Well I, for one, have had my faith in a resonable legislative branch of government somewhat restored. We'll have to wait and see if Jr. lets it through though.

EDIT: LINK.......AFIED!!!!!

I hope they kill the thing off. No need for senseless spying on our own...

"They've got some crazy people over there."

They sure do. And even funnier was the FBI guy saying that this isn't a program that snoops into American's privacy. Sure it's not! Well, American "terrorists" maybe, but not REAL Americans!

Don't they already read all our email through the CARNIVORE program?

This may not be true anymore but at one time CARNIVORE was set up so the governments involved would spy on each others public and not their own (and then share the info) ... that got around the messy business of spying on their own citizens. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

The whole privacy vs security issue is one with no easy answer. A huge chunk of money awaits someone who has a solution which can guarentee both. I'm somewhat pessimistic about this happening though ... if would appear the more you have of one the less you'll have of the other.

I hope I'm not the only one getting a 1984 vibe from this (and, among other things, the terror alert system). There's no need, really, for TIA. It's just way too extensive.

I think we are a long way away from 1984- a LONG way....

Not that restraint when posting in a "public" forum isn't a good thing...

Trust me....we're closer than you think. I shudder to think how far it will go if the shit does hit the fan again.

CRZ, you put the 'fun' back in "Boy, California sure is the most dysfunctional state in the Union." I'd just like to say I'm really enjoying the coverage of the candidates.
