I don't know why, but this guy really pisses me off. Today he bashed the "smart marks:"

From here.

In an interview today, I was asked about "smart marks" on the Internet -- isn't that an oxymoron, like "celibate priest" or a "broad-minded Jerry Falwell?" While there are a few who try hard to be journalists, there are many who just want to be heard, probably because they are computer-loving geeks who don't have an athletic bone in their bodies and are mad at the world. They probably had their lunch money stolen by some big guy when they were young, and this is their way of "striking back."

I went on to explain that I once saw an Internet report about a match Cactus Jack was in. The report was in great detail, and then at the end, the report said that the best thing had happened: Apparently Cactus got close enough and the "reporter" got to touch Cactus. Can't you just see John Madden describing Ray Lewis and then smiling real big and announcing that when Mr. Lewis went through the tunnel Madden was able to reach out and touch him? Don't see it happening.

So when you see a report on the Internet, consider the source. Some of these guys make the rest look really bush league, and if you are one of the guys who gets hot about this then obviously I am talking about you, you wannabe geek.

Yes, it IS Bradshaw. The guy that gets called a rapist, an asshole, a closet case and all sorts of other crap whenever his name gets brought up anywhere on the internet.

I'm no fan of Bradshaw, and I certainly don't mind not having him on my t.v., but why SHOULD he look at the internet community in a favorable light when an unconfirmed rumor about hazing and baby oil has been made into gospel on it?

Smart marks or no, Bradshaw's still not over. Even his "rant" wasn't entertaining. I hope he used his vaunted investing skills and sunk all his dough in Enron.

Here's an idea, maybe he should not be bragging in one of his columns on how he took a crap in sable's bag because he didn't like her. Hey I'm no Sable fan either but as an ADULT there are other avenues to go you know maybe giving someone the cold shoulder. But taking a dump in there bag would not be one of my options.

Sometimes bad things happen to good/ decent people and that sucks. But sometimes bad things happen to bad people and I call it Karma baby. This guys a Grade A jerk, everything you mentioned he is. I think he feels important making rookies lives miserable and harassing women and he can get a one way ticket to hell for all I care. There's a few wrestlers that I'm not a fan of watching but this guy (and a 1 or 2 others, Nash comes to mind) is really in a class (or is that classless) by themselves. I'm for one is glad I don't need the see this bastard on TV.

Who is he picking on, this guy should write on this board with his paint brush generalization then covering his ass by saying "there's some good ones out there"... Also pisses the hell out of me when I hear wrestlers (and other athletes) use the "You never been in the ring/ field, so you can't real comment". As a fan we don't have the right to judge? So because I never had a chef degree I can't say that my meal sucked in an expensive restaurant.

Oh yeah P.S. picking on priests didn't get you over at all in the beginnings of the split so it's not going to help now funny guy. Remember that Bradsh*t how you were given a huge push along side Steve Austin and failed miserably... One huge mystery is why is this guy employed for SO LONG and still have a job?

Don't really know if going into detail here is the right place because we all know a wrestling messageboard is no place for wild speculation and innuendo

This is truly saddening. The big difference between John Madden and your average internet writer is that Madden gets to see these football players every single freaking week! How excited could he get? Consider your internet writer is a fan and a passionate one at that. What does he expect will happen when we get close to one of our idols? Personally, I might very well plotz should I get close enough to Molly Holly, but I've said too much already...

Way to crap on your fans Bradshaw. Go haze another referee!

So the WWE's answer to the West Texas Rednecks went off on "smart marks"? I guess we can put this up there with the Chris Jericho rant a few months ago, but there's a difference between the two.

Chris Jericho had good reason to vent. He takes his craft very seriously and when he sees some geek say "worst match ever", I totally understand why he'd get pissed. It wasn't the 5-star match he said it was, but such criticisms weren't justified.

Bradshaw also takes his craft seriously, but he's going off on critics in a more tactless manner. And believe me, Bradshaw should be the LAST ONE to be going off on critics. Bradshaw going off on "smart mark" critics for his wrestling is like Eddie Murphy going off on movie critics for "The Adventures of Pluto Nash".

Sorry, Bradshaw. You may be a HOSS, BY GAWD, but you haven't won yourself any fans with your rant.

"See Nash, you can wear any Halloween costume you want to, but you know and I know that you're only half the man that I am - and I have half the brain that you do."

Bradshaw's a joke and a jerk. When the fans were in the WWF's corner in 98 because they were putting on the best product around, they talked about how the "reacted to what the fans wanted" and "put on a show the fans wanted to see." When the Internet complains about how lousy the product is when some guy fucks a mannequin, we're a bunch of "smart marks" who "don't understand wrestling cause we've never been in the business."

Even Jericho's comments were bullshit. I've watch that match a bunch of times and it's no ****1/2 classic. It wasn't even the best match he's had with Van Dam. It was the best match on that card, though. But I hate to be the one to tell Jericho this, but the fans have a right to say if they think his match sucks. If they don't back up that argument with logic he can say there full of shit, but for him to condem the ENTIRE INTERNET WRESTLING COMMUNITY as a bunch of smart marks whose opinions don't matter because one person (who probably wasn't taken seriously by anyone to begin with) underrates his match is foolish and destorys his audience.

