Looking like it was on purpose. Less than a mile from where I work though we didn't hear anything when it happened.

That's his website and final note on why. What a cry baby. Not being able to find a job as an engineer in Austin means you pretty much suck.

I'm glad that's what you took from that.

I took from it that nothing is his fault. Not being able to find work, getting caught trying to cheat on taxes, blah blah blah.

Whiny baby. That's what I got from it.

Fine, but he makes a lot of good points and it's sad people feel they have to do this when they know it's not gonna change anything. He even admits he know. So it makes you wonder what the purpose is.

I spent some time reading this - I had a friend who killed himself last year.

He sounds like a guy who just let things build. A friend of mine who battles depression says you have to avoid letting things "lean on you".

But, he starts by trying one of those "pay no taxes" schemes.
(like this crap: http://sovereignsociety.com/investment-services/the-sovereign-individual/ )

and when he gets caught, it's someone else's fault.

Then he gets laid off in California when the job market sinks, and blames the fed for shutting down bases (when earlier, he was worried about them spending his money)

Then he doesn't file, even though he tapped his IRA. Doesn't EVERYONE know that is income?

and it's someone else fault.

Then he gets into a bad job market - I wonder if he had trouble finding work because he was wacky?

But he's got a nice house (I google mapped it), and a plane (they also aren't cheap). So, burn it down and crash the plane. Oddly, that CPA Ross he references didn't have an office in the building. I was sure that was going to be true.

I have a cousin of my wife's who's similarly (without the ending) wacky. There's no talking to them, their minds are made up. He would have had twenty entries in the conspiracy theory question in One Question.

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

That the universe was formed by a fortuitous concourse of atoms, I will no more believe than that the accidental jumbling of the alphabet would fall into a most ingenious treatise of philosophy - Swift

Gee, can't imagine why anyone in those circumstances would want to take his life (and possibly others') in such a violent way given your glowing recommendation of his situation and character. Way to be a sensitive human being.

How poor are you when you own a plane? I make ok money and I don't own a plane. Also, if you owned a plane couldn't you commute to other jobs like in California or Iowa?

Normally I say don't speak ill of the dead.

I'm going to make an exception, here.

This guy was a nutjob. I read his letter on The Smoking Gun's website. He never takes any of the blame for his actions. He seems disconnected from reality and I'm not at all surprised that he fell for the "You don't need to pay taxes" bullshit.

Hey, you have to pay taxes. Anyone telling you otherwise is wrong. If you continue to believe these people, they will gladly lead you down the road to ruin.

I hope this clearly demonstrates to people the problems with the folks who run these scams, and why they should not be trusted. I am sorry for the families of those affected by this narcissist.

I was briefly freaked out when I heard about this because I have two close friends that live in Austin and work for the IRS. Thankfully, I found out they work in the South Austin IRS office and it was the North Austin office that was hit.

A sensitive human being to a man who showed no care for anyone else's life?

My wife works just down the road from me. I have friends that work just on the other side of the street from where he crashed.

He gets what he earned. Nothing.

I don't see how anyone can see this as anything but the extreme end result of a man suffering from some kind of untreated mental illness.

For those not aware, prior to crashing the plane, the guy also burned his house down.

His wife and stepdaughter were in the house and either escaped or had to be rescued.

Just in case you needed some perspective.

Well, it's not like people didn't consider this sort of thing in light of 9/11. I guess the rationale was that a twin-prop couldn't take out a skyscraper?

So now do we spend the money to secure 20 times as many airports as the TSA covers today? The guy may have been a whack job, but it sure appears that the intent was to create terror.

I assume the guy was so wacky he thought he'd save his family the trouble of living through the aftermath he was about to cause. Either that or he's just an asshole.
