Well, the second shipment is out. I am first in line for a premium at my local Gamestop and just got mine and a free used DVD (Wedding Crashers is the only thing that I didn't own from their selection) for not getting it launch day.

So the story goes if you happen to be a person who purchased a PSP, you will be able to download and play Playstation 1 games on it!! Wow, pretty neat stuff huh? Oh, problem is you can only do this via your PS3.

Oh yeah and you can't actually play them on your PS3 itself. Just download and transfer to your PSP. Well, next year you can play them on your PS3. Probably. Maybe. We'll see.

I'm not sure i understand. Are you saying the PS3 is not backward compatible with PSone games? Or are the downloaded games the games that can't be played on the PS3?

Either way, I can't wait to see if Tobal No. 1 is one of the titles availble. That, and Final Fantasy VIII.

Well you can play PS1 games if you have the original disc. Not all of them, but some. You'll have to stick it in and see if it works, as was already talked about.

but they are now going to offer a service where you can purchase and download PS1 games just like you can download games on the Wii or 360. Difference is these downloaded versions can't actually be used on the PS3, only on the PSP after being transfered there.

First, the PSP has wireless capabilities on it's own so why the fuck do you make people buy a PS3 to use something that would GREATLY help you sell PSP's? I mean seriously if you could do that just with a PSP I would even consider buying one. Second, why allow them to download to a system they can't be used on? I know they will likely make them work on there next year, but still.

Just an absurd situation all around.

No, it makes sense: the PS3 is merely a conduit of sorts: you download the games via the PS3 and transfer it to the PSP to play. I would imagine downloading to the PS3 would be a lot faster than transferring via wireless to the PSP's memory chip. THe PSP is a USB2.0 device, right?

I'm guessing the PSone games that can be downloaded to the PSP will be altered to take advantage of the PSP's control scheme, right?

Wait, a $600 conduit makes sense?

First, a lot of people will have their PS3 hooked up wireless anyway so it won't be any faster of a download than direct to their PSP.

Second, it's still absolutly retarded that a great feature for the PSP can't be used unless you also purchase a PS3.

The PS3 is seriously causing insanity.

The top one on eBay went for 30000 on release day, Sony are losing money on everyone they sell and of course, the guy who thought it would be a good idea to do this:

While I understand that the prices have being dropping recently, would you pay $1000 for something that will cost half of that in a month?

Worlds gone mad.

Or stupid.

...it's pixelated.

That said, you pay $600 for that, the box probably should come with some sort of orifice...

I try to avoid it, but I keep running across more negative stuff on this system. I mean I figured in a few years when it was a normal price and had some solid games I would eventually get it, but boy do they have a long way to go.

Two things I noticed for today:

Xplay makes so much fun of the PS3 launch games. Many shows they make sure to mention that everything other that Resistance is utter crap.

Second and this is the bigger one I think, the backward compatibility is horrible. Here's a link to an example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoCD9TwLrVs

PS2 and PS1 games actually end up looking MUCH worse than on the original system. Crazy. Especially now that I have my Wii componant cables and every Gamecube game I've tried in it looks better than it did on the Cube. Not to mention the BIG improvement in how Twilight Princess looks.

Over the holiday weekend, I went back home to visit my parents. My mom had to return something to KMART that she had gotten that didn't work. While we were there, I wandered back to the miniscule video game section KMART has. Imagine my surprise when I looked down at the bottom where they keep the systems and I saw a PS3. I didn't think it was real at first. But then the worker in that department came over to unlock the case for a woman, and the woman bought the PS3. If I was 5 minutes earlier, I would have had a difficult choice to make. I don't really want a PS3, (I rarely play the systems I already own) but it would have been difficult to pass it up.

I don't think they are hard to find anymore. You may have a somewhat difficult time in your market, but judging by conversation in various online forums, PS3s are sitting around collecting dust. Also, you can often get one on eBay at barely above, and sometimes below, retail. Of course, a seller is more likely to take a negative feedback than to sell you a PS3 below cost, but that just goes to show you how demand for the PS3 was artificially high.

Yeah I was just at Best Buy and they were walking around the store with a 60 gig PS3 trying to get people to notice and buy it. We were there for probably 45 minutes and they hadn't sold it as we walked out.

I just....feel so wonderful about this. Not just because I predicted it and thus am all knowing. No, more because it feels like the good guy is winning(Nintendo). And maybe Nintendo is run by bastards, I don't know. But they seem like such a nice, well run company and Sony just did everything it could to say screw you to gamers so this seems almost perfect.

One thing about the PS3 that I'm surprized that nobody's pointed out...is how slippery the L2 and R2 triggers are. I rented one this past weekend and had to wear those plastic thnings office workers wear on their figners when doing paperwork...to ensure good grip on the triggers.

I don't believe the system is wroth the price...yet. MotoStorm (if that's the name of the game) is one fun, fun game to play, if only for the crashes and stuff.

I walked past two of them in Wal-Mart on three different occasions here. No one seems to even be looking at the PS3 rack but MAN ALIVE the Nintendo rack is wasted.
I'll wait for the new Metal Gear and then I'll have a tough decision to make. Glad I have a Wii.

Sony Europe announced the European release date and price for the UK in the last couple of days. March 23rd. £425. According to XE.com's most recent exchange rate, that puts the PS3 in the UK at EIGHT HUNDRED AND THIRTY FOUR DOLLARS.

Fuck you, Sony.
