This is in response to Dirk's brain-dead response.

GuruZim, if your reading this, this really sucks. You ought to know that the ability to convinently quote messages you
are responding to and indeed to see the "thread" of responses. This is of the essense in any public discussion forum.

Otherwise just provide a convienent gateway to RSPWM and be done with it. ;-)

We can't MAKE people use the "Quote" option. I think most people have sufficient working intelligence to figure out the relation between your reply and one directly underneath it.

Also, I gotta tellya it's really confusing to followup to a thread in one forum in a completely different forum. ;-)

This response uses the quote button you talk about in your response. Still

1) having a quote button AND a reply button is non-intutive.
2) Since what you give me when I push the quote button is html,
I will be damned if I ever edit it down.
3)Threading while definetely not a top priority, is surely a nice thing to
have on your wish-list. ;-)
4)While those who are participating can figure out what is what, anyone who
comes across the thread after a while will not be able to do.
5) Also in a nice long thread, there will be plenty of deviations and
side-tracks taken. Threading enables one to figure out what is happening and
ignore the side-tracks that one wishes to side-track

I gotta tell ya, I don't see this is as big a problem as you're making it out to be. We don't have THAT many "long threads" around here.

Currently, there's nothing in the code to link one article to another in a thread...articles are listed as belonging to a thread and that's it - they get pulled out of the database and listed in age order.

So I guess what I'm saying is the chances of that LEAVING your wish list are probably close to nil while we're running this version of the boardware.

It's up to everybody to find their own way of helping others understand what they're referring to in their messages - whether it's by using the "Quote" button (which actually isn't as non-intuitive as you...intuit), using [quote] and [/quote] tags, cutting and pasting old school style, or what have you. *I* just hope at the same time they can TRY to keep from screwing up the tables and forcing me to edit their posts and add a SHAME! tag. ;-)

hey, I really don't want threading all that badly either. ;-0

BUT, ... I have been all over usenet, web-based boards etc
and your board is the 1st one where the reply button does
not give me quoted text to edit. Don't tell me this is
intuitive.

Purposed work-around: Rename the 2 buttons "Reply without quoting"
and "Reply with quoting"

And hoping for a reply with text-only quoting button. ;-) ;-)

Um....

Check out EZ-board or CoolBoard if they are still in business. They don't do that either.

Anyway, thanks for the input. I'll mull it over when we look at revising things.

Mind you, this tie should only be worn if you are going to eat Mexican food during the day. Chili's does not count.
