Not going to do a big play-by-play--just general impressions. Under the influence of beer, homemade nachos and a complete lack of the Undertaker! *sob* Look, I love wrestling in general--it's wonderful entertainment, but there is a special warm place in my heart for the big red-headed lunk. ;-) I can't help but mourn his absence.

Very uneven overall. It started out well--I think my biggest mark-out of the night was for the re-formation of the Dudley Boyz. ;-) And I'm not even a big fan of theirs. It simply needed to be done. That match was fun--at least half of it was. Three Minute Warning are useless sacks of crap, IMO, and blew spots left and right. Every time they twitched a finger, I started a personal "You Fucked Up" chant. At least Jeff Hardy looks good screwing the pooch.

The tag team title three-way. Why take out Angle and Benoit so quickly? That didn't sit well with anyone in my family room. That said, it would have been difficult for anyone in that match to give a bad performance! Some lovely stuff going on in there. I *heart* Los Dos Guerreros. Rey Rey seemed shaken up by that fall from the top rope, and he kept clutching his knee. Please go get that surgery and heal up, little guy. I want to give you a kiss to make it all better...

I liked the cruiserweight match as well (dug the DDT off the turnbuckle) and I actually watched most of the women's match, which is unusual for me, but after BS won the title, things went downhill.

Yes, I marked for the F5, because I never thought the kid would pull it off! And yeah, Brock is busted, got to let the ribs heal, yada yada. But putting the belt around the flabbiest waist in the company, when he is at fault for the champ's injury, just ain't right.
Scott Steiner? Who? I didn't watch WCW. Why, you think I should have? When are those muscles going to pop holes in his epidermis and go squirming across the canvas like bits of diced anaconda? Brrr.

Elimination Chamber, while taking in some nice spots (mostly RVD's) was no more than workmanlike in the first part, and eventually collapsed into a tangled mess. Oh, so everyone in there hates HHH like poison? They don't care who wins as long as it ain't him?

Yeah...right. That explains why he got so much nap time in the corners while the other guys whaled on each other and let him gold-brick. I didn't know that he had been hurt by the frog splash until I got online later, but even so, very bad psychology that ultimately spoiled the match for me. So predictable that I called with only one mistake:

A. The order in which the competitors entered the ring.
B. Who would be locked in the cages.
C. The order in which they would be released (I transposed Kane and Booker.)
D. The final two and the winner.

And no, that was only to my husband, so no points to me. ;-)

HBK, whom I consider one of the all-time greats, seems to have slacked off on his lifting lately. He looks like he's lost thirty pounds of meat. Kudos for the elbow off the top of the corner cage, though. I would assume that is the last time we will see anything of the kind for months, if ever. Any bets on whether he jobs/relinquishes the belt this week, or next week?

Had its upside, but last month's PPV was worth two of it, IMO. I'm glad some people liked it better than I did! I'd love to love every one, alas, but they can't all be above average...

Well, as you can probably tell from my posts over in the general forum, I didn't like it. But I seem to be in the minority.

Boring boring boring, is all I have to say. I thought the Chamber match was dull, and I'm sure part of that has to do with the fact that I knew my two favorites in the match, Jericho and Booker, didn't have a prayer of winning. You didn't need to be a smark to realize that. Booker never wins and Jericho is a tag champ already, so he's not gonna get the vaunted Double-Gold (copyright 2000, Edge and Christian).

Also, we watched the show at our local sports bar, and our waiter decided to QUIT halfway through serving us. So we sat there thinking, "Where the hell are my goddamn refills?" for about 40 minutes before another waitress came over and informed us our waiter had pulled a Stone Cold.

Highlights of the night for me: Dudley Boyz reunion, Brock F-5ing Show and making it look simple, and one of my friends pointing out that Ric Flair looks a lot like Dustin Hoffman. Heh, I never thought of it, but he really does.

I had some expectations going in, but I was entertained despite the Big Show. I already expressed my thoughts on the main board, but I really enjoyed it last night. Oh, and what really made it great....no Stephanie! At all! Come on, give them points for THAT alone.

