Packers under investigation amid bounty allegations
NFL officials are investigating whether Green Bay Packers players offered payments to teammates for achieving specific defensive goals.
League rules prohibit teams and players "from offering or accepting bonuses to a player for his or his team's performance against a particular team, a particular opposing player or players, or a particular group of an opposing team."
League spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed the investigation Monday.
ESPN reported that Packers defensive backs offered to pay the team's defensive linemen $500 each if they were able to hold Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson under 100 yards rushing two weeks ago, and another $500 for holding Carolina to under 60 yards rushing as a team on Sunday.
Peterson was held to 45 yards rushing before he left the Vikings' Nov. 11 loss to the Packers with an injury. But the Panthers rushed for 131 yards in Sunday's loss to Green Bay.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday morning he was not aware of the situation, but had not yet spoken to general manager Ted Thompson.

Meh. From reading it, it's the DBs (presumably Harris and Woodson) offering money to the D-Linemen. The Packers organization itself does not sound like its in trouble. You hear bounty and you think of offering money to injure a player, but it doesn't sound like it's anything like that. If the allegations are true, the players will be fined. End of story.

Jim McMahon? You mean Brett Favre's backup? Whose last Super Bowl ring was with the Packers because the great Chicago Ditkas didn't have it in them to get back to the Super Bowl?
Bears suck.

I mean the Jim McMahon with one more ring than the great Brett Favre. The one who led as many championship teams as Brett.
All the trees in Chicago lean a little to the north because the Packers suck.
I was talking with my friends about this last night and we brought up the hit on Adrian Peterson that took him out. It sure as hell looked like whoever it was that hit him nailed Peterson in the knee with his helmet, but they never threw the flag cuz they were so concerened about AP as soon as he went down. I distinctly remember them showing the replay a couple of times and asking the buds why the hell that wasn't a penalaty. If this goes a little further and it looks like he was intentionally trying to hurt him (ie: "keep him under 100 yards rushing"), I wonder what they might do to either the player or organization? I know, I know, this is pure speculation, but the hit really does stick out in my mind.

I was thinking more because they desparately want out of Illinois...to each their own I guess.
As to the hit on Adrian Peterson. I think that's a bit of a stretch. That was such a schmozz of a group, that anyone aiming for a moving target would have to be Deadshot. Every replay they showed, the commentators remarked that it was a clean hit.
That being said, I was glad to see AP get up. No one wants to see a season ended that way.
I really don't know about that, and this isn't a "YOU'RE A PACKER FAN AND YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!" thing, either. It really did look like a helmet to the knee, and I wasn't the only one that saw this. (Thru our jaded purple vision) ;-)
And yes, it was a relief to see him on the sideline 15 minutes later jumping up and down shaking it off, even if he didn't come back.

The flaw in this logic is that it is assumed that Harris and Woodson are the ones paying, since they make the most money. Why would Harris take Peterson out, thus assuring that he'd be paying the D-line?
Also, have you seen Al's tackling form? It's not exactly noteworthy.
Finally, I hope you know my "whining" comment was meant in fun. I've heard the same here from a co-worker who is a Viking fan, and prefaces many of his comments with "I'm only whining, but..."
I'd wager there was never any doubt in anybody's mind that Brady would retire a Patriot. Looks like a done deal now. Good on him. You have to respect someone who stays with his original team, and the one he's led to so much success.
