The Michaels/Hart feud leading up to Wrestlemania, Shawn's first title reign, and for some reason, Steve Austin Pillmanizing Pillman's ankle. There were still a lot of stupid angles going around at that time, like the wrestling plumber and the Goon, but Shawn and a few others were able to keep me glued to RAW every Monday Night. Ahhh, the memories of Vince with that hillariously overacted intro ... welcoming us to MOOOOOONDAAAAAAY NIIIIIGHT RAAAAAAWWWWWW!!!

Recently, I've gotten my girlfriend interested in wrestling (completely against her will, but it's working :)). I'd have to say what started was reading Mic Foley's autobiography, and showing her the Thirteen Chair Shots of Doom from Royal Rumble '99 sealed it. She's also a big fan of Edge and Rey Rey, for obvious reasons.

My friend Rocky, who was a journalist and made of money, used to come up to stay with me on weekends (because his town was a bit "aged" in population). From Friday night 'til Sunday evening, we'd drink and talk, and he'd tell me stories about Mick Foley, Jericho and Ralphus (Jericho's 1,004 moves, Jericho having Juvy's mask and Dean Malenko's dignity, Jericho yelling, "I'm 4-0 against you, Greenberg!"), Stone Cold, the Rock, Ric Flair, etc. Eventually some of it sank in.

Around this time, I was living alone in a dorm room that looked like a modernist nightmare version of Hitler's bunker on a toadstool stem, and because of the asinine French-architect layout of the place, TV reception was terrible. Fox came in all right, but it was useless to watch unless it was Sunday night. The only channel that had any clarity was UPN.

I'd do my school reading during the day, and watch the one hour of Simpsons and one hour of Seinfeld from 6 to 8 on UPN. On Thursdays, Smackdown would come on afterward. One day, all of Rocky's anecdotes weighed down upon me, and I just watched it. I gave in. And, once I was hooked, I had to see how it ended. They just won't finish the damn story!

So I like wrestlng by accident that became habit. I can't say that I would be watching today if someone had told me, "You have to make a conscious decision: yes or no, are you a wrestling fan?" Instead, sloth and my propensity to sit on a couch — with my legs on an end table, having a few beers and smoking, from dinnertime onward — wordlessly made that decision for me.

I still want to know how it turns out in the end.