Maybe it was the full moon – I dunno. But it seemed like I spent half the show worrying about who was hurt, how bad were they hurt, what happened that they got hurt. Just because they call it “Survivor Series” doesn’t mean that the guys have to take it so literally!

I don’t recall seeing anybody comment on the weird stage/entry setup. That had me all messed up right from the start! (I’m so easily confused.) The entry doors were kinda cool, but it had to be terribly annoying for the people there live to not have the video screens, & the pyro in a weird place. I never did figure out where they had JR & Lawler parked.

2 Dudleys & Jeff Hardy vs. 3 Minute Men & Rico
I thought Jeff was looking really good, other than the “missed spot” with Rico. Rico was looking over to where Jeff was last seen (several times, quite obviously) before he went up the ropes. So when Jeff didn’t appear, & Rico was yelling for him, I got worried that something had actually happened to Jeff on the dive to the table. (What was that quote? “Its all fun & games til somebody fractures a cervical vertebra” ?) But then we also had a couple of times when Bubba was having to hang around, waiting for Jamal to turn up – at least Bubba’s experienced enough to keep it from looking too obvious. I don’t like Rosie & Jamal, but there was still a lot of fun stuff in this match, in between the screw-ups. (It has to have been the full moon!)

Given that they didn’t (seem to) have video screens, what was the audience getting to do while we were watching Saliva? (OK, while we were getting a fresh beer.) Personally, I could have used the potty break a bit later in the show.

Jamie Noble vs. Billy Kidman
I had noticed that in their last match on Smackdown, it looked like Kidman was having back problems. (Couldn’t tell for positive, but it didn’t seem like something that would be useful just as a work.) When that came back up in this match, I had that to get all concerned about. (When did I become a damn Florence Nightingale??) The match came off pretty well anyway, & I was quite surprised that they turned the title.

Chris Benoit being appalled by Kurt repeatedly hugging him is priceless.

Victoria vs. Trish Stratus
Victoria doing the “Mirror, mirror on the wall” bit wasn’t bad. She does a decent psycho. (What’s that old adage about incorporating some of your real personality into your character? Hmm.) I laughed my ass off when I saw the garbage cans full of stuff strategically tied to the ringposts. However, I could have done without the ironing board, planted so Jerry could quip, “She’s domesticated too!” I thought they did a pretty good job. (And I was not one tiny bit worried about either one of them actually being hurt. Yea!!)

Big Show vs. Brock w/ Heyman
“I will do everything in my power to make sure that my client leaves here the WWE champion.” Even if we didn’t know already that Paul was turning on Brock, we knew then.

Did everybody notice how thick the wrapping on Show’s arm was? That must be very messy under there.

I wasn’t expecting much, given Brock’s injury coming in. Then when they scheduled it this early in the show, I really turned down any remaining expectations. Brock did fine under the circumstances though. I’ll bet the next time we see Brock F5 Show – after he’s healed – it’ll be better looking. I was fine with the match though, & thought the Heyman turn & Brock’s reaction were well done. Their running for the limo was pretty funny – I wouldn’t have thought that Paul Heyman could outpace much of anybody!

3-way Tag Team Match
Kurt came out with a big ol’ knee brace on, & Rey was having problems with his mask from the start. Then Rey nearly fell through the ropes, & it looked like he whiplashed himself a bit. It took a while for him to get back to being “right”, including the scary missed bounce off the top ropes. It looked like finally Kurt was hanging onto that facelock for quite a while, maybe giving Rey a chance to get collected up. (Either that, or practicing chiropractic without a license.)

I haven’t seen anybody name/describe that slightly-silly-but-really-cool moveset where Benoit is throwing Edge around with German suplexes, & Eddie goes up to the top rope, takes over Benoit (sunset flip?), which in turn flips Edge as well. Effectively pinning both Benoit & Edge at the same time. That was sooooo cooool. :-)

Nowinski, Mattitude, Steiner
Nowinski does do great heat-gathering promos. When Matt said “lupid” the first thing that went through my mind was “Hand over all your lupins.” – way too much Python in my formative years. Steiner’s not exactly setting my world on fire so far, but I don’t have the WCW nostalgia that many appear to.

