Batista Vs. Orton, in a streetfight for the title, has been announced for this week's show, according to The Wob. A title change is, apparently, all but etched in stone. An interesting development, and I'm honestly at a loss as to who else they could've slotted into into Orton's role. I guess it's making the best of a bad situation.

So then, the expected Buried Alive match at Survivor Series with The Undertaker may be for the title.

You can't see an unexpected swerve with regards to the winner, who knows what they will do !

I'm guessing they rethought the Buried Alive match considering everything that's happened because WWE.com announced that Randy is on Smackdown's Survivor Series team now.

I don't know if it ever was listed on the official Survivor Series site, but there's no buried alive match there anymore (hasn't been for a week or two).

My thinking is that they'll put off the Taker/Orton match til either Armageddon or the Rumble, where they can do a title change and build to Batista/Taker at Mania. If they market that match right it could be a huge drawing card.

I suppose with only 1 week to promote the 'Taker's return, they are pushing it for Survivor Series. Maybe he'll just appear to scare Randy and hold their match over as you say.

It's Sheffield, England next week for Raw and Smackdown, so I predict mentions of the world's best cuttlery and maybe Def Leppard as hometown boys !

FWIW, this Monday, there will be a rematch of Kurt Angle and Shelton Benjamin. If they give them 20 minutes, could be MOTY.

By the way, Storm's gimmick includes 1.) telling the audience to shut up, and 2.) occasionally making everyone stand for the Canadian national anthem. You know they don't know what to do with a wrestler when he's making fans stand for a national anthem. It's like waving a white flag and saying, "This guy has no personality -- we give up."

Apparently not... (wrestlingobserver.com)

I'm not even aware of WWE promoting the Buried Alive match, so scrapping it to let Orton fill in for Eddie on Team Smackdown and fill in for Batista as champion makes sense. I'm sure the tastelessness of booking a Buried Alive match two weeks after Eddie's death also factored into the decision.

They HAVE promoted Orton vs. Taker locally (as in the Detroit area), although I can't recall if they specifically said "Buried Alive match."

Regardless, those ads are still promoting Eddie vs. Batista, so I guess it goes without saying it doesn't mean anything.

Agreed with the above, UT will probably just BONG the lights off causing Orton to get pinned during the Survivor Series match.

JBL would make a better choice. He's a better heel & a better talker than Orton. I know he just had a looong reign on top, but if it's only a fill-in role, JBL isn't a bad choice.

If they wanted to make it a 3-way, Benoit or Rey wouldn't be a bad choice, esp. in the wake of Eddie's death. Do an injury angle to take out Batista so he wouldn't have to job. Yeah, Rey is small, but he's the perfect face, and it would always be in doubt whether he could keep the belt, which would make for good feuds.

Batista's been a pretty good champ, so it'll be a shame to see him take his 1st pinfall loss in a situation like this, on free TV to boot, which is why they should go w/ a 3-way. Orton injures Batista, and Rey/Benoit beat Orton for the belt, setting up Orton/Batista when Batista gets back.

I think JBL and Benoit would both be good fill-in choices, for very different reasons. Benoit would be ideal, even, but if he still hasn't renewed his contract (which he may have, for all I know), then they can't realistically put the belt on him. JBL is a very serviceable choice to transition the belt to whoever, but with all due respect to a good performer, I could live without ever seeing him holding the belt again.

I'm all for Rey Mysterio as world champion, but I don't think this is the situation for him to get the belt. He needs to go against a heel champion in a night built around his lifelong dream and impossible mission.

But I've always had an inkling that Batista vs. Orton was the intended title program on the Smackdown side. If that's the case, then shooting the angle to steal the belt from Dave now, so he can return and chase him, is the right move. Maybe when he gets the belt again, Randy will instantly reacquire everything he had the night after SummerSlam 2004 and subsequently lost over the next year.

If Orton is replacing Batista on the Smackdown team, does that mean Matt Hardy replaces Eddie?

Another possible route they could take is have Orton win the title, then face Piper for the belt at Survivor Series. Yeah, the match would be ridiculous, but they could spin a nice little 'Piper wants his first ever world title' storyline and have Orton beat him to add another legend to his tally. As for Batista's replacement on the Smackdown team, why not add Undertaker?

The other alternative is to have Batista actually beat Orton on Smackdown, and then have Edge run in, lay Batista out with a chair and invoke his money in the bank shot to win the World title right then and there. It would add some extra hatred to the intrabrand rivalry.

Considering how the roster is not as deep as it was even a few weeks ago, doesn't Benoit's negotiating position strengthen dramatically (if he hasn't signed a contract yet)? If he leaves, they might need a new lottery in order to keep SD viable.

If Benoit leaves, I think you could make a good case that keeping split rosters at all would no longer be viable. It's beginning to seem watered-down as it is.

How is Survivor Series gonna work out if all of the SD! top guys are gonna be in the 5 on 5 match? They gonna let Raw carry most of the undercard? Or have guys work more than one match??

It really makes no difference, since just about every combined brand PPV for the last 2 years has been RAW centric.

In light of recent events, WWE cannot afford to lose a potential main eventer in Chris Benoit. That is unless they plan on keeping Undertaker in the main events for the next 5-10 years without ever having him put anyone over.

It is odd how he disappeared from that whole angle isn't it. I guess they feel with Edge injured and out no one cares if Matt is in it or not.

With the injury angle to Batista on RAW, I'm thinking what they'll do at Survivor Series is say that Batista can't wrestle. RAW will think they have a 5 on 4 advantage until Batista comes out to announce his replacement and we hear....."OOOOOO....Chavooo". Chavo replaces Batista on the team and ends up being the sole survivor and dedicating the win to Eddie. Batista can even get involved in the match at some point doing a few spots like the spinebuster or something to help the team win.

Ugh, I have a feeling Pacman/Killings and Styles/Tomko is going to screw up the Christian Coalition. I love Styles as Christian's lackey right now, it's the most character he's ever had and it took some work to get Styles to be a heel.
