The player's union has decertified, paving the way for individuals players to file an antitrust lawsuit with the NFL.
The union decertified in 1987 after the strike failed, and the player's victories in court lead to free agency. I don't know if we're looking at a strike or a lockout or somehow players continuing to play until this gets resolved.
I've gotten the impression that if they had just kept negotiating, there was a possibility of it being resolved without really affecting anything, but also a possibility of a lockout that could have resulted in actual missed games.
Instead, we have the decertification & anti-trust lawsuit, which pretty much guarantees that a) the next 2-3 months will be in major flux, but that b) there almost certainly will be a full 16 game schedule that takes place on time.
I'm fine with the latter, so I'm not angry about this.

You know who really gets screwed in the NFL lockout? It's not the players, or the owners, or even the fans. It's the people who work at the stadium for far less money. The guys responsible for keeping the Gatorade cooler full, handing players a towel, keeping the grounds maintained and the tickets handed out, maintaining security, and operating the scoreboard. I think they should start an emergency fund for THOSE people instead of the fringe NFL players making "only" $300K a year.
Hey, guys: If you're making $300K a year, DON'T BUY A $700,000 MANSION, YOU IDIOTS!

Isn't that like saying "If you're making $60K a year, DON'T BUY A $140,000 MANSION, YOU IDIOTS!"?

The bartenders, restaurant owners that count on the extra revenue from gameday Sundays, Vegas sportsbooks that make a chunk of their revenue through gambling on the NFL, etc. etc. etc.
People may not realize it now, but losing the NFL is going to have a very real effect on our economy. Just wait and see.
