According to Da Meltz, the foxxxy Gail Kim will be appearing in bra & panty matches this weekend with Dawn Marie.

Also, James "Leetle Gweedo" Maritato will be debuting as crazy cousin Nunzio.

And I will put a 90 day moratorium on whining about HHH if McMahon can introduce an Asian character (Kim is Korean) without making her an over the top stereotype (Geisha, Ninja, Inscrutable detective, Calculus Professor). Bonus points if she's not portrayed as a "Martial arts expert".

If her stills are to be believed, she's dressed as a boxer every time I've seen her, and while boxing, strictly speaking, *is* a martial art....

I dunno, I'm all for doing away with pointless stereotypes, but I might dig a ninja character who's always sneaking around in her bra & panties...

Besides, Vince hasn't show that much racism towards Asians. After all, I bet half of the Asians in the companies history weren't even Asian.

Hmm...now that I think about it, there haven't been too many Asians these days in WWE or even in the last ten years. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Tajiri.

Yokuzuna was Samoan, NOT Japanese, so he doesn't count!

Can anybody think of any other Asians who came into WWE and came out with a significant push?

They gave Antonio Inoki some kind of compensation title for screwing him with that whole Backlund deal back in '78 I think...

I'd say Taka Michinoku was given as legitimate a push as any Asian performer of the last twenty years in North America, save for maybe Ultimo Dragon in WCW.

"Um, yeah. So you’re telling me all Torrie had to do to save us this crappy TV is please the cheese? Christ…If that’s all it took - I’d eat out LINDA McMAHON to save myself this garbage TV - Hell I’d toss Vince’s salad after a visit from Pat Patterson - uh - maybe not."

Hakushi got somewhat of a push, albeit as the stereotypical ninja.

If a manager can get a push, Mr. Fuji got a couple of good ones. He managed Demolition while they were tag champs, and he managed Yoko, who was the world champ for just shy of a year.

Here's the results, including Nunzio, local gal Gail Kim, and someone named Scott Steiner, who apparently didn't impress all that much.

Scott Steiner gets a bad review from someone on the 'net. Shocking! For comparison, check out the review posted on the Observer:

"7. Scott Steiner def. B-Squared. Steiner looked OK in his debut and far got one of the biggest pops of the night. Tons of "Steiner" chants in this one. Originally, Cena was slated to face Steiner but Buchanan did instead. Decent match. Steiner went suplex happy in the match and after some inteference from Cena eventually got B-Squared to tap to the Steiner Recliner in a match that clocked in at 9:00. Steiner was alright but he wasn't spectacular either. His career is not what it once was and I personally hope WWE doesn't have the future of their company riding on him cause I don't honestly think he can come through 100% all the time. He was alright tonight, not horrible, but not great either."

Perspective goes a long way.

With the exception of a few matches, Scott Steiner hasn't been a good worker since about 1997.

Well, OFFICIALLY the WWF recognizes Antonio Inoki as a former WWF Champion...so, that's not racism! Yay! And yes, Yokozuna was Samoan...but Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito were both Japanese, and were two of the best tag team champions in history...so...yay! Yay for Asian violence! (in the same vein as Canadian Violence!)

Maritato will rock...although Jamie's buried pretty far down now...

She'll probably be a Dragon Lady/dominatrix thing ala Kimona as Leia Meow.

If youre including WCW, then Muta would be at the top. WCW even dedicaed a PPV to a US vs Japan best of seven series.

And regardless of what anyone else thinks, I say the WWE NEEDS a good calculus professor, regardless of race or gender.

Some words regarding Antonio Inoki and the WWF:

Inoki won the WWF Championship from Bob Backlund on 11/30/79 in Tokushima, Japan, becoming the first wrestler to actually win the WWF Championship (Backland's reign began as a WWWF Championship reign). His title victory was not recognized in North America. He vacated the title on December 6 after a controversial rematch with Backlund, and then the WWF pushed the reset button and had Backlund defeat Bobby Duncum for the vacant title. (WWF revisionist history will tell you that the WWF Championship was never vacant in its history until the events leading to the WrestleMania IV tournament, but this is actually not the case.)

But regarding the “belt Vince gave him as compensation”, well, surprisingly that's not the case. Inoki was awarded the WWF/New Japan Martial Arts Title on 12/18/78, almost a full year before he won the WWF Championship. Inoki held the belt for over ten years before losing it to Shota Chochoshivili on 4/24/89.
