but a few things got me thinking. First What fan in this day and age that isn't 7 years old thinks they are actually fighting? They tell you flat out every week that it is Entertainment Why would they show this on the same channel that brings us Smackdown? and what did they show that you cant realy see by watching it?| Promote this thread! | | kentish

The one where they "revealed" some of the classic heel tactics, such as ripping up a kid's autograph book, or pushing an old lady at ringside? Two things I have never seen during my twenty-three years (damn) of watching wrestling.

The old lady who was the shill looked like that old gal that used to do the dentures commercials.
I was trying to ID the guys in there - Mike Modest was one. Harley Race was the booker, pretty obvious there. I looked it up later and another was Pitbull#2, since passed on. His partner, Gary Wolfe was in there too - but I didn't know either of them.
Yeah, it was lame, but interesting. The mike under the ring - I guess I never thought of that. I like hearing the calls.

Loved that show the first time I saw it. I remember Harley Race being involved, and I think one or both of the Pitbulls were there too. Can't remember who else might have shown up though.

There was a tag line that they kept repeating throughout the show. I'll have to paraphrase, but very much like: "Looks dangerous. But not once you know the secret. And now you know." They couldn't have said any clearer that, now that we've told you the secrets, you too can go out & do all this stuff, & it won't be dangerous at all. They specifically said more than once, " Not dangerous at all, once you know the secret."
They gave only the most cursory nod to things not going as planned, & really no acknowledgment of how much training & conditioning is involved in actually getting to a point where you can pull off some of this stuff. At one point I thought they were going to get into how seriously dangerous some of this stuff can still be, but they ended up with one of the guys saying something about being "bruised & banged up." That's it.
So kids (& stupid teenagers), we just told you how to do backbreakers, hurricaranas, piledrivers, chairshots & whatnot. Go out & go for it, now that you know the secret! | DJ FrostyFreeze

I DVR'd last night's show but I havent watched it yet.
I DID watch it the first time they showed it (prolly more like 8-9 years ago, on NBC?), and after it was over I immediately hopped on AOL to see if anyone in the chatrooms was talking about it. I found a room called "Wrestling Secrets Revealed" and chatted with the folks in there for a couple hours.
When I left the room, I had all kinds of spam in my inbox from NEWZBOARDZ* and whatnot. I started at some site that was stealing all of its news from TWNP, then to TWNP, then to 1wrestling (and later to PWInsider), then to Wrestleline, then to the CRZBoard (& ITVR), then to Tha Dub.
And *THAT, my friends, was my very first introduction to the IWC :)

It was dated ten years ago, too. Personally I'm SHOCKED that ANYBODY re-aired this. I mean, the thing was terrible enough and unwarranted during the wrestling boom when it first aired.
What on Earth would possess anyone to pay the money to show it agai--OH, the WGA strike. Man, talk about a network hurting for programming (but not really hurting...once you know the secret).
I wish I had a Grandma that was a stunt Granny. And still alive.

I remember that and with Mick Foley commenting with something like, "All the secrets have been revealed to me, all I have to do is slap my leg when I punch somebody".

Al calls Cole "Todd" which will always be funny, Mankind says that the Secrets of Professional Wrestling were revealed to him last night ("you stomp the mat!" Al: "NO!!") and then Socko says something about tie dye dancing (Dude Love?) and Snow says "Head." Yeah.

Gene O. says "shank of the evening," then brings out CHRIS MONDAY JERICHO, who is wearing a Goldberg shirt. Jericho runs down NBC's special, then says that he has the utmost respect for Bill Goldberg, alludes to a nonexistent football career, then says once again that he respects Goldberg. He leads a "Goldberg" chant and Okerlund and the commentators are duly confused. Let's go to the break!
- NITRO, 1998.11.02
And there it is. Anyone know where I can find his whole quote?

http://www.ddtdigest.com/updates/1998105m.htm only quotes Jericho as saying "Now that everyone knows the deepest and darkest secrets of professional wrestling." Another search leads me right back to the-w: cfgb's guest column review of that night. http://the-w.com/thread.php/id=25120 http://www.onlineonslaught.com/features/mnw-y4.shtml says that Raw won the ratings battle for 41 straight weeks starting with that night (the week before WCW aired a PPV DDP/Goldberg rematch that earned them the ratings victory).
