Well there's already Overlooked N64 and Playstation threads, and me being the rip-off thread starter that I am, (See my ripping off favorite X-Pac moment, with my favorite Paul Wight moment thread) I decided to start a Overlooked Genesis Games thread. I'll start it off with my two.

Skitchin - I'm not the guy who likes all these extreme sports like surfing, and skating, and blading and boarding or whatever they are called, but this game ruled! And as far as I know it wasn't exactly the most widely known game, atleast none of my friends have heard of it. For those of you who don't know what it is, you're a skater, and you're in a giant race with other skaters and if you win you get money and that sort of thing. But you're racing on a street with traffic, so you can grab onto the back of cars and they can speed you up. You can even grab onto back of police cars for bonus points but you can get busted because Skitchin is illegal.

Shining Force - I always loved this game, and I don't really have that great of a reason. It was just fun.

THAT IS AWESOME!

Add Shining Force 2 to that list

Phantasy Star IV cost waaaaayy too much back in the day, but it was pretty damn awesome

Sonic Pinball didn't get the love it deserved.

Haunting was a fun little game. You play a ghost (with a terrible haircut) trying to scare an evil family out of your pad.

I thought Beyond Oasis was a fun little Zelda clone

Shadowrun was awesome on Genesis. The SNES version came out around the same time. It was completely different, but great as well.

As crappy as Road Rash got, the first couple games were fun.

Eternal Champions was a fun little fighter, with a lot of cool, varied characters. The story was that they were all dead and fighting for a second chance at life.

edit: took out the word "costed". I'm retarded sometimes.

Mega Bomberman: It's very difficult to make a bad Bomberman game. (Interplay, bless 'em, managed the feat.) This is one of the best -- a direct port of "Bomberman '94" from the PC-Engine (TurboGrafx/16 stateside).

Flicky: Old-school arcade action, surprisingly addictive.

Gunstar Heroes: Pure side-scrolling shoot-em-up adrenaline.

Wonder Boy in Monster Land: A very nice action-exploration adventure, and the best of the Wonder Boy series.

Darwin 4081: Japan-only vertical shooter with an entertaining powerup system -- your ship was alive, and "evolved" when it caught certain capsules. Multiple upgrade paths gave it some replay value. The arcade original is in MAME.

Dragon's Fury was better on the TurboGrafx as "Devil's Crush," but Dragon's Revenge was only on the Genesis. Pretty good monster-themed pinball.

Can't go wrong with the Thunder Force series (2, 3, and Lightening Force[sic]).

I have a strange soft spot for Mega Turrican, which was sort of a low-rent level-based Metroid.

Good luck finding Panorama Cotton.

Soldiers of Fortune was a nice little Contra knockoff by the Bitmap Brothers.

Volfied was a Qix sequel, and not a bad one.

And I always thought Zoom! was rather fun, but that might just be me.

I don't know how overlooked it was, but Coach K's College Basketball is still one of the best basketball games ever made, IMHO.

You guys already mentioned my favorite games.

Shining Force was one of the best RPGs ever. I especially love the werewolf character.

Eternal Champions is a really great fighting game. Especially the Sega CD version with all the fatalities. I loved the chick who could telport and through darts.

NBA Jam rocked the arcades, the home version was great also.

Do yourselves a favor and pick up a Sega Six-Pack game today. Streets of Rage, Revenge of Shinobi, Columns, Streets of Rage, Sonic the Hedgehog and Golden Axe. It's an excellent, excellent compilation.

Sonic Mega Collection should be good. It's a collection of Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D Blast, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, and 5 hidden games coming out for GameCube. I heart it's really good and the special features are supposed to be really cool.

Can't go wrong with Sonic 2

A lot of my favorite overlooked games have been mentioned already (Lightening Force, Shining Force, PS4), but I've got to mention a couple of Japan only games that completely rocked my world.

Alien Soldier: This was Treasure's follow-up to the excellent Gunstar Heroes. It featured a lot of one-on-one encounters against giant bosses. Their weak spots were clearly pointed out to you, but the trick was to just GET your shots past the enemy's defenses.

Gley Lancer: A side-scrolling space shooter from NCS/Masaya (known for making Warsong in the US). Though the graphics weren't the greatest, the music was absolutely outstanding and the gameplay wasn't bad either. It falls a little short of the Standard set by Thunderforce 3, but still goes far beyond any similar game on the system.

Pulseman: I can't say enough about this one. It's a platformer where you're trapped inside your computer by your own creation. However, the computer has turned you into the superhero known as Pulseman, and you use various Electricity based powers to work your way through the various worlds inside the machine. The levels are ingeniously devised around the use of your powers, and the graphics are some of the best seen on the system.

There are so many other games I could mention that DID get released over here, as well, but this post is getting pretty lengthy as it is.

One of the humanity's greatest crimes is not continuing the Mutant League series! I heard some rumors on there being one on the PS2 a looong time ago, but nothing ever came of it to my knowledge.

Considering the sway towards more "mature" gaming, I think EA's missing out (Don't know if they own the rights, but they did publish the series.)

It was on the Genesis (or Megadrive over here) that the FIFA games really started to get noticed and became the top title for football games from 1995 to 2001 (Pro Evolution).
