Joe spends the better part of an hour with some has-been. Hear all the stories you've heard for six years as you've never heard them before! Marvel at the guest's inability to complete a sentence! Wonder if he's really running out of breath during the longer passages because he's so old and out of shape! Ask yourself if anyone ever archived "The Edge" for purposes of comparison!

Of course, *I* ain't listenin' - I'm going to sleep. Maybe tomorrow! (If YOU listen, feedback would be welcome - probably more for Joe & Cubs than for me, but I you won't hear me complain - except during the podcast!)

Some notes...

Whats up with your Mortimer Plumtree fascination? Outside of the fact that he was supposed to bring the role of a Manager back to prominence, burying the Tits and Ass eye candy as seconds and bringing back the good old days of tennis rackets and cell phones!! Might have worked better if the promotion was not named T-N-A!

(Or if Russos paranoia wouldnt have gotten the best of everyone.)

I think Cheeks had a heart attack, or maybe a diabetic stroke, but I cant find any documentation to confirm.

CRZ: (Usenet was great)...before the gene pool was diluted.

Thats debatable. Elitist behavior can only take one so far, which was the biggest problem back in those days. Marks (or smarks) were needed to make the next stage of online wrestling commentary necessary, relevant and fun, to a certain degree. Sure you got some bad apples, but Kunze's workrate fetish, burying everyone, while Scherer paraded around with no one really to keep him in check had to evolve.

Around mid-98 is when the influx of the new generation (everyone with an IP address) took flight and I think that was for the best - if you like plenty of trainwrecks mixed in with your Sunday Drive in the Country style commentary. Which I do. Which begat the IWC 100, a story for another day

Hey, I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned that many re-cappers got involved for the alleged fame (any idiot can do it), but hey, let's face it - not many have stood the test of time. NOT getting feedback is worse than flame mail, which led to a whole bunch giving up. Hey, that's all for the better, in my opinion.

Your imitation (complete with voice) of the general mindset of the IWC was dead on perfect. Lightning Kid! SMARK SMARK SMARK.

Whenever you bring up doing the recaps while working the graveyard shift always reminds me: sumbitch he WAS the only paid re-capper that whole time. No wonder you (and Kim) held Wrestleline up for dough!

Re: The End of CRZ Re-capping - like their lives depended on it. That * was * almost like a national tragedy! Dont make light of it. ITS TOO SOON ;-)

The whole ECW rap was on target. Yes, its the crowd, not the wrestling, stupid. At least thats what the ECW smarks will tell ya. And yes, they do buy tix to shit on the product. Cause THEY are the Whole Fucking Show. You bet. Vince was right.

Re: ROH - who knew you were a Nigel mark? Hes great. Most of those guys are, if you like a good wrestling match. Especially Danielson. I agree on the crowds, which are a major turn off (as in I turn off the sound), but a necessary evil - they are keeping Sapolsky in business, which aint a bad thing.

I havent had a chance to see ROH live yet, either; it's a nice perk to have the option of turning off the sound on the DVD, which works good for me, until people claim that the crowd is what made that bullshit spot-fest MOTY. Whatever. I liked three matches on that disc better, but who am I to argue with the people who know.

I may change that opinion once I attend a show, but probably not. They are nowhere close to the bullshit that went on in the ECW Arena, but possibly as influential, which isn't a good thing, in my opinion

Whats really a bummer is the TNA crowd (or WWE crowds) trying to do the same thing. It looks like chanting This is Awesome for no good reason at all, and dueling Lets Go (X) howls are here to stay, at least until the next wave of bleacher bums comes along.

Agreed on MMA. But no sense, for me anyway, in going overboard on the flash in the pan, just a fad mindset until they step on their dicks. The main difference is that no one (mainstream media / Congress) gives a shit about wrestling, but will go crazy when the MMA stars (or nobodies) start dying and that Dana White doesnt have the backbone to stand up to the Government when, not if, it happens. Not under those terms anyway. Why anyone would use Vince McMahon as their template for behavior is beyond me.

Re: Foley / Flair and the hardcore possibilities in Massachusetts. Just outside of Boston is Revere - something brutally hardcore happened there once. So, I think Foley and Flair will get away with their pretend fighting.

I agree they have backed themselves into a corner with this Edge / Cena thing. DQ wins the belt is a stupid stipulation where no one wins. Id prefer that they keep the belt on Edge until WM and build up a chase, but Edges opponents are few and far betweenI have a KILLER idea for Hardy returning, but I hate fantasy booking and its not something they would do anyway, so its moot.

Also, while you were right about ECW, you are DEAD WRONG about ANYTHING you say about Paul E! Hes a genius, no two ways about it.

I think thats probably just sour grapes because you wanted to use your EXXXTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMMMME voice. Mark!

Good stuff! But by far the best segment was around 31:20 ;-).

Well, I knew YOU'D waste an hour on it, so I didn't want to disappoint you without getting in the name drop. ;-)

I went and checked - ROH at the St. Paul armory is actually a week from TONIGHT. Main event is Danielson vs. McGuinness for the strap, 2 out of 3 falls. I really should buy my ticket already.

I mistakenly said I attended APW shows - I never attended APW shows. It was always Pro Wrestling IRON (and usually, to see ummmm was it Misawa dogging it for the hot crowd of 250? Probably) although really, weren't they basically the same promotion?

I also have a KILLER "fan" voice which I have borrowed from my wife and represents more than a few posters and/or former posters to this and other boards. I meant to debut it during the call last night, but I have high hopes I'll be invited back again when they can't line up anybody else and I don't mind having held something back in the event that that happens.

Here's the article on Cheex, which I totally missed in February: - you were right about the stroke; he got it after losing 250 pounds (from 600!) from a gastric bypass - thanks for that tip

I suppose I should have plugged MY Petrie archive at - oh well

Misawa had an uninspired match once or twice in PWI, and I think Hashimoto showed up over there as well. If I remember right, he didn't wrestle, and only cut a promo about Americans being lazy and stupid, or something along those lines.

Note: I never attended a PWI show.

For whatever it's worth (probably a few bucks, I guess) ROH is having a 25% off tickets sale, which includes the St. Paul show.

And CRZ is much too modest - this was a great show. Thanks to everyone that's listened.

Things to talk about in part 2:

CRZ: the wrestleline years. As someone who lived through it too, I'd love to hear about Z's time there, including the whacky discussion about "payment."

A discussion of famous/memorable recap bits. The two that still stand out for me: KONNAN'S MUSIC VIDEO and the "Fuck You Kevin Nash" rant after Jericho lost the TV title.

And no mention of KJP, the recapper in-between CRZ runs on the internet?

that did bring back a bunch of memories of the early net, in the wild years before the web. I remember being on RSPW in like 90 or 91, with such notable names as CRZ, Scherer, Ollie and Herb.

Really interesting listen, and I found myself agreeing with most of your points. Actually I think the only thing I disagreed with was CM Punk, who I still think is better than some lately are giving him credit's just that most of his fans get SO obnoxious about it that you do want to hate him deep down. I think given the time to adapt to the WWE style and actually establish a character, you might change your mind a little. I'm not saying he's the future of sports-entertainment, but I am saying that given the chance he's a very solid and entertaining worker.

Oh, and I almost yelled "right on" out loud when you started talking about Nigel McGuinness. Like you said, that guy is SO money, especially as a heel. Although being a pathetic mark for the guy, I'm a little biased.

So THIS is the season that started the "To Be Continued..." trend that drove me nuts for YEARS. Oh, how I hated that. Nevertheless, I'm all over this. :)
