Okay, here's a question I have been thinking about for a while.

Many video game reviewers and players talk about the game's engine. It was also recently brought up in regards to the Smackdown games on the PS 2 vs. the No Mercy game for the Nintendo 64.

So what exactly entails a game's engine? Is it the graphics, or sound, or a combination of things? Should I be looking for horsepower when I look at buying a game?

It's usually talking about the controls and style of gameplay. No Mercy is a more "realistic" game, with soft and strong grapples, and that kind of thing, while SmackDown's more "arcade-like" with its controls.

Nearly every gamer seems to praise the No Mercy engine as being god. Personally, I'm more partial to SmackDown, and even the Fire Pro games.

What "even"? The Fire Pro engine is as good as it gets. Very simple and easy-to-remember controls, letting you concentrate on execution and strategy instead of remembering move sequence. Massive character-creation depth. Wrestlers who move and look like the real thing. What's not to like?

Lemme rephrase - even compared to the No Mercy - meaning I'll take Fire Pro over No Mercy any day.

I still play Fire Pro D on my Dreamcast all the time.

i still say, fire pro 6 man scramble was their best game to date... nothing beats a 6 man battle royal with 5 of your friends w/ endless bear, pizza, and thrown controllers

I missed Raw, but I heard it rhymed with ass. I missed Smackdown too. It made me all shades of ambivalence. WWE is starting to suck again. The crops?

They're the same as the first game I think.

I had read that the controls were going to be changed. But they gave no details. I am hoping for a No Mercy style of game play.
