For the second time now, Benoit has been introduced as being from Atlanta Georgia...at WMXX it was only as LIVING in Atlanta but last night he was FROM Atlanta Georgia...what the fuck is going on??

You can't tell me that the last guy to come out of the Hart dungeon in Calgary and who is about to headline...fingers crossed...a major PPV in his HOMETOWN of Edmonton Alberta Canada has suddenly decided to forsake his heritage?? Someone please tell me what the fuck is happening...is this just a dig...maybe Bret comes out at Backlash to say WTF and give him some shit...what...WHAT?!?!

Cheers,

Erin...who is currently losing sleep at night over this atrocity...

Who said it was Benoit's idea to change where he was billed as being from?

Who said it wasn't?? I want to know WHO HAS decided to change where he was from. He's going along with it and therefore...one would hope, as the new champion...had some say in what is now taking place. If there are details to the contrary then I would LOVE to hear them...please!!!

Cheers,

Erin

Alot of the time they don't list "from" or more so seem to use that as an interim term for "residing in".

I mean Flair's from Minnesota. It's possible Benoit's living in Atlanta now and I'm sure for Backlash they'll announce him from Edmenton.

Does anyone recall this happening before...where a guy is announced as being from one place for almost his entire career and then all of the sudden it changes?? I personally have not recalled it ever happening before and neither had any of my fellow wrestling fans that I was watching WMXX with. I mean if a wrestler has ALWAYS been announced as being from a town other then where he/she was born then I see no big deal but...Benoit has been announced as being from Alberta for close to 20 years...why change that now even if he IS living in Atlanta???

Cheers,

Erin

Canadians KNOW that Benoit is Canadian. He will be cheered like crazy there no matter what, especially in his hometown of Edmonton. Maybe WWE is just trying to get one more place where Benoit will be over like crazy, by letting everyone know that he now lives in Atlanta. I bet the next time WWE is in Atlanta, Benoit has a big match, and the crowd goes wild. Not that they wouldn't have before, but now there will be some extra reason and assurance that they will.

Still seems weird to me though, no matter how anyone rationalizes it out.

It's not like Edmonton is suddenly going to forget that Chris Benoit is a homer or that Chris Benoit isn't Canadian anymore.

He lives in Atlanta. I'm sure it's just a subtle way to either be accurate or endear him more to the majority of the US audience.

Maybe he got his dual citizenship?

I mean, did anyone complain that he was shitting on Quebec by saying he was from Edmonton? He switched that when he moved to Edmonton.

To me, this is about as big of an issue as WrestleMania 21 using digits instead of Roman Numerals.

I find the timing very curious and I do happen to find it a bit more important then Roman Numerals in the WM titles due to his being the WWE champ. Also, I'd be interested to know if Benoit was EVER announced as being from Quebec...if that is where he was born...'cus if not then that suggestion has no real merit in this discussion...but if so then you have a valid point

Cheers,

Erin

Did you get this furious at the Dudleys when they were announced at 'Mania as being from New York instead of Dudleyville?

Yeah i noticed the town change, on both Duds and Benoit. But to me nothing, and i mean nothing is as confusing as trying to figure out where the Undertaker is from. I mean first he's from parts unknown, a great breeding ground of mysterious wrestlers. Then he was from the Darkside. Again, a lot of good wrestlers have come from the darkside but why forsake parts unknown? Then all of a sudden he's from Death Valley?!?!?! WHAT!??!?! Thats forsaking where your from! And then he was from Huston TX, what the crap man, that doesn't even go with the theme of the rest of the places! Now wheres he from? Where was he announced from the other night?

Actually the title states you're pissed...with a "p". And I think it's very odd too, considering that Backlash is in Edmonton, perhaps it's just a sign that he won't be on the RAW roster come Monday? Just a theory I spose....

Caped Boy: Excuse me, ladies. You may remember me as the guy who came to dinner a few weeks ago with underwear on my head. My name is Keith Stat from Milbourne, New Jersey. State bird, the mosquito. And as you may have heard I am recently a crowned class B dungeon-master. So if any of you would like to play D&D today, please speak now or forever hold your peace.
[He chuckles, and there is an awkward silence at the table.]
Caped Boy: Anyone? Alexa!
[Alexa gives him a withering glare.]
Caped Boy: Maybe you would like to join in? We do need a druid, and you have definitely cast a level 5 charm spell on me.
Alexa: In your dreams, douche-bag!
Caped Boy: Douche-bags are hygienic products, I take that as a compliment. Thank you.
[Keith walks off]
Alexa: Ewww!

If it's a subtle attempt to get Benoit (more) over with an American audience, then there's no issue here.

If we're getting picky, he was born in Montreal. I've never heard him announced as being from there...

I was being a bit over-zealous...with an "o"...but anyways...and I bought tickets to Backlash with the sole purpose of seeing Benoit so...that would definately make me furious!!

But other then the Taker *rolls her eyes*...have there been ANY other significant home-town changes??

Cheers,

Erin

Special Delivery Jones was from Antigua when he wrestled outside of Philadelphia, but from Philadelphia when the WWF was at the Spectrum. That went on for YEARS.

I think Erin(Ta2) has a point and the question is legit. It is somewhat strange to be said to be from somewhere his entire career and then on the biggest night of his career be said to be from somewhere else, especially considering their a month away from the "hometown" boy coming home to defend his championship... If you don't think it could be an issue, you forgotten how quickly the Canadian fans turned on Jericho when HBK commented "Why Mr. Canada lives in Florida" during a Raw in Canada or the Jim Carrey U.S citizenship skit when Conan was filming shows in Toronto.

It's actually a decent question about people changing cities during their career. I've seen them do it for a week when a hometown heel comes home and they don't want him to get a pop.... But it usually when it's a gimmicked location and then turns into a more realistic location. Dudleyz from Dudleyville changing to NYC has been mentioned and also Unkertaker Death Valley to Houston. But again that location was always very gimmicked

Mic Foley is one that was billed from Truth or Consequences, New Mexico in WCW for certain as Cactus Jack. I don't really remember if WWF ever said he was from there during any time... Lex Luger I think was billed from Chicago when he's in WCW but when he came to WWE he was said to be from Atlanta (or was it that other way around).

Another person that was changed locations is Molly Holly, as the "Holly cousin" she was said to be from Alabama and now she's being introduced more from Minnesota. But then again that falls under gimmicked location... Wasn't Montly Crew Bodyguard Test said to be from Las Vegas for the first year of his career and then from No Fixed Address then turned UnAmerican and came true as a Canadian (for some reason I didn't think many Canadians minded him saying he's from Las Vegas LoL). Speaking of Canadians pretending to be from Vegas, Val Venis is another one who's always said to be from Vegas but the PBP announcers at more then one occasion let it slip that he's Canadian.

Back to Benoit, I think they are doing this to hope American's can connect more to him if he's said to be American. I think that's really silly I don't think a WWE fan from New York is going to cheer more because someone because someone is from Atlanta instead of Alberta. Heck just see Luger and Bret... I think Erin got a point, it is kind of strange. If they did that when Benoit first came to the WWF and decided to say his current residence I could kind of understand it would be like the Luger (Chicago-Atlanta). But to do it 3 years later I find it a litte strange also.

Not exactly, but I can't see it hurting any more than anything else WWE has done in the last year. WWE needs new ideas, even if they come from someone who's ideas are rooted back in 1995.
