Ironic that Rawhide Kid is gay and his old best buddy used to be Hawkeye, a guy in a purple costume.... hmmm.....

Second. Northstar of Alpha Flight was gay. And I've long had my suspicions reharding Wolverine, but anyway...

Why?

One in ten. How many superheroes are there?

Also, why not?

I have to echo DJ Ran's sentiments -- the whole Northstar thing happened during my brief lurking tenure on rec.arts.comics.marvel.* (or whatever it was).

To think, I stopped reading the comics groups on usenet because everyone was always so negative -- they'd second guess the editors' decisions, slam the writing, and complain about how characters were being ruined in favor of characters that ``nobody finds interesting anyway.''

Good thing I got out of there...

Marvel's getting all diversy on us lately. First it's the best-character-decision-ever, the Thing being Jewish (although we all knew that already), and now this.

From what I remember, there was a lesbian supporting character (Chen?) on the short lived "Silver Sable" series about 10 years ago, which was the most underrated comic of the time I think.

And I've long had my suspicions reharding Wolverine, but anyway...

Wolverine? Dude, the gayest super-hero is, bar-none, the Silver Surfer.

Now we need a trannie super-hero.

Why? I agree with Run, why not? Although, I'd kind of dig it if he just wasn't gay out of nowhere , and had to go through the whole self-discovery/coming-out process. Kind of like Spider Man, except with being gay instead of sticking to walls.

Why Wolverine? He gets like EVERY girl.... that's the bigger question, how this savage, hairy, little dude gets EVERY girl to love him. My friends and I used to argue all the time, we came up with everything from animal magnatism to his healing factor enabling him to erm, "Recharge" in bed in seconds flat.

My half baked Wolvy theory:

We've established Northstar is gay.
Alpha Flight runs out of Canada.
Wolvy has always been jealous of Summers/Jean Grey.
- Could it be because he wants Scott?
Wolvy is always moody
- Becuase there arew so few available men around.
- Cyke and Gambit are taken, Beast is hairier than him and he's not into 'bears', Xavier can't perform...

Now, how does Wolverine clear his mind when it's too much?

Right. He goes to *CANADA*. Gets himself abused for a few weeks, comes back good as new.

Clearly he prefers muscle boys (Northstar, Cyclops). The control he always needs to exert in his daily life, combined with the healing factor get me thinking he's a bottom.

From the story...I got the feeling that they might be going for more of a "Ambiguously Gay Duo" feel.

Sunfire, from Exiles is a lesbian...
Plus Marvel just came up with a new characher- I think her name is Dust? She is a Muslim Woman (complete with Birka and everything....
Yeah, it is safe to say they are going the route of "diversity."
And please... do not get me started on that bogus 1 in 10 statistic... this is not the politics forum....

Well, even if it's one in 100, there's definitely at least a few hundred second-string superheroes in the Marvel and DC universes.

Ooh goodie. I can't wait until Marvel comes out with characters for other deviant sexual lifestyles.

There can be the evil villain pedophile (no priest jokes please), the guy into beastiality (look out Dr. Henry McCoy!!), and the sado/masochists. What a great duo that would be: Master and slave. But "slave" is not PC so we gotta go with Dom/sub. But then a woman being bossed around by a guy is not PC either so make it Domme and sub.

What a great set of books for comic reading kids!

How is a comic for kids where a guy hero is attracted to guys any different than one where a guy hero is attracted to girls? I would be upset if either one had graphic content, but just the idea of same sex attraction isn't "evil". Hell, if you read books chock full of muscular guys in spandex and post on a board about guys that roll around with each other in their underpants, there are some pretty damn homoerotic undertones there.

I'd dispute the Element Lad thing, if we're talking about the Giffen/T&M story with Erin and her sex-changing drug. If it's something after that, I'll plead ignorance.

Also, Mystique and Destiny were subtly written as lesbians, at least early on in the Brotherhood stories. Who knows now, or at least once Mystique becamee Nightcrawler's mother.

I suppose they mean American comic books, as there's been many, many Mangas (Anime comics) with gay characters... not to mention quite a few television series's...

Well, thanks to Alias #1, we all know Luke Cage likes to do white women up the butt, so you already got the interacial sodomite covered.

Joking aside, homosexuality is becoming very common place these days. Look at Rosie O'Donnell(...or don't, shes ugly as hairy ass), Rupert Everett, Ellen Degenerous, Tom Cruise(Oh please, like you really think he's not; quit fooling yourself.), and the list goes on and on.

And if you think some of your favorite wrestlers aren't into a little man love, why don't you try traveling across country week after week and not seeing your wife or girlfriend for sometimes months at a time. You know that's why they travel together and stay in the same room... Just something to think about.

Yeah I was thinking of the Shvaughn Erin storyline, but it has also been established that E-Lad's sexuality is "different" from Earthers. That's been mentioned several times.

DC could take it a step further, only in a humorous way. Imagine a Blue Beetle, Booster Gold tandem that has the ladies throwing themselves at them, only the duo is too nerdy to realize it. Like a girl could be like "Take me home superheroes!" and they could take it too literaly and fly her home. Well, that example wasn't the best, but it could be funny.
