I work at a KBToys. We stopped selling video games about six months ago. Nonetheless, there were five or six poor bastards waiting outside the store for us to open this morning. They were not happy. It was not my problem.

I wouldn't worry about the Wii launch. Nintendo has reconfirmed "over" 1 million systems for Sunday's launch and easily 4 million by the end of the year compared with maybe 200K for the PS3 launch.

Heck from searching online I can see the Target closest to me is getting 60 and the Best Buy is getting over 100. Shouldn't be hard to get.

I'm grateful that my Blockbuster doesn't sell any system hardware, so I don't have to deal with the disappointment of "Ohhhh, he got the last $600 PS3, damn him to hell!", but I have gotten the question once of if we were going to be selling any. I just said no, and dude said "Okay."

I wasn't worrying about the Wii launch either, until last night I started driving/calling around and realized that lines were already forming at every single Best Buy, Circuit City, and Wal-Mart in my area. Sure, it wasn't as bad as with the PS3, where people were lining up multiple days in advance, but it showed me that my original plan of just walking up to a Circuit City or a Target Sunday afternoon wasn't going to work.

As a result, my friend and I ended up camping out at a Wal-Mart at 9:30p to get our Wiis 6:00a this morning. Just got home and haven't gotten a chance to set it up yet, but boy am I stoked!! I was only going to get Madden since the Wii comes with a game already, but I gave in to peer pressure and bought Twilight Princess too. (=

Dude, I could have written just about the exact same thing. I drove by the Target I was planning on hitting last night at about 1 am on my way home, saw some tents, and then when I went back at 5:00, there was a TON of people. So I hit my backup target, and wound up as #43 out of 51 available consoles. It took till about 9 am, but I got my Wii, along with Madden, Zelda, and Ultimate Alliance. (Got suckered into Target's Buy-3-games-get-a-$20-gift-card promotion.) If I don't post on here for the next week or so, you'll know why.

At the Future Shop here, there's a line up of over 200 people. The sign in the window says there's only 100 Wii's available...and there's still two hours until opening time.

Same experience here. Seems demand was just as high as the PS3 but people waited until the night before to line up. Ended up at the local Best Buy getting number 19 of 63. Got Madden and Zelda too, but I'm too tired to play now.

Same in Saskatoon. We drove by Future Shop at 11:00pm on Saturday and there was a virtual shantytown outside the doors. I tried a few places this morning, and no luck anywhere. Anyplace that carries games - Future Shop, Wal-Mart, Superstore, Rogers Video, EB - had people camping out overnight.

I picked up Super Monkey Ball and Excite Truck for whenever I actually get my hands on the system. Luckily, I work across the street from an EB, so I can check it thrice daily, but it still wouldn't surprise me if I didn't see a Wii in stores until after Christmas. I slightly overestimated the supply and grossly underestimated the demand.

I walked into Fred Meyer this evening and picked up mine along with Super Monkey Ball and Twilight Princess. It has not yet been hooked up.

We apparently had the only Fred Meyer in Oregon that still had units available.

I was unable to purchase a second nunchuk but I was able to get a second Wiimote.

I did not even try to get a PS3 on Friday.

Ok so in checking ebay, things have already slowed WAAAAAY down for the PS3. I looked and could only find two listing with any bids at all. Most had starting bids or buy it now prices over 2K and were seeing zero action. A couple had buy it now prices near 1,000 and had a few bids but one was for the 60 gig version and was only at 690 with one minute left and the other was a 20 gig at 520 with one minute left.

Not sure what time you checked eBay, but I'm going to guess you checked it at a bad time. I'm looking at auctions right now (Monday, 6:07p EST) and 60gb PS3s are going for $1300+ without any extra games or accessories.

What many people fail to realize, especially people reveling in the joy of others failing to resell their PS3s (and some of the resellers themselves, I guess), is that there are definite peak times for eBay. Anyone dumb enough to list an auction that will end at 6:00a EST on a Saturday morning won't get a lick of action on their auction. Meanwhile, the same/similar auction that is listed to end around, say, 9:00p EST on a weekday will do much better.

Seems like they are going for more now, but still it's nowhere close to what they were doing just two days ago. Anyone looking for 2K is still not getting any bids at all which is a big change.

Here's a funny story:

Sony PlayStations, 3 of them

While it's no secret that PlayStation 3 units have been selling for incredulous prices, snagging one for $900 probably seemed like quite the deal at the time; however, the poor sap failed to realize that he /she just committed almost one thousand dollars to purchasing three original PlayStation consoles. To make matters even worse, no games, controllers, or heartfelt sympathy was to be included, leaving the unsuspecting buyer in quite a bad predicament.

Oopsy.

Then again they have gone for as cheap as $9.99 (cgi.ebay.com).

So the story goes if you happen to be a person who purchased a PSP, you will be able to download and play Playstation 1 games on it!! Wow, pretty neat stuff huh? Oh, problem is you can only do this via your PS3.

Oh yeah and you can't actually play them on your PS3 itself. Just download and transfer to your PSP. Well, next year you can play them on your PS3. Probably. Maybe. We'll see.

I'm not sure i understand. Are you saying the PS3 is not backward compatible with PSone games? Or are the downloaded games the games that can't be played on the PS3?

Either way, I can't wait to see if Tobal No. 1 is one of the titles availble. That, and Final Fantasy VIII.

Well you can play PS1 games if you have the original disc. Not all of them, but some. You'll have to stick it in and see if it works, as was already talked about.

but they are now going to offer a service where you can purchase and download PS1 games just like you can download games on the Wii or 360. Difference is these downloaded versions can't actually be used on the PS3, only on the PSP after being transfered there.

First, the PSP has wireless capabilities on it's own so why the fuck do you make people buy a PS3 to use something that would GREATLY help you sell PSP's? I mean seriously if you could do that just with a PSP I would even consider buying one. Second, why allow them to download to a system they can't be used on? I know they will likely make them work on there next year, but still.

Just an absurd situation all around.