Elimination Chamber
Dead Cow Man wasn’t wearing dead cow, it was black denim. Here they go, confusing me again!

I don’t think even Y2J knew what he was supposed to do to fill time while Saliva played his entire song as entrance music. At least they had the decency to load him first, so the other guys didn’t have to stand around through that. And did everybody notice that he’d ponytailed that silly beard? If he’s got to keep the silly thing, at least its better collected up.

I loved Kane standing around in his cage in the background, just hanging onto the ceiling chains, & letting the uplights wash over him. For the most part, they did a pretty nice job of the Chamber itself, & especially the lighting. What I hated was the “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” effect on the countdown to release.

Why did Flair bother to come out with HHH? I suppose there might have been something that he was supposed to do that got cut in the on-the-fly-replan. HHH needs to be renamed Hunter Houdini Helmsley – first he escapes from the car trunk, then he opens the door on the inescapable Elimination Chamber. And what was he doing getting bloody that early on in the match?

I didn’t think Rob was looking very “on” at all, even before he screwed up & damaged HHH. I liked the “Spiderman” move, but otherwise I wasn’t very excited with him.

Jericho looked to me to be having a pretty good night. He seemed to be doing a really good job, especially helping reorganize things after HHH got hurt. He was the first one to get thrown through the “bullet-proof plexiglass”, & I couldn’t tell if it was planned or not.

Remind me to rant about Booker T stopping in the middle of a match to do the Spinaroonie. That is just ludicrous.

I figured Shawn was going to be the one that I was going to worry about getting damaged, but he seemed to come out of it OK. There were a couple of things that looked kinda strange (like the pedigree right near the end, that he landed almost on his side), but some of that may just be the adaptations they've worked out because of his back.

And then there’s HHH. If I haven’t been worried enough about people getting hurt all night, he gets badly damaged a whopping 12 minutes into a 40 minute match. I don’t know what they would have done if he had been in worse trouble (not that it wasn’t bad enough), but Vince had to be going crazy back in the control room. HHH was clearly in big trouble throughout the rest of the match. (Now we know, but even just watching it, you could tell that it was something bad.) But he hung in, & kept showing up for his spots. He let Kane chokeslam him, of all things! I don’t even have words to express how impressed & amazed I am that he kept going. And doing most (I’m guessing) of what they had planned.

So, what did I think of the event overall? I think it would have been excellent, if it weren’t for all the injuries. Its just terribly unfortunate that so much of that sort of thing happened. (Maybe once I know that my boy really-really is OK, I’ll be able to watch it again.) It had to have been the full moon.

(Is it possible for me to talk about a PPV without getting so long-winded? Apparently not.)

Oh, I forgot about the old-fashioned entranceway and no Titantron! What WAS that about? I thought I was having a flashback to 1997, or something. I can't remember the last time they didn't have a stage at a PPV.

It occurred to me while watching the show that the Elimination Chamber probably cost so damn much to build that WWE had to economize somewhere. ;-)

Do they ever have a formal stage-with-a-ramp type thing at the Madison Square Garden PPV's? I've got Royal Rumble 2000 on tape, and they had almost the same setup, except there was the back end of a cab dangling outta somewhere. I think Wrestlemania X had something similiar, with the opening door that was crossed with the X? I vaguely remember something for one of the SummerSlams too - there was a screen that silhouetted the wrestler before he came out, then that door came out. I can't remember the year of it, even, but it just really really really reminds me of the scene in Austin Powers 2 when they introduce Mini-Me. But yeah, it looks weird with no staging, but I think I kinda like it.

