Does anyone have a favorite good or bad 80's tv show? In another thread, I'd mentioned Airwolf, but that wasn't my favorite from that time decade. I'd have to go with either Tales of the Gold Monkey, Riptide or (God help me for this one...) Dallas.

Tales of the Gold Monkey was an EXCELLENT show starring Stephen Collins and featured a one-eyed, talking dog. Dallas as you all know was a weekly bad acting drama with main characters either getting shot(Larry Hagman!) or turned into speed bumps(Patrick Duffy!) and Riptide was the awsome show with the orange robot and the pink helicopter.

The worst shows from the 80's I remember were either The Master Automan, or TJ Hooker. The Master was a extremely bad show with Lee Van Cleef as a ninja... BAD! Automan starred Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball's kid with horrible 'TRON' computer effects. Lastly and the least of which, TK HOOKER had a overweight Bill Shatner denting police car hoods and Adrian Zmed who just can't die soon enough.

Well, I'm sure SOMEONE's gonna gripe about one or more of these, but that's what we're here for. Have at it kids!

Yeah, but "The Master" became "Master Ninja" for two stellar MST3K episodes from their third season (shows 322 and 324,) so there's a least one redeeming quality.

i was a kid when Automan was out and my cousin and i would try to imitate his sharp corner turning trick and slam ourselfes into walls and stuff...

I loved Voyagers! with the dude with the time travelling watch. Small Wonder, with the android "daughter" Vicky. Misfits of Science, Greatest American Hero, Fall Guy, M*A*S*H, Sherriff Lobo, Knight Rider.

Most of the sitcoms on Nick @ Night i watched, but since i didn't turn 13 until 1990, i mostly remember the cartoons. G.I. Joe, Transformers, D&D, Silverhawks, He-Man, Robotech, Go-Bots, Tranzor Z, Voltron, and Speed Racer, which Captain Chesapeake would give FOUR dings on his bell for [points to Grimis if he can remember which channel the Capt was on]

DDP: Well, there's this little passage I got memorized, Diamond Dallas 25:17. Sort of fits this occasion:

Blessed is he, who in the name of tradition and sports entertainment carries the stiffs through the matches of Nitro, for he is truly the workrate's keeper, and the finder of lost quality. And I will lay the smack down upon thee with great vengeance and furious roid rage those who attempt to outwrestle and expose my brothers. And you will know my name as the Bookerman, when I lay my catchphrase upon thee!"

By far, ALF, falling into the former. And I dunno if you remember Video Power... it started off as a show about video games, then turned into a game show about video games... pretty weird. At the end, you had to run through a cheesy mall set, grabbing NES or Genesis games and sticking them to your Velcro vest... why do I remember this again?

To make drjayphd feel somewhat better, I also recall Video Power, but all I recall about it was the endgame. I'm certain that it was NES games as opposed to Genesis. Jackie Chan's Kung Fu was a frequent prize, and I believe that was NES.

I most loved the cheesy 80's game shows. Super Pay Cards, Pitfall, Definition (technically started way before the 80's) and Mad Dash as low-budget favourites, and I believe all were Canadian. I'm certain and the last 3, not 100 percent certain about SPC.

The one that stands out as the worst was something called "Love Me, Love Me Not", which saw male and female contestants quizzing each other about sex/relationship topics. The endgame saw them chasing each other around a giant daisy for a car. Ross Shafer hosted this.

Video Power will always haunt me but what God the funniest thing happened on that show. This fat kid with glasses was the winner and the host went to get him his finall prize and he picked like 3 Gameboy games and the kid goes "But I don't have a Gameboy". Dead silence, then the host laughs and pushes the boy of camera.
Best thing about the 80's was the cartoons. Every channel had something on Saterday but the best was the monster cartoon block on USA I can't remember half of the cartoons they played but damn did they have a bunch

Tales From the Darkside = Best horror show ever.

And creepiest opening theme. Try having that come on in a dark room on a Saturday night.

Oh yeah! The main character would always crotch down behind a crate and come out as a panther... that one was pretty bad too, but fun to watch, like Man From Atlantis!

Let's see, I was quite a young 'un during this period, so I remember mostly the cartoons, most of which were mentioned already. Oh yeah, and Alf.

Hey, does anyone here by any chance remember Captain Power? It was a live action sci-fi type show about.....I have no idea what, but it was actually interactive! You could get the toys and shoot lazers at stuff on the TV screen, or if somebody at the screen shot at somebody, then the toys would go berserk, for example, the toy of the main villian of the show came in a big jet plane thing, and whenever the titular (hehe) hero shot a lazer at him, the cockpit of this plane would blow open and the seat would come flying out (cuz, see, it meant he was defeated).

Somebody please tell me they remember this crazy-ass show and tell me I'm not insane. Nobody I knew at school ever saw this show or ever knew anything about it, and whenever I ask people of my generation, they look at me like I'm some kind of crazy person...much like most of you are right now, I imagine.

