KMOL-TV, the local NBC affiliate in San Antonio, Texas, is reporting that Debra Williams, the wife of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (Steve Williams) called police early Saturday morning and claimed that Austin had beaten her.
According to a police report obtained by KMOL-TV (Channel 4), Austin left the scene, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Corvette, before police could speak to him. The San Antonio Police Department contacted Austin via his cellular phone and asked him to return to the scene. Austin refused to do so.
Debra reportedly suffered bruises around her eyes and on her shoulder blade. She told police that Austin had beaten her before, but that she had not contacted the police previously due to Austin's celebrity status.
The call was placed at 4 AM Saturday morning. Ms. Williams declined to press charges against her husband.
Eloy Espinoza, the assignment editor for KMOL-TV, confirmed that his station ran the story last night during their 10 PM newscast. Espinoza told PWTorch.com that his station has been unable to reach either Debra or Austin for comment.
EDIT: Messed up some stuff.

So now Steve is a wife beating, job quittin', beer drinking fugitive. Steve has some issues right now. That is exactly what JR said last night. He hinted that something is really wrong with Steve and maybe this is proof. I didn't believe it either until the Torch actually called KMOL to make sure it was true. This is sad. I feel sorry for Debra in all of this, but no pity for Austin. Beating a woman is completely wrong.
(edited by dskillz on 16.6.02 0859) January 4th 1999 - The day WCW injected itself with 10 gallons of Liquid Anthrax...AKA...The day Hogan "Defeated" Nash to win the WCW title in front of 40,000.
Now everyone (1wrestling, Torch) BESIDES Meltzer has it up, claiming to have verified it themselves. This would also seem to be big enough to make the mainstream media. What the fuck exactly is going on here??
Edit: Hey, you're right, it IS back on the Observer. Huh. I wonder what made Meltzer take it down then. And, I wonder why it hasn't made any non-wrestling websites. Not that I would mind if the story never got "picked up" beyond the wrestling world, honestly, but you would think it probably would.
gonna build a giant drill and bore straight into hell releasing ancient demons from their sleep-forever spell so they can walk upon the earth and get recituated and run the diet pill pyramid that MC Pee Pants has created
Well, I haven't been able to find it ANYWHERE (besides 1wrestling of course). Not even on KMOL-TV's own website, and they are the ones who supposedly reported this. Surely 1wrestling would be able to get the verification right, wouldn't they?
If that's the case, I can't believe no one, even on the local level, thinks it's newsworthy enough to post. Afterall, it's not like the local newspaper and local TV sites don't have fluff pieces posted (you can read all about Britney Spears' tour through Texas, and important things like that). If nothing else, I'm surprise no one is using this opportunity to take a pot shot at wrestling in general.
has anyone thought of calling them and claiming to be a webmaster that wants to use the info, but wants to check fact?

This is bad. This is really, really bad
It's funny. I never have any problems believe all the stuff about Jake Roberts and Scott Hall and people like that. But why Austin? Why does my favourite wrestler ever have to be a wife beating drunkard? I can't accept it :(
Yo, not that this means anything at all, and not that this story isn't weird enough already, but read the post on Meltzer's site...first it says police found Debra with a welt under her left eye, then two paragraphs later, it says police found her with a welt under her right eye.
and the meltz's news posting had an assload of typos in it last night (proof that he don't proof read).
And odds are, this'll be on ET on monday night. He is a celebrity after all. They did cover the play the former wrassler formerly known as Chyan was supposed to be in. If'n it's the real deal (which it hopefully ain't), it'll be on ET... blech.

The newsroom number is 210-223-4742 if any locals want to call. Eloy Espinoza is actually the assignments editor there ... but to be honest this is something that wouldn't be "assigned," it'd just be covering I think. Added to the right v. left eye, and the lack of coverage elsewhere, I'm skeptical. Not to say it's wrong, but I'm reserving judgment.
It's pretty weird seeing Sting on WCW Prime, period. By the time I got into WCW in '97, not only was Sting in the middle of his "Crow" era and not wrestling, but Prime was full of jobbers from top to bottom. Former world champions?