I didn't see the show except for what they showed on RAW of the EC, but it seems like it was a pretty good time. What was up with HBK's tights? The stills made it look like black leggings under short trunks, but I couldn't tell if they were DX-ish trunks or what. I was looking forward to some good old fashioned zebra-striped goodness :(

Regarding the entranceway, I had a couple of thoughts:

-- They may have had some weird constraints about ring positioning within the building, based on the mechanics of suspending the whacking-huge, heavy Chamber above the ring.

-- They certainly were able to get more seats -- particularly high-priced, close-up seats -- in with this configuration. That's more revenue for WWE & a plus for some of the fans (who were able to get the freed-up close seats). However, it was probably worse for most of the audience.

Dunno. It kept making me think of Lucha Libre -- they set their cameras opposite their entrance ramp. Not what I would think of as a role model for the WWE. :-)

The chamber itself was pretty purty -- they did a very nice job of design & construction. They're clearly going to use that structure again -- there are all sorts of possibilities for it that they didn't even get into. (I vehemently hope they don't get into using it every damn PPV though!) I wonder if we've seen the last of the HIAC-style cage -- if so, the Taker/Brock match would be a pretty decent retirement for it.

Regarding the "Ding-dong, Triple H is hurt!" party going on over in the main forum ... I'm pretty disgusted with some of them over there. The usual level of basHHHing gets pretty tiresome, but fuckin'-A, the guy is seriously hurt, couldn't breathe, & goes ahead & does his fucking job anyway for almost a half-hour, not getting any better as time passes. And he hasn't even decided yet whether he has a broken arm. And that bullshit reaction is what he gets for it. Fuck that. Naaaaawh... I'm not annoyed!
[End of venting mode -- thank you. ]

And completely off-topic (Well, other than MM missing Undertaker.), weren't we supposed to have seen Taker on the last Smackdown? And have we heard any updates on the pregnancy & Taker's real injuries? (If they include it in a plotline, I figure we're at least entitled to a status update in the Ross Report.)

I thought it was pretty good overall...I nearly fell off of the sofa when HBK won it all. (Although objectively, I would have liked to see Jericho take it). I worried about Shawn the whole night though.

I marked out when the Dudleys got back together, AND when Brock did the F5, AND when the Elimination Chamber was set in to place. That was a nice structure. As much as I hate Bichoff on TV, I would have loved to have seen him in character, whimpering as the 'bullet-proof, plexiglass' plates were shattered.
Ana, I never noticed the Flair-Dustin Hoffman resemblance before. BUT, when Flair cuts and his hair gets bloody, he's a spitting image of Heat Miser from "Year without a Santa Claus."

Well, no one ever said I had a GOOD memory...gosh, I'm not sure. *scratches head* Must watch tapes.

HBK's tights: I dunno. He used to have a real fashion sense! That odd brown hue, those clumsy appliques...bad, bad. Once he had the chaps and vest off, I wondered what thrift store he'd wandered out of!

As for Taker, Mrs. Taker and Li'l Calaway, I have not heard jack. *True* jack, that is--various jokers looking for attention keep posting to claim Taker was here or there or is now a new father. I have no idea if Sara can start her ab-tightening exercises yet (man, YOU try carrying the child of a man that large! My biggest baby was only 8.5 pounds! I feel for the woman.)

Well, no one ever said I had a GOOD memory...gosh, I'm not sure. *scratches head* Must watch tapes.

Don't worry, no one ever said my memory's anything to write home about, either. I just had watched RR2K a couple of weeks ago [after the PSU/OSU game, I needed random acts of violence on my screen]. I remembered it was from MSG, especially after someone on the main board said Jeff did the Swanton from the same entrance as he had 2 years ago. So that's my only frame of reference, and my brother has all the other tapes... but if they don't have staging for even the RAWs and Smackdowns they tape at MSG, I'd go towards Emma's theory of building codes/getting more seats.

ha!!! HBK-thrift store look - not working for 5 years must put a crimp in the ol' pocketbook. I remember seeing something on Confidential about the sisters who used to design all his tights... I really hope this wasn't their idea, cause I liked the stuff they used to do.
