Has anyone else seen the video for Cochise, the new Audioslave song? You can see it (in various streaming formats) at Audioslavemusic.com.

IT ROCKS.

That's one of the most awesome videos I've seen in a long time, and by far one of the best "live" format shoots ever.

I guess I'm the Audioslave mark in here by default, so here is the lowdown on the video.

It took three days to shoot. I believe the firework portion was done in two nights, and the intro "with the truck and going up the elevator" done the last night. People actually called the police thinking that terrorists were attacking when the fireworks went off. Funny shit.

BTW, the album comes out on the 19th. 15 DAYS! I'm stoked.

Also, I managed to get a copy of the unreleased album, and Cochise is really not the best representation of the groups works. When the CD comes out, check out Set It Off, or Light My Way.

I can't wait until the album comes out. How did you manage to get a copy of the unreleased album? I've been trying to find tracks on KaZaa but it's next to impossible to find good quality copies. I CAN wait until the 19th, but I'd rather hear some of it now! :-)

Okay I saw the video earlier today and I have a dumb question.

Isn't Audioslave just the remaining members of Rage Against The Machine plus Chris Cornell?

Song's awesome, but the video...eh. It's good upon first view, but probably won't hold up. But then again, I'm hard to please with vids.

I hear that it was in alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.complete_cd this weekend.

Your analogy is similar to:

"They already have cars that you can drive, why not blenders?"
"I can already write with my hands, why not my pancreas?"
"They already have beef that I can eat, why not granite?"

-- my new favorite quote from Slashdot comments.

I *love* it. So simple yet visually appealing. I'm not big on music videos these days because of the sex pushing, the boring green screen treatment, special effects. I'm big on simple videos that accent a song. Highly recommend seeing this video.

Yep, which means you have Cornell - the grunge movement's greatest singer/songwriter, collaborating with Tom Morello - the best damn guitarist to come around in the last ten years or so.

"But the funniest thing was, when I was leaving the bay
I saw three ships a-sailin', and they were all headed my way
I asked the captain what his name was, and how come he didn't drive a truck
He said his name was Columbus, I just said 'Good luck'. "

The bad thing is that I don't have a news server and I can't seem to find a free one with binary access, so I can't access that group.

I *think* I found most of the songs on Kazaa, but we'll see once they are done downloading...

Question: I downloaded "Hypnotize" and it sounds like a dance number. Well, sort of. Cornell is singing all low and stuff, and I can't really tell if it ever becomes Audioslave. Does the chorus say "oh no, don't you keep your good luck to yourself?" Cuz if this is Audioslave, it's far different than the rest of the stuff I've heard.

The video is cool.
I love the fact that Chris is already standing there and the RatM guys come over and join him.

This is also the first time I heard a song by them and when the riff kicked in, all I thought was..
"wow, a soundgarden melody played through Morello's pedals"
and that is NOT a bad thing!!
And if you like this video for its simple depiction of a band playing their song, how about 'I Am Mine' by Pearl Jam, where they just stand in the studio playing the song. In fact, I think it is 'live' even and not the completed album version of the song.

I thought Pearl Jam quit making videos.

Where did you see it?

It was on Dutch music channel last week.
It was them playing the song in a studio, but it was presented as an true video instead of a 'behind the scenes at the PJ album' thing.

I doubt it. The only recent time I can think of where they did something like that was Radiohead, and that was a #1 album with a lot of buzz behind it. Since I've always gotten the impression the video channels are trying to force Pearl Jam out as irrelevant, again, I doubt it.

The Audioslave video is A #1 and the BEST. If I ever get in a music video, God DAMN, I want it to be on top of a skyscraper with fireworks going off behind me. So many awesome visuals in that video.

On Heat, I saw a few seconds of the "I Am Mine" video during the commercial for "Riot Act". That was awesome.

The funny thing about the Audioslave record is that is sounds like an updated version of a 70's monster rock album. Several friends of mine have pointed out that it's like an updated version of Led Zep or Creedence Clearwater Revival, and I can totally see where they are coming from. The soaring vocals and repeated guitar bombs are very similar to the stuff done by the rock gods of the 70's.

It's an amazing record -- probably one of the best (if not THE best) of the year, and I really enjoy the rock and roll goodness that permeates every corner of it. There's a CD store around the corner that breaks street dates by a week at a time, so I'm going to go over there tonight and pick it up, even though I have all the songs already. It's only right to support a band that puts out music this good.