And I can't remember the last time Jericho was in a **** match anyway.

I read that commentary too, and that certainly wasn't bragging. Bragging would be saying "Yeah that Sable bag shit thing? All me." Did he hint that he may have been the one to do it? Yes, but he also flip flopped around on whether the event happened or didn't happen and whether or not it was him so many times that what he was trying to say basically hangs on your predetermined ideas about him. Someone who likes Bradshaw could take the argument that he was making fun of the rumors about him, for example. All of the other examples you mentioned are exactly what I was talking about: internet rumors that have become truth in people minds. You have no clue how he actually treats rookies or women, you just know what you read somewhere.

I think Bradshaw is not that a great wrestler. I think that his jokes suck, I certainly could care less if he's on tv or not, he's certainly not over outside of APA vignettes, and I'm willing to bet he still has a job because of company loyalty, financial advice, and nothing else; but if the man does a cool move in a match I'm rather talk about that than read a bunch of posts that say "ooo Kidman better watch out for baby oil", cuz that's just as childish as crapping in the bag of someone you don't like. Or even someone you do like; my friend Delong had his bag shit in as a practical joke on his way home from tour last week and it's still the grossest joke one of those dudes has pulled on each other in like a decade of gross jokes. And you certainly see worse things on Jackass.

The only reason I'm even defending him on this is because I tend to agree with what he said about the internet. Half the posts I read are bad jokes about events that no one knows if they happened or not and are used to justify not liking who the WWE is pushing or how the storylines are going. The simple fact is, making a joke about Bradshaw raping Shannon Moore as reasoning for not liking a match he's in is just as bad as Bradshaw making a joke about priests raping altar boys to try and get a cheap pop.

What is the world coming to when I'm writing this much about Bradshaw?

Honestly though, we're not looking at the big picture.

9/10ths of Wrestling "writers" on the Internet are jackoffs who don't know what the hell they're talking about. I'm one of them. I don't know ANYTHING about the preparation involved in pro-wrestling, nor what actually goes on backstage, nor how wrestlers/management actually feel about eachother.

I don't, and my guess is, unless you ARE a wrestler in the employ of the WWE, neither do you. So we write speculation peices (or in my case, humor columns) and we chit chat about angles and what not.

The question is, how seriously do we take ourselves? When dirt sheet writers report "NEWZ" that they heard fourth hand from a guy that may or may not have heard from his buddy who may or may not know a guy who met The Rock once that The Rock was going to quit wrestling and become a porn star, or that Scott Hall no-showed an NWA show because he was too drunk to remember where he left his "Kliq" tights...Then, yeah. Bradshaw's right the hell on.

He does admit that there are good writers out there, and there are. There are people who check and recheck their news stories to see if they are accurate. There are people who give honest quality opinions on matches (especially ones that don't show favoritizm to one wrestler or another, with the opposite being true, just because of who that wrestler is), but those people are few and far between, and if you take a look around the net, you'll see that we're innundated with shit wrestling sites and crappy "gimmick" writers who don't understand why they should like the product.

Go ahead and eliminate half the people that come to mind. Agree with them or not, the Keiths, the Meltzers, the CRZs, the Cubses generally know what they're talking about and why they're doing it. But they're a small minority of the overall "Smark" community, or rather the community which calls themselves smart.

As he said, consider the source. I'm not a lucha fan, so if you read a review I've written about Lucha, you can expect that I'll downgrade it to below what it actually is. But if you took my word as bond, you'd think that Lucha was crappy. It's not. But I don't like it.

Keith HATE HATE HATED Rock v. Hogan. Does that mean it wasn't a good match? Noooo. It doesn't.

So maybe Bradshaw's pissed off that nobody likes RAW, or that nobody likes him. Maybe you don't like him. But, that doesn't necessarily mean he's wrong.

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Vikings (2-6) - Um...yeah. Way to go Defense? Never mind...
Badgers (6-4) - Umm...Still over .500...Yeah...
Buffy 7.Uhh Whatever this last one was earns a 7.00000314159 because the begining was terrible, but the meat of the episode was hillarious. But filler. Just like most of Season One...Is this some kind of whacky time warp?

The problem is there is no "legitimate" wrestling media. You couldn't even really Dave Meltzer legit, although he's the closest thing. Until the local papers start having a wresting section, the only thing for wrestling fans obsessed for finding news will be the "Internet Wrestling Scene."

Real sports have Sports Illustrated, ESPN and the Sports section of the paper, and Hollywood has Entertainment Weekly and Inside Edition. But wrestling only has what can be found on the Internet to help its fans relate to the product. If the Internet Wrestling Scene were to disappear, there would be less places for wrestling fans to learn about and appreciate this form of entertainment, and by proxy a lot less fans.

For example, I started to fall away from wrestling right before I went to college, but when I got on rsp-w (this was in 1995) and found the stuff by Herb Kunze & KJP (as well as the ECW Mutants I guess), I learned how to enjoy/appreciate wrestling, and I haven't looked back.
