Dunno if any of you fine, upstanding Wieners (or maybe even some of you not-so-fine, degenerate Wieners) might be able to help me with this, but what the heck.
I've got a reconditioned Dreamcast that I bought back in August. It's been sitting around, unused at my folks home up until recently. I recently bought a new-in-the-box copy of Virtua Tennis, and used copies of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, D-2, and Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare. With RE:CV, it plays the intro screen and intro movie, and then freezes up. Gives me a black screen, and nothing else. D-2 is playable, but after getting the key to the weapons cabinet for the second cabin, it craps out on me. Keeps on going to the screen for when you have no CD in the Dreamcast. And Alone in the Dark is totally unplayable. Doesn't load up anything. Virtua Tennis, however, plays just fine - no problems, other than the computer cheating.
It's possible that RE:CV and D-2, which I bought off of eBay, might be pirated copies (though they certainly don't look it). But that doesn't explain the copy of Alone in the Dark, which I bought from a GameSpot store in Ft. Lauderdale while I was visiting down there last weekend.
Has anyone else had a similar problem with his/her Dreamcast? Any suggestions about how I might fix this, other than just taking it to the store (since it's under a six-month warranty) and letting them fiddle with it?
THE CONSPIRACY FAILS - Randomly Selected Wiener of the Day, August 13, 2002 "Thanks RageRockrr! You're the coolest!" - Excalibur05, March 10, 2002. "Thank you for bringing back a DEEP 80s memory, Rage. THANK YOU." - DMC, June 6, 2002. "Big Props to RageRockrr: '+ Oh, and three simple words: Optimus. Fucking. Prime.' You're DAMN right!" - Bizzle Izzle, August 7, 2002. (former remainder of sig file deleted due to space and bandwidth concerns)
Nothing like that- but I had 2 Dreamcasts fry out totally because of MEMORY CARDS... something of an unreliable system. I would browse around the game stores (or comic stores, sometimes) for a used system... Yours might well be toast...
3 out of 5 Statisticians agree- Statistics are all bull$hit! "Pool-Boy"
I bought one two days after launch in 99 and played it for about a year. Then, I sort of rediscovered it towards the end of the DC's life and bought another one for my parents. The third one was in my bedroom on the TV in there for when I got bored burning CDs on my computer - puzzle fighter is the perfect game for about 15 minutes at a shot.
Actually, come to think of it, I gave one to my friend Robb for his couch, so technically I've owned 4 Dreamcasts.
Your analogy is similar to:
"They already have cars that you can drive, why not blenders?" "I can already write with my hands, why not my pancreas?" "They already have beef that I can eat, why not granite?"
The only problem I've had with it is that the laser itself needed calibration. Nothing too painful, just a minute or two.
Speaking of which, anyone know where I can get a controller repaired? Came with the DC, which I bought off of eBay. If it's cheaper to buy another one, I will, but it'd be nice to get this one working again. Only problem is that the plug pulled away from the cable.
Hey Keeper: I didn't realize the dash feature existed until AFTER I beat the game. Sheesh! I catch on fast. I have a soft spot for FF1, but mainly because of nostalgia. I like it for its simplicity, believe it or not.
