I think that the Democrats really dropped the ball on this way. The DFL blew a chance to seal the deal and instead wound up with something that was indeed more rally than memorial.
This will be an interesting excercise in who times it right. The Dems overplayed this and it backfired on them, but now the GOP risks overplaying the backlash, and having it backfire on them. It's now all a game of who's got the public sympathy on election day.

I still have not heard much GOP backlash on this (I have been a bit out of the loop in the last day, admittedly), but I did just hear parts of the memorial service... and talk about utterly disgusting. Who's idea was that? I mean, after all that talk about "Wellstone not being in the ground yet" by the Democrats... to pull something like that was very wrong... How are the GOP responding to this?
Besides, all that crap about the best way to pay tribute to him being electing a Democrat to his seat? That's not gonna help at all. Try electing an actual liberal.
HELP WHAT? Why should there be a call to elect a Democrat to serve "his memory?" I feel SORRY for Wellstone. There was no remorse at his memorial... the only thing Wellstone is good for now to the Democratic Party is a campaign point. It is pretty sad... How about talking about his accomplishments? His family? Instead, it was all about "Paul would have wanted us to WIN!" Like Wellstones entire life was one huge push for a Democratic victory in one campaign. Sad...
I guess being a Democrat for me just isn't what it used to be. I don't really care for their hemp or being anti-death penalty, but it's shit like this that makes me feel alright about being with the hippies.
Um, if Senator Wellstone was such the hero to Greens that this press release suggests, why the hell did they run someone against him?
See, this is the shit that makes me hate the Green party. I can understand running against a centrist candidate (say, Al Gore) in a tight race, risking throwing the election to the Republican to make a point or "advance democracy" or whatever. But running someone against the most liberal member of the Senate in a razon-thin race? That alone has cost the Greens my vote for anything for at least the next couple of election cycles (get back to me once Zell Miller is considered a "Liberal." Should be about 6 years, the way thing are going now).

It truly is pathetic that during a memorial service they can't leave their political beliefs at the door. But then again most people in politics has such a messed up perception on life itself it's not surprising.
Jessy Ventura walked out in the middle of it. Jessy rules. Too bad he's not running for re-election. But I guess he saw that politics has less credibility then wrestling.
Don't really know if going into detail here is the right place because we all know a wrestling messageboard is no place for wild speculation and innuendo

Well, when the Minnesota Green Party announced their intention to run someone against Wellstone, Nader's running mate (Winona LaDuke) said WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING? and led an unsuccessful effort to stop it in its tracks. Then Nader himself endorsed Wellstone and (justifiably) backhanded the Minnesota Greens for nominating McGaa in the first place.
The Minnesota contingent had their reasons, I suppose, but they certainly didn't speak for the party on a national level, and they took a LOT of flak from damn near everyone on the left for their actions.

Heh, funny you should mention Zell Miller, in Georgia, everyone loves him, Democrats and Republicans.
