Eliminating the big 3 stooges (Vince Russo, Arquette, and Vince McMahon), who were the worst world champions of the big 3. My selections:
WWF/E: In a close contest over Stan the Man Stasiak, Kane wins the worst world champ award. Not only was it only a one day reign, but no one even remembers the match from the PPV where he won it. The legacy of the PPV is the Foley bump, most people probably believe that was the main event of the card, not Kane/Austin first blood.
AWA: In a narrow victory over Mr. Saito, Otto Wanz gets the dubious distinction. Not only was he awful, but he leased the belt from Verne Gagne.
NWA/WCW: So many to choose from, but I narrow it down to Tommy Rich and Ron Garvin. While Tommy did suck it up to become champ, Rugged Ron wins the destinction of worst champ based on the fact that he was considered a joke, and his two month reign resulted in no one facing him for the belt because they knew his championship was a farce.

I want you to know, I agree with everything I've just said.

I'd say the worst WWE champion was Andre The Giant due to his 2-minute reign. You should also list who the worst ECW champion was too. I don't think I'd be qualified to judge anything aside from WWE so I won't bother.

WWE? Easy! Has to be Pedro Morales. Dont know why, but it just HAS to be! At least Stasiak spawned MEAT! LOL!

NWA/WCW HOw about DDP? He was boring, never had a really decent match, and annoyed the hell out of me by looking like he hadnt bathed in a month or so. Say what you will about Tommy Rich, but he had a better Title reigh than Kerry Von Erich.

AWA- Sure, Otto paid a couple of Gs to be champ. But, he didnt just become champ, and then just fade away, like LARRYLAND did at the end of the promotion. No opponents, no memorable matches, and, he pushed that LARRYLAND crap down our throats!

ECW? Oh I'll just say the Portugese Mon o' War himself, Justin Credible.

I'm just going to go with my era, from what I watched. Never watched AWA so I'll leave that out.

WWF it's between Kane and Big Show, Kane was a one day reign. Big Show was a last second substitution with no build. Both pathetic.

WCW- The Giant, congratulations Paul Wight you somehow pulled off being worst champ in both major Feds. Didn't he win it in his first match. Nothing reeks of lame then pushed in a World Title match as your first feud.

ECW- There's a lot to choose from. WHen I watched the dying days the TV title was where it's at and I couldn't care less for their world Title. I never liked Mike Awesome so I'll give him the dishonor.

Yeah, but his reign was over ruled, and never recognized. So the worst champ has to be a tie between Vince Russo and David Arquette. But if we are talking only about "real" wrestlers who won the belt, then I will go with Lex Luger. His first reign was taken up mostly by a loooong "haitus" to train for Sting, which was really just a ruse to cover up the fact that he was leaving WCW. His other reign lasted like a week or something.

Worst WWE champ has to be Vince Mcmahon. Again, if we go real wrestlers, then the worst WWE champion has to be Sgt. Slaughter.

I enjoyed DDP as champ. Don't know why, I just did. If they had given him the belt in 98 when he was the biggest face in WCW, he might have made more of a lasting impact.

I'll just judge WWE and WCW Champions, because those are the only two federations I ever really watched.

WWE: Ultimate Warrior. Cut promos that barely resembled an actual language. All his matches (save the heavily choreographed match with Hogan) usually consisted of clothesline, clothesline, clothesline, body splash, pin. In addition, he was the biggest prima donna in the history of the business, by a long shot. Say what you want to about Triple H (I certainly have), but he's not known for demanding to beat people in 45 seconds and refusing to sell any moves for them. Warrior did just that when he returned at WrestleMania (XI?) to defeat Helmsley. The fact that he was ever over is more a tribute to the stupidity of early 1990s wrestling fans than a tribute to Warrior's ability.

WCW: Gotta say The Giant here. I have to respectfully disagree with Eradicator when he said Lex Luger, because I remember how excited I was (and how excited everyone in the arena was) when Luger defeated Hogan in August of 1997. His reign did only last six days, but it was six days out of a year and a half when WCW was finally on top against the nWo.

Speaking as a stupid wrestling fan (started watching in 1987), Warrior was certainly the man up until he won the title. Then Hogan/Earthquake got the A-storyline push and Warrior didn't seem as cool anymore. His penchant for changing the color of his title belt from black didn't help matters (for me, anyway). Every time Warrior left and came back, he seemed less cool every time he returned. For the record, he returned at WrestleMania XII March 31st, 1996. That Mania is notable (to me anyway) for being the first one not to feature a single celebrity despite being in Hollywood's backyard in Anaheim.

Kevin Nash for both. Diesel was a DISASTER as WWF Champion for that year but it was nothing compared to Nash's first WCW World Title win. Beating Goldberg at Starrcade and then the one-finger push. That's gotta be the worst reign ever.

WWE: I won't say Vince, since at least his world title "reign" was handled as well as it could be under the circumstances. Nor will I say Kane -- a one-day world title reign is so stupid to begin with it would be impossible for even, say, Mick Foley to salvage the idea. No, it's the Big Show, who held the title for months while still being so un-over that he was defending it in the midcard. Honorable mention: Hogan circa 2002.

