"The Cubs haven't taken any chances this spring with Mark Prior's aching Achilles tendon. Now they seem prepared to wait all of April before deciding when to give their ace right-hander his first start of the season."

I don't think that's a good sign. Are Cubs fans freaking out yet? With the rotation they have, I think they'll be ok, as long as they have a good spot starer, but a long term injury might not be good.

It wouldn't be a major league baseball season without an injury to Ken Griffey Jr. I guess this isn't serious, but what do you want to bet that he winds up hurting it even worse later on in the season because he didn't rehab it correctly? Why is he suddenly self-destructing? Is there something in the water in Cincinatti.

This is the only way they should be handling Prior. They rush him back and he's gone for the year easy, and not even for an achilles related injury. Him trying to pitch though this right now can adversely affect his throwing motion, and in turn fry his arm. If he misses the season, I can live with that, We have all of the key pieces except for Moises Alou and Alex Gonzalez tied up through next season. Alou is getting old, and Nomar (and his own achilles injury) would make a VERY suitable replacement for Gonzalez (and Alou's bat.)

In the context of baseball, the use of drugs hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, the use of alcohol hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, womanizing hurts whom? Maybe the wife of the player? In the context of baseball, felonies are crimes against society, not against baseball. In the context of baseball, gambling is the only crime against baseball.

Gambling, in the context of baseball, is a capital offense and Rose has richly earned-- hell, he agreed to-- his death sentence. Let him hang.

Aren't the Cubs pretty loaded as far as pitching prospects even after their awesome staff they already have? I say bring up another one of these kids while Prior rests, maybe you'll find yet another great pitcher, then when Maddux hangs it up there won't be any drop off when the next guy comes in.

SUDDENLY? How many games has he played vs how many has he missed in the past 3 or 4 years?

His time has passed, its time to hang up the spikes and start managing or coaching.

It's the awesome power of George Steinbrenner reaching into the NL and striking Griffey down for refusing to come to the Bronx!

Over his time with the Reds:

played - 389
missed - 269

And that's counting his first season, where he missed just 17 games and hit 40 homers.

What? He's 34. There is absolutely no reason for him to forfeit large sums of money. And it's not like when he's healthy he doesn't produce. And if he STAYS healthy for half a season, off he'll go, giving Cincinnati prospects in return.

And it's a strained right calf. These things happen all the time, but if it's Griffey, everyone (rightly) fires the red flag.

In addition, piss on you Ken Griffey Jr., I'm real tired of you getting hurt and f'ing up my fantasy teams. And to hell with me for continually acquiring you, I guess.

He may be "only" 34, but if you are a Reds Fan, wouldnt you rather free up his Bajillion dollars for some other talent? If not, then go ahead and pay a guy more than most of the rest of the team combined, to play half the games.

Recently hasnt all his injuries been to his legs? So, a strained calf can always leed to other injurries, hopefully he will rehab and have a productive year. Otherwise, they need to waive him and be done!

You, sir, are my hero.

I'm taking "120" in the How Many Games Will Griffey Miss This Season pool. And the Reds are gonna be stuck with him for the rest of his contract, because what team what's a high-priced addition to their DL? All we'll get out of him is frustration.

I guess you'd be surprised at what teams will do when they're contending and need to make a trade at the deadline. The Dodgers picked up Jeromy Burnitz last year for god's sake. Burnitz was paid $12 million last season. Now he isn't an injury risk like Griffey, but sometimes you gotta gamble. If Griffey hits for half a season he's gone, because someone is going to want to add a bat, and Griffey seems ready to leave.

I wasn't saying "34" as if 34 is young, but 34 isn't 38 either.

The Rangers haven't won four in this series yet. Until they do, they'd better not start looking ahead to the World Series. Fall asleep on the Yankees, and they will make you pay for it. (It's one of their more annoying qualities). Having said that......
