Noticed this in CRZ's weekly DVD thread and was reminded when they mentioned it on The View today.

Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series

Is this set worth the price? I'd love to hear from anyone who's watched the series. It appears to be nothing more than an IMAX type of feature, no?

It was a great series and was beautiful to watch. Some of the footage of the animals was the first of it's kind, such as a Snow Leopard making a kill, a lot of the undersea scenes, and footage inside caves. I've heard some people say they would have preferred having Richard Attenborough narrate rather than Sigourney Weaver, but it wasn't distracting to me (the DVD set has Attenborough). I think it's a good buy if A. you love nature shows or B. you want something that you can watch with kids that won't make you tear your hair out.

For anyone wondering, like I was, the Blu-ray version (in 1080p) is only $13 more.

I saw a commercial for it and it looks like a must buy in either HD format.

The HD broadcasts on Discovery HD are truly breathtaking. I don't have a HD DVD player, so I would not buy it because it would not be nearly as impressive even in DVD format.

Dean! Have you been shooting dope into your scrotum? You can tell me! I'm hip!

I dunno, I felt like he just came up a little short in that movie and didn't quite pull it off. He was, however, perfect in "The Good Shepherd". Did that film miss a certain deadline, cuz it can't not be nominated.
