I believe "Person of the Year" involves their impact on the world. Not good or bad. I think we have this discussion every year. We may think he is creepy and destroying their democracy but the people are letting him. Democracy and true freedom are scary things and this is a society that had never known either. They long for stability and got it.

Lest we get to uppity as a country, we fight the urge for security over freedom from time to time also.

I'm kinda shocked. Sure, Putin is bringing back the 'Iron Curtain' but I didn't think he had as much dealings in the rest of the world this year as others.

I'd have guessed Hugo Chavez or Al Gore.

Forget it Josh... it's Cerebustown.

Couldn't you make a legitimate argument for Anna Nicole Smith for PoY? Has anybody else this year as big of an impact, whatwith her son's death, her death, and the chaos and near END YES END of a normal human society. This year Anna Nicole begat Paris begat Lindsey begat Britney begat Jamie-Lynn (gross). Perez Hilton is a name. A name I now know for some reason. CNN became the Hilton channel and aired more prison coverage than that show on FOX. May not be in the right direction, but she was the Person of the Year.

In what you cite, I would make society the POY since if we didn't care, what you talk about would be a nonissue.

That's correct - and I was hoping I would win back to back.
