Maybe it was just me, but when Bischoff killed the IC title there seemed to be some sort of "vibe" that it might be back via some kind of angle.

Had anyone else heard this, or seen some kind of posting about it elsewhere on the net?

I'd hate to think that it's gone for good...

The reason that you (and many other people) would have gotten that impression is that when they melded the I.C. Title into the World Title, Bischoff wasn't really all that clear on what would happen. In the promo, Bischoff mentioned that Kane/HHH would be "Winner Take All" and there was some speculation as to what that would mean. Did it mean that HHH would hold the World AND I.C. Titles as two seperate entities, or would it mean that the I.C. Title would be absorbed into the World Title.

Obviously, the WWE had meant the second option. I don't see the I.C. Title coming back, and if it did, it wouldn't be any time soon. I think that they're fairly happy with 3 Belts (The World, Tag, and Cruiserweight/Women's) on each show.

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Vikings (2-6) - Um...yeah. Way to go Defense? Never mind...
Badgers (6-5) - Slipping into mediocrity six weeks in a row.
Buffy 7.Uhh Whatever this last one was earns a 7.00000314159 because the begining was terrible, but the meat of the episode was hillarious. But filler. Just like most of Season One...Is this some kind of whacky time warp?

I get the impression that when they finally (either)divide into 2 "seperate" entities or ditch the split and bring them all back under one name you'll see the IC title back pretty quiickly. There's just too much talent out there to have no mid-carder championship.

I think it makes sense for Stephanie to revive it on Smackdown, mostly out of spite. (Exactly how she does this isn't coming to me, but since when do WWE storylines need to make much sense?). Then Bischoff could revive the WCW US title in retaliation, and that would feed nicely into the RAW is Nitro storyline you just know is coming one of these days.

They could revive the IC belt anytime they wanted to. After all, when the WWF and WCW titles were unified, it was supposedly forever yet Bischoff had no problem resurrecting the WCW Belt (which may or may not be the WCW Title but it is definitely the belt) even though it was supposed to be gone forever. And Miknight is right--if they ever recombine and reunify the belts, they'll be left with World, Tag team, CruiserWeight and Women's Titles. That's not enough. As for how Stephanie could revive the IC Belt, she could say (rightfully enough) that Benoit never got a rematch for it after losing it to RVD at SummerSlam. She could also say that if it was her, she would never have killed the title off. Thus, she could either award it to Benoit and let him feud over it with Eddie, Chavo, Edge, Rey, Angle, etc. That, or she could just create a tournament for it.

Eep. Given a choice between simply awarding the I-C Title to Benoit and holding a tournament for it, I'd go with the tournament! Last thing we need is another guy being awarded a title by a general manager. After all, we can't have Triple H compared to Chris Benoit in any way, shape or form.

Okay, I'm off the Triple H-bashing vibe, so I hope this thread doesn't turn into yet another HHHaters thread. Anyway...

The reason Bischoff brought back the WCW Title, of course, was because WWE Undisputed Champion Brock Lesnar was signed to an exclusive SmackDown contract by Stephanie. Because the Undisputed Champion was supposed to appear on both shows, Bischoff cried foul and stripped Lesnar of the WCW Title. (Theoretically, he had all the power in the world to do that, being the highest-ranking former WCW official in WWE.) My point is that it wasn't too much of a stretch to dispute the title, because otherwise RAW would be without the opportunity to ever reclaim the Undisputed Title, since no one other than a SmackDown Superstar would ever get a chance at it.

The I-C Title? Eh... Darryl's idea about Stephanie reviving it because Benoit never got a rematch with RVD is a bit of a stretch. SummerSlam was four months ago after all, and the I-C Title never was meant to be defended on both shows. Therefore, Stephanie's logic would seem to be slightly flawed.

Of course, this is WWE, and they might revive the I-C Title as early as this coming SmackDown because some guy out in Nigeria got trampled by an elephant as he was going to get a banana from a fruit cart. My point is, WWE doesn't fully rely on logic in their storylines, to put it mildly. (Although they are getting better recently!)
