According to 411mania.com, spiderman the movie is being added to the classics line (for x-box and GC as well). I was wondering how often they add titles to the classic lines. I have been waiting for Ratchet and Clank to drop to 20 bucks for awhile (ditto for sly cooper). Is there any web sites around that indicate if this will be happening soon?
Games become classics once they sell a certain number. In this case, Spider-Man went platinum*, so now its a classic. To know when Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper will be classics requires knowledge of how well they've been selling.
I suppose I should give up on hoping that any of the .hack series will become classics, shouldn't I?
It's not just sales, though that's one of the criteria. Otherwise, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City would've become a Greatest Hits title about 47 minutes after it was released.
The three criteria are:
* Sales in excess of 400,000 * On the market for more than nine months * The publisher _wants_ it to be a Greatest Hits title
(the last one being why GTA3 isn't Greatest Hits, though its price did eventually drop)

If I'm not mistaken, GTA3 is now in the Greatest Hits collection. Well, at least according to my local Best Buy ad. Quite at good deal at $20.

I've yet to see it with the red band across the top, but I did pick it up for $14.99 at Best Buy a couple of weeks ago. I've seen it for $19.99 pretty much everywhere else. A Vice City price drop may be imminent, as several retailers had it on sale for around $35 last week.

To open up your mind,
And watch the world spinning, gently out of time."
There is a EBgames ad is this months EGM that has GTA3 as a greatest hit along with Spider-Man, Stuntman, Testdrive, Crash Banicoot: The Wrath of Cortex and Scooby Doo: Night of 100 Frights.

That is correct. There are lots of games that meet the sales and time criteria AND drop in price without officially entering the program. It may eventually do so (as the last poster hinted at), and sometimes price drops hint at a change of status; I bought Spy Hunter (standard box) at a (reduced) $19.99 a week before the red-band version came out.
As for Vice City, that doesn't surprise me, as its sales were more tightly bunched around the launch date. GTA3 had a strong word-of-mouth effect that kept its sales steady; most potential purchasers of Vice were lined up at the door and bought it early, so the demand is lower now.

PSA: If you've thought about getting PS+, maybe this week's the time? The "buy a year, get 3 months deal" expires this time next week, while Sony's running a seperate "spend $50 on PSN, get $10 back deal right now until April 1st.