I remember this show. You are not insane (at least, not because of this). It was on when I was in the sixth grade, so that would make it... counting backwards... somewhere around 1988.

Even more interesting is that one of the writers for this show was J. Michael Straczynski, who went on to create Babylon 5 (as well as either writing for or creating a whole host of other stuff - the man is remarkably diverse).

Mmmm... Ashley Judd. The perfect woman. 1) Absolutely gorgeous. 2) Loves UK basketball. 3) Was on Star Trek. What more can you ask for?

How can there be an 80's thread with no one mentioning the greatest Cop Show ever: Miami Vice!!!!
Don't forget Magnum PI. My favorite scene ever was probably:
"Ivan, did you see the Sun rise this morning?"
"... Yes"
"Good" *BAM!!*

or is the thread just for corny 80's tv.

As for the shows that have been mentioned so far:

I loved The Master and Automan. Sure, they were BAD but it was a good bad. I remember Captain Power too. Who was that flying suit of armor they used to fight? Am I thinking of the right thing?

How can anyone rag on TJ Hooker? It gave us early teen boys Heather Locklear! Hoo-ahh!

Was tales of the Golden Monkey about some guy with a plane in the 30's ? Did the dog really talk? I don't remember that. But I remember the guy losing the dog's eye in every other poker game.

Manimal was another corny show I liked.

Tales of the Darkside scared the HELL out of me several times. Anyone remember the episode with the college girl renting a room from some creepy old lady and there was this little door in the back of the closet? And some little monster lived in there? Man, that still freaks me out.

Anyone remember some western show with "Wildside" in the title? There were guys who could spin pistols like Johnny Ringo and one spanish dude only used knives. Corny, but cool to a young lad like myself.

Yeh and Sheriff Lobo, I remember some girl called "Peaches" on that show

Ah, memories....

It was a creepy old man. The old lady (his wife) died of cancer years before and he lived alone in the house with the creature. The end was the creepiest part where you finally find out what the creature is--his pet.

One of my favorites was with Christian Slater who played the son of an old farmer who was a zombie that did not realize he was dead. Slater finally puts pepper in his napkin at dinner and the rotting zombie sneezes his nose off. He finally realizes he is dead and goes upstairs to sleep forever.

::insert Tales from the Darkside theme here::

Agreed on best Magnum moment, only rivaled by the "Doheney kicks ass" montage from the Magnum with Sinatra, possibly the finest hour of tv produced during the decade.

WTF??? 15 posts and no one gives 21 Jump Street any love whatsoever?? It was, and still is (to me) the greatest show of all time. Of course, having said that, I always wondered (if I remember correctly, the show was set in Vancouver) how many high schools there could possibly be in the greater Vancouver area, that high school students wouldn't recognize them sooner or later. Holly Robinson....sigh....Damn you Rodney Peete!

Anyone remember Parker Lewis Can't Lose? I loved this show. I think originally this was supposed to be a takeoff on Ferris, but I never got that out of it.

I remember watching a lot of Square Pegs, MASH, Fantasy Island, SNL with Anthony Michael Hall and Robert Downey Jr, Hill Street Blues, and Diff'rent Stokes....

Ahh the 80s gotta love it. Great Video Power story rabidZebra lol

Parker Lewis Can't Lose was a great show.

Does anyone remember sledgehammer! (yes, I think the show had an exclamation point ala Smackdown lol)It is about a whacked out detective who has a love for mayhem with a catchphrase "Trust Me! I know what I'm doing" usually before something blows up lol. Unfortunatly it only lasted 2 seasons. The funny thing is that they were sure that they'd be cancelled after the first season that they killed everyone off and in season 2 they came back saying that this season took place 5 Years BEFORE everyone was killed off
Perfect Strangers was so dumb that it was good, Quantum Leap was okay... Coach was good until he left coaching college and went to the pros. Boy did that show go downhill fast after that, Jump the Shark without a doubt

But the best show of the 80s (not including the great sledgehammer) has to be Night Court. First few seasons were kind of weak but after they got all the characters down that show had great laughs episode after episode for years. Might be my favourite sitcom ever

OMG! i LOVED sledgehammer! i forgot all about it...dim wit w/ big gun with hot smart chick...

i forgot about jump street. i remember only the esp where the vietnamese dude had to sort silverware as fast as possible to get into a gang. How about Booker? i saw a few shows and passed on it...

I loved night court too, and after the 2nd or 3rd season when they switched to the blonde chick, is when i started watching...trivia note: Brent Spiner (Data) played a goof "Bob Wheeler" that had a recurring role...

i don't want to start a fight but if you're gonna credit J. Michael Straczynski for B5, then you have to give a credit to J.R.R. Tolkien. B5 was LotR in space...

It was absolutely a takeoff of Ferris. They even made fun of that in one of the season enders. Parker Lewis was great because of all the inside jokes and cameos they threw at you.
