Do they have a new broadcast director for sox games?
Lately during the Red sox games they have been doing quick cuts to these 15 second promos for other NESN programming. Now i don't have a problem with the promos its more of the placement. Anytime there is even a small break in the action they pop up with no warning, often interupting what otherwise might be an interesting comversation between Jerry and Sean.
At one point they even cut out in the middle of Veriteks arguement with the ump, leaving me to wonder if Tek had been tossed during that promo and the 2 minute commercial break that immediately followed.
It really just seems like some really sloppy work on the part of the NESN crew. Really gives me the feeling that i'm missing out on something.
On the reason for the cut-aways during Friday night games: Technically, those aren't NESN games, they are UPN 38 or CBS 4 games, with NESN broadcasting them in the outer markets. Due to this, they cut away everytime there is an ad drop in/sponsor placement during an inning for the 15 seconds spot/music playing. Due to it not being a NESN game, that is also why McDonough talks about the stats on the screen when they aren't shown on the NESN feed. Now, onto a rant. First, McDonough. Could he actually call a Red Sox game for the first time in about 6 years without going off on a 3 inning plus tangent about something that has absolutely nothing to do with the game? I don't fucking care about Convention coverage, and I really and truly could find a way to survive without having 4 inning devoted to whether Judge Judy stole cookies. When he calls national games, he does a good job. For some reason, when he calls Red Sox games, he takes some warped view that the fans don't really want to watch the game. Now, onto my next and greatest aggrevation: I don't ever want to hear some 90 year old woman from Swampscott who came to the game get interviewed ever again. Same goes for the Little League team that traveled 6 whole miles in order to watch the game. Fine, the people are at the game. But, for the love of God, why do I have to be subjected to hearing them interviewed when I'm trying to watch the game? I don't care if he's been dead for a little over two year, dig up Ned Martin and have him do play by play. He'd still be 50 times better than Orsillo or McDonough at this point. And, why doesn't NESN show out of town highlights during games any more. The Braves do (of course, now that the Braves are doing well, they are barely on TBS anymore).
from ESPN.com... TUCSON, Ariz. -- Angry and disgusted with the latest comments from former slugger Frank Thomas, Chicago White Sox general manager Kenny Williams fired back Sunday, calling the two-time MVP "an idiot.
