What are some wrestlers who showed a lot of promise when they began, but never lived up to their potential?

My pick goes to Jon Nord, who was billed as a future superstar when he made his debut as "The Barbarian" in the 1980s. After leaving Mid-South, he wound up in the AWA teaming with Bruiser Brody [and began to imitate Brody from then on]. I didn't see him again until he became "The Berzerker" and dead-ended in the WWF. Aside from that brief tag team with Barry Darsow in WCW, I haven't seen him since.

He was a lot of fun to watch as "The Barbarian." Nord was a big guy but could really move. He just never seemed to get that monster heel push.

Hmm, I never knew of Nord being called the Barbarian.

Did he have to change to the Berzerker because Sionne already had the Barbarian name taken in the WWF?

No matter how bad things may get, just imagine what would happen if Vince Russo was booking again, and you will feel better.

John Nord was widely known as "Nord the Barbarian" in his early days. Check out the Rookie of the Year Awards for PWI and you can see he won one as Nord the Barbarian

I remember back in the day thinking that Buff Bagwell had superstar written all over him. Then he turned into a jackass...

I agree with the conventional wisdom that said Bagwell would have been a mega star face when he came back from the broken neck...except for those magic words.

If they had booked it correctly.

My vote would be for Buddy Landell.

Personally I thought Brian Clarke was a pretty good power guy when he was Adam Bomb and then Wrath, even got some good crowd response when he had a pretty good streak going at on point. I even knew some fans that actually thought he would win World War 3 one year. Then they teamed him with Brian Adams and the rest is history...

The WWF would probably say Billy Gunn, but I say that's bullshit.

Bagwell is a good pick, I alwasy thought he'd do better.

I've got a couple
Chris Candino
Bam Bam Bigelow
Jeff Jarrett
The Big Show

That's a good question, I'll have to think on that one.

I'll second a vote for Bam Bam Bigelow. I think he could have been much bigger than he ended up being.

And to go with the Kronik theme... I think Brian Adams could have been much bigger than he turned out to be. When he wanted to Adams could do some pretty good stuff, I just don't think he worked hard enough to reach his potential.

And then there's the obvious...Scott Norton. Go forth to the Scott Norton love thread for more Norton Fandom!

I also think Shane Douglas could've been big if used right in the WWF or WCW. Of course he was injured most of his WCW career so it wasn't really their fault. Towards the end of WCW when he did that promo about Flair i was excited that they were headed towards a Flair/Douglas feud. But it never happened.

I also liked Candido for the short time he was in WCW, didn't see any of his time in ECW and when he was in WWF he was just a Bodydonna.

I wouldn't really say Jarrett and Big Show, as much as the others. Even though they could both be even bigger than they are, they have both done really well.

And of course there is Scotty Anton

Perry Saturn gets my vote right now. He was part of the best tag team on the planet with The Eliminators. He was great in the Flock and put on a tag team clinic with Raven, Benoit and Malenko. Then he goes to the WWF and becomes George the Animal Steele Part 2. Someone give him a tag partner fast!

My pick? Blitzkrieg. A cruiserweight in the old WCW, he was attracting quite a decent fan following. I looked forward to watching all of his matches.

And then... he just disappeared. I assume WCW fired him. But anyway, haven't heard from him since, which is a damn shame, because he was fun as hell to watch.
