Punk and Striker got a whole lotta time to have a good match, the triple threat was decent, and Monty-excuse me, Marquise-came off like a star in the making. It just makes shows like last week seem even more frustrating when they manage to put on something pretty good.
To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

It's the same type of deal they made Paul Birchall do before he became a pirate and they let him start doing his flipping uranage. The Pounce is something unique and cool to see. Anyone can do the Fujiwara. It's lame.
Styles and Tazz were pretty insufferable in claiming they'd never seen or heard of Marquis Cor Von before. WWE is back to 1980's pretending nothing else exists in wrestling besides WWE. Especially fruitless when Marquis is now a lightning rod for a TNA chant whenever he appears.
There's few things as disheartening as watching someone get depushed. And I mean shoved right back down the ladder and kicked in the head as they descend. One of the great things about WWE that they do deserve credit for is that unlike the old WCW, they do let deserving people at the top of the company. We saw it with Jericho, Benoit, Eddie, Rey (until he got the damn belt), and last year RVD. (But not Christian for some stupid reason.) There's nothing better than seeing a guy who deserves it for years of great performances and service be given the support of the company and pushed to the top. The flip side of that is when the company decides their time is up and they get pushed off the mountaintop. It was hard to see it with all the men listed above, but it's even more painful for me to see it happen with RVD. A lot of that is his own fault of course with getting arrested and all, but still, RVD's diminishment coincides with ECW no longer being ECW. ECW is now whatever Vince McMahon thinks ECW should be (and that's big muscle guys clotheslining each other.) It was just six months ago when RVD and Edge were main eventing pay per views and now Test and Lashley are the top dogs of ECW. It just sickens me.

"marquis" is not going to fare well with the scripted promos in the E. he's sort of a quick-witted guy, and that style will hold him back. i think the whole thing was poorly executed. his music was atrocious, his new name (as if he needs one in the first place) is just dumb. "marquis cor von"... oy vey. and he shouldn't be on ecw. i think we all agree the best move would have been giving him the khali spot on raw and just letting him light cena up last week. but maybe i'm wrong and he'll be the next CM punk.
on second thought, that probably wouldn't be a great thing for his career at this point.

Good show. Kelly Kelly was shockingly not wretched on the mic. She also seemed disturbingly tall or maybe Matt Striker is just short. I dunno.
Re the name change, I think the idea is that the E doesn't want guys using their real names anymore because you can't trademark that. They don't want guys later going somewhere and being promoted under the name they were know by in the E (i.e. "Kurt Angle, the best wrestler in the world, IS TNA" etc.) | RYDER FAKIN

I love how he pronounced it, actually. I just don't think that the "ALPHA MALE" monicker sounds good with it.
Oh, and what's with having a jobber match on ECW? Come on...you'd think that with so many other ECW Originals that aren't being used, they could have employed someone else to him over, right? Stevie Richards?
I have to wait until Saturday to watch this episode (it sucks to be in Canada, but oh well) but this actually looks like a decent episode of ECW.

They probably wanted the first Pounce taken by somebody who (it seems to me) took a ton in TNA.
I like that he's doing the Pounce, as it can be a VERY over setup move for a finisher, and perhaps end up as a finisher in its own right. I just wish the primary finisher was the Alpha Bomb, not Generic Armbar #27.
EDIT: Just watched the clip on WWE.com, and it made me laugh how he almost bowled over the ref trying to Pounce.

Nah, it's probably that WWE can't tradermark Monty Brown's name either, since it's his real name, and so he's got a new name they can own forever.
I looked around on US Trademark Search and didn't find anything - live or dead on Alpha Male. Maybe Monty owned it as part of his deal with TNA? (I've never used that site before, so I could just be missing something.

Maybe they didn't fly Steven out? The jobber worked on Monday too, so he was already there. Maybe they just liked the idea of having their new ex-TNA guy debut against a newly-ex TNA guy.

Punk doesn't even call out Holly? Weird, but good match. Striker's evolutionary line cracked me up.
Monty is still Monty to me, boring in the ring and fun on the mic; especially his mouthed "what?" that cracked the crowd up. That music HAS to go.

Wasn't a big fan of his in TNA, but curious to see what WWE does with him. Not only that, but seeing him in an all-TNA match w/ Cassidy Riley was kind of interesting.
I noticed that RVD was on the list of Rumble entrants, so I'm guessing it's Lashley/Test at the Rumble.
Also kind of curious why Punk didn't seem to give Kelly the time of day, knowing she has a thing for him, and helped him win the match. It's as if they both celebrated the win, but as far away from each other as possible.
