many players as I want. Also, every attribute can be changed to my liking. With these features, I can make nice, accurate rosters. Online franchise seemed like a very cool feature, but I never used it.

Online Franchise for PS2 is something I'd go to EA's door and beg for if it'd get it done at this point.

Tony Hawk 3 and 4 both had free online play. I haven't played THUG online yet, but I did use the "download your face" feature and that was free, so I would assume the rest of the game is still free as well.

SSX3 and ATV2 also have free online play.
