Quick question for any leafs fans out there. I keep reading in the papers that everyone but Darcy Tucker is pissed at Shane Corson and the leafs want to get rid of him. Anyone know what happend that made them all hate him?

I heard last season we was shtupin the CityTV sports girl, kathrine humphries (lucky dog) think that has anything to do with it?

OK, I'm gonna ramble here, so bear with me...

(Deep breath)

Basically, the Leaf dressing room had cliques over the years. There was a clique with Yuskevich and other Russians and a clique with Corson, Domi, Tucker and Travis Green, just to name 2. Mats Sundin is kind of a neutral guy. The guy whom everyone looked up to and was the biggest locker room presense was Gary Roberts. Roberts didn't take any shit and was seen as the guy to pull everyone together. When other guys, most notably Corson, pushed their way around and wanted things his way, Roberts would stand up to him (Sundin was seen as a leader too, but not really an enforcer). Well, Roberts is out with a shoulder injury, so now the dominant personality is Corson, who 10 years ago was a hell of a power forward, but pretty much is a 3rd line checker being paid like a 1st liner. Corson and Tucker are seen as whiny, yappy and out for themselves and not a lot of people like him on the team and in the league. An example of what a dick he can be is when he went into Pat Quinn's office, behind everyone's back, and lobbied to get himself put on the 1st line and have Jonas Hoglund off, who at the time had more goals than him. I don't know about him sleeping with Kathyrn Humphries. I do know she's sleeping with Craig Billington (backup goalie to the Caps).

It's funny that the Sports Illustrated article about them has come out now about them being whiners, primarily Corson, Tucker and Domi (by the way, Corson and Domi are seen as the leaders, Tucker is a follower). The Leafs have been like this for a while now, it's just now that people are calling them on it cause they are losing. In a way, though, it's hard to blame them for being arrogant, cause they are treated like kings here. I've lived in T.O. all my life and grew up a Leaf fan, until '92, when I realize all their fans were idiots and whiners (Please shut up about Kerry Fraser). The difference was, at that time, they had some class guys, like Gilmour, Andreychuk and Wendell Clark. Toronto will always worship the Leafs and because of that, the guys who play for them will always have that ego. Darcy Tucker made the point of how complete strangers will come up to them and hug them just because their Leafs. A broadcaster for TSN made a comment that every Leaf was more popular than Vince Carter (which is ludicrous, but not that far off from the truth). Curtis Joseph, a goalie who appears in less Stanley Cups than Arturs Irbe, Chris Osgood, Ed Belfour and Kelly Hrudey, is was seen as a god here and a sure-fire hall of famer. Basically, there's a huge arrogance in the organization and Corson is sort of the figurehead of that.

By the way, Storm's gimmick includes 1.) telling the audience to shut up, and 2.) occasionally making everyone stand for the Canadian national anthem. You know they don't know what to do with a wrestler when he's making fans stand for a national anthem. It's like waving a white flag and saying, "This guy has no personality -- we give up."

I Think as a whole the problems are much deeper then Corson or the other two. The team lacks chemistry, talent and most of all, they are far from young. It is time to demolish and rebuild that team.

I would agree with you Socks, only because I fear the Leafs turning into the next New York Rangers.

However, rebuild with what? The only players they have who would fetch considerable value (prospects or high draft picks) are Sundin, McCabe, Kaberle and (for whatever reason) Antropov. Roberts might get a decent return, but his age would probably scare teams away. Corson is worthless due to his contract, and the same goes with Robert Reichel, who would be worthless even without his outrageously overpriced contract.

In the system, there is even less. Brad Boyes could turn out to be a decent NHL player, but he certainly can't be called can't-miss. Same can be said for Colaiacovo. Mikael Tellqvist has shown promise recently in St John's, but he hasn't yet become the player the Leafs were hoping he would be.

If they were to tear apart this team and start anew, the process would be extremely long and arduous. The Leafs would probably be among the worst in the league for quite a few seasons.

Don't know what the answer is, but damn, wouldn't Danny Markov look good on the Leafs blue line right now?

Worst. Trade. Ever.

DirtyMikeSeaver...

I agree with your analysis, except for the part about Doug Gilmour being a class guy. I love the guy for what he did for the Leafs, but there was hardly a bigger weasel in the NHL.

Also, don't forget the fact that Ken Dryden and Pat Quinn hate each other. Also, the Leafs will never become the new Rangers because the owners are cheap.

I was born in a manger, like that other guy. You know, he wore a hat?

Well, the Hawks eclipse the Bruins' futility in winning a cup. If memory serves me correct(not that I'm that old), the Hawks last won in 1960, so they are 44 seasons and counting.