WCW: Arquette and Russo for non-wrestlers. For wrestlers, gotta go with Nash just because I hate wrestlers who book themselves into being champions.

ECW: You have to ask? Justin Credible. As nails in ECW's coffin go, Credible's run as world champ was a twelve-inch railroad spike.

As someone who grew up an AWA fan in Chicago (Promoter Bob Luce: "All roads lead to the Hammond Civic Center!"), I have to dispute the characterization of Otto Wanz.

The AWA championship had essentially been the property of Verne Gagne since 1960. He held the title virtually non-stop 1960-1968, winning the strap 9 times with brief interruptions by main opponents Mad Dog Vachon and the Crusher. Gagne exclusively held the title 1968-1975, until Nick Bockwinkel began his title reign in 1975. Bockwinkel's near 1975-1982 exclusive title run was only interrupted in 1980 when Gagne put the strap back on himself for his final "retirement run". So the AWA title had been held by essentially 2 men for 22 years.

As everyone probably knows, Hulk Hogan had been tearing the AWA up in the early-eighties, but Verne just refused to put the strap on him. He and Bockwinkel had one great match after the other (Heenan managing Bockwinkel bumped all over the place for Hogan), but they screwed Hogan every time. I was a huge Bockwinkel mark, but it drove Hogan out the door and into the arms of Vince Jr. Verne's inabilty to see the future doomed the AWA with Hogan, Jesse Ventura, Dr. Death Dave Schultz, Adrian Adonis, Ken Patera and Mean Gene Okerlund (Jesus, Vince even stole our announcers) bolting for the WWF.

With Hogan gone there was no clear threat to Bockwinkel (Verne even talked about coming out of retirement again--what a shock). Nick Bockwinkel was the classic heel. Everybody hated him and with Heenan at his side, they personified the dictionary definition of heat machine. It's almost impossible to describe how much heat Bockwinkel had on him in today's terms. Today there's no more kayfabe and everybody knows it's worked. But people hated Bockwinkel like they hate HHH today.

Well here comes Otto Wanz, a huge monster face German champ who everybody loved. He cut hilariously fun promos and he was physically huge. I mean here was a guy who could legitimately threaten Bockwinkel. I guess Verne thought he had to do something radical with everyone jumping ship, so he put the strap on Wanz. Well it was unbelieveable and everyone was very pumped up about it. The rematch was slated for October 9, 1982 at the Chicago Amphitheatre (now torn down), the home of the AWA in Chicago. The Amphitheatre was down on Halstead and even though it was past it's prime, it was a great arena (you were close to the action). The joint was sold out (9,000 plus) and completely rocking. The build-up to the match was great with all the AWA getting it done in the undercard (Bruiser, Crusher, Mad Dog Vachon, Baron von Rashce, Bobo Brazil and yes even favored son Greg Gagne and partner Jim Brunzell).

Bockwinkel and Wanz slowly came to the ring, each playing to the crowd. By the time the bell rang, the roof was ready to blow off. The intensity began to boil with a ton of false finishes. The building was packed and was rocking. Then out of nowhere Bockwinkel closed the deal on Wanz for the three count and the place EXPLODED. Bockwinkel and Heenan ran to the back as the Chicago crowd screamed for blood. My dad yelled, "there's gonna be a riot", and he grabbed me and my brother and rushed us to the parking lot as garbage and beer rained down all over the arena.

The AWA needed Wanz at that time and he was completely over with the fans. Bockwinkel figured in the title picture for a few more years, but with the WWF getting red hot, the AWA seemed to just limp along with Rick Martel, Curt Hennig, Jerry Lawler and Larry Zbyszko as champs. With the sudden mass exedous of main event talent to the WWF (Hogan, Ventura, Schultz, etc.) Gagne had 3 choices in mid-1982:

1) Give a 55 year old a run (Bruiser, Crusher, Bobo)
2) Put the strap on himself again (don't think it wasn't considered)
3) Go outside the promotion

Verne went with #3 and it proved to yield a hot program that ran 3 months or so. It might be funny in retrospect to bash Otto Wanz, but he got it done in the ring and on the stick, keeping AWA fans happy for a little while longer. Maybe redsoxnation wanted Verne to put the strap on Rock 'n Roll Buck Zuhmhoff.

I'll chime in with Dusty Rhodes for the worst WCW/NWA champion of all time. I hated him as a kid and I remember a title reign he had that lasted less than a week that I thought was the most pathetic thing I'd ever seen at that time.

Nash was the worst drawing champ in WWF history and then his WCW reign was a double-ended disaster so he's a hell of a pick.

I admit knowing zilch about the AWA, but isn't it a documented fact that Wanz paid Gagne to put the belt on him?

He did. Wanz, at the time, owned the biggest European promotion, so the title got exposure there too.

Giant Baba paid for the belt twice, with Jumbo Tsuruta and Stan Hansen.

Only answering for the WWF, the correct answer is Sgt. Slaughter. He was hated by the marks because of the cheap anti-US, pro-Iraq heat. He was hated by the smarts because he had little talent. He came out of nowhere to win the title. He couldn't even sell out by main eventing Wrestlemania 7. They had to move from the LA colliseum to a smaller arena. Flash in the Pan.
