Maybe I missed this, but they are still running PPVs together, right? Is it possible that they will have tournaments and stuff to see if guys from one show can go for the belts from the other show? I think this might be a good way to make the belts a little more important again. Unless they decide to bring back some of the WCW belts for each show, like the U.S. Title or something.

The WCW belts were unified into Fed belts. The only one that wasn't was the "Undisputed" Championship which is still relying on having him hold both belts simultaneously.
I think the idea of PPV's being a kind of open challenge would work.

There is one little detail that a lot of folks have missed.

While Smackdown! wound up with Tajiri, the current WCW Cruiserweight champ, RAW got X Pac, the current holder of the semi-dormant Lt. Heavyweight belt.

That could mean cruiserweights on both shows. That would constitute the big push that JR was talking about. And it would shore up the weakened rosters with exciting matches for both programs.

Cross your fingers.

I think all the other belts are unified, except maybe the US title, which might still be on Kanyon. Anyone know for sure?

X-Pac isn't the champ anymore. They dropped that belt while he was out injured. The titles were never unified, but the renamed the Cruiser title the WWF Cruiserweight belt. I guess they like the sound of cruiserweights better than light heavyweight.

Kanyon lost the US title, and it was traded around a few times after that. Edge was the US champ going into the Survivor Series, and he unifed it with Test's IC title.

edit: I think the US title lineage went something like this after the WCW purchase-

Booket T gives the title to Kanyon (one of the few right things they did during the Invasion)

Kanyon loses it to Tajiri?

Tajiri to Rhyno

Rhyno to Angle

Angle to Edge

Edge unifies it with the IC belt.

You're right. I totally blanked on the US title being unified.

But, the WWF never officially killed the Lt. Heavyweight title, in fact, it was defended by X Pac at house shows as recently as a couple or three weeks ago. So they could bring it back to TV as part of a storyline where both feds are trying to build up the little guy's matches.

There's a lot of potential for this type of storyline with the split now. I just hope they don't bypass them in favor of short-term crap.

In X-Pac's recent WWF.com interview, he said the WWF axed the Light Heavyweight belt. The WCW Cruiser belt has been named WWF Cruiserweight title, as was mentioned.
The belt is dead. Let it go.

That's fine, because I always liked the Cruiserweight Title better!

True, he did say that, but a few weeks later, he was announced as defending the title at house shows. I'm just holding a glimmer of hope that both shows might wind up with a good cruiser division. You never know what direction the writers may take--heck, they probably don't know themselves.

And I agree, 'cruiserweight' sounds better.

I just wanted to point out that wwfsuperstars.com still lists the Light Heavyweight title, and shows X-Pac as the champion, and does not list the Cruiserweight belt. It could very well be that they simply haven't removed the LH and added the CW title, but all the other belts have been updated, so I think there's still a chance, albeit a small one that the LH title could come back into play.

From the observer:

Stop the presses. X-Pac is no longer officially the WWF Light Heavyweight Champion. They've dropped that belt completely.

Good thing. I don't think they need to of these belts.

the light heavy belt is GONE DADDY GONE. please just let it go. they better not bring back any of those wcw titles - the fed has seven fucking belts already!

to the best of my knowledge, all of the ppvs for the forseeable future will be interpromotional but actual interpromotional matches will be limited. guys from raw will fight guys from raw and guys from smackdown will fight guys from smackdown.

i'm betting there won't be any full blown tournaments for title contendership - just things like four corners matches or a straight up match between two top guys in a brand. how the ppv matches will be made in the storyline is anybody's guess (mine is flair and vince run to linda or eventually a third party like foley comes in to be the arbitrator).

king of the ring will be very interesting this year -- you'll have the raw bracket and the sd bracket. personally, i would love for them to hold off on the first interpromotional match until the KOR finals.

KOR is the ppv after backlash, right?

once the brands have established themselves, they'll move to sixteen ppvs a year. how that will work is anybody's guess right now.

It's just you against the group mind.

I hinted at this earlier. In fact I'd love to see the reaction to it on something like PBS or another high-brow network.
