Holy shit! According to 411, Brock will take on Lewis in a shoot fight where Brock can't punch, and Angle will take on Moorer. Lewis and Brock will be tight, but I would mark out more than ever before if Angle schooled Moorer.

Sorry, but... who's Moorer?

Last time I saw Michael Moorer I thought David Tua was putting him on his ass in the first 30 seconds of Round 1. Lewis should be fighting Klitschko.

I really have no use for Lewis. Probably the only reason he would consider a match with Brock Lesnar is to give him a reason to avoid Klitschko. In the end, heavyweight boxing will probably be left with it's last money match left: Lewis vs Roy Jones Jr.

I'm half surprised that Lewis won't be having a title v title match with HHH to unify another set of belts into the big gold belt. Then we could see HHH no-sell a shot to the nuts, though that might be the 'roids helping him.

Even if this actually happens (which I doubt), if UFC has taught us one thing, it's that grappling/submission skills are essential to win a mixed-martial arts competition. If I recall correctly, over 60% of their fights end in submission, and even those that don't usually involve a good deal of holds.

Therfore, I predict that Chris Jericho will defeat every boxer, wrestler, and kickboxer in existence with his higly-varialble arsenal of 1,005 holds!

Wienerville's resident WCW mark states:

It'd be even better if every third move performed by Chris Jericho was an ARM BAR! Ha!

But keep in mind that each arm bar will be considered a separate move. Move #831, arm bar! Move #346, arm bar! Move #521, arm bar!

The article also said that Angle and Lesnar have to take drug tests, since the event will take place in Nevada.

I can't wait for those fights to take place.

When all else fails, go to boxing. That seems to be their move when they've gotten themselves in a corner and need a way to get media attention. And taken at face value, it's not a bad idea.

The report speculates about Lewis and Moorer being able to wear their gloves and punch, with Lesnar and Angle not wearing gloves and not being able to punch. It sounds like they're thinking of it in terms of setting up a no-contest exhibition like the Ali vs. Inoki exhibition, where neither guy has to lose - though I think they're a lot more likely to convince Moorer to take some kind of loss to the Olympic champion at the right price than to have the World Champion look bad against Lesnar. But anyway, I say it's not a bad idea because what WWE wants right now - and really, what it needs is to trigger some media attention. I would imagine the average person on the street doesn't know who Brock Lesnar is, and it's not a name like "Stone Cold Steve Austin" that would get you to look into it. If you hear about Stone Cold, you think about "that tough son of a bitch, DTA, Oh Hell Yeah Texas Rattlesnake Bottom Line bastard!" (which I believe is his name in the Fire Pro games) and you at least wait to see who he is. When you hear the name Brock Lesnar, you think "Hello, my name is Brock Lesnar. How are you?" So they have this imposing monster of a guy with an interesting background who could be a break-out star, but only if they get people to see him first.

Angles about Kane's electric semen and society's most forbidden of all loves (sorry, incest, better luck next year!) or a licentious motorcycle enthusiast won't do it, but if you can somehow get one of your guys in the ring with the Heavyweight Champion of the World, there's just about no way any sports program or mainstream entertainment program can avoid covering the event. So instead of saying "Perhaps you'd like to sample our fine array of gentlemen who enjoy sexually violating the dead?", this is their way of saying "Come for the giant super-athletes who do amazing things in the ring, stay for the necrophilia", which is a much better way to get people in the door.

And once they get people watching, as long as the actual matches aren't completely embarrassing or painfully dull/fake on the Celebrity Boxing level, they stand a chance of people being in awe of Lesnar and knowing the name, maybe checking him out the next week on TV. And you could do a lot worse than have two guys with legit sports backgrounds - a national champion and an Olympic gold medalist - and who both seem to be actual good guys who probably wouldn't have anything shameful for the media to throw out there.

The story (and, this late and this far down, I remember to note that this is all still just speculation and what not) also talks about using this to set up the Angle vs. Brock match they're holding out. I haven't brought this up here yet, but I think they're making a huge mistake by turning Brock face before his match with Angle. Brock should go into this as the unstoppable embodiement of evil, destroying all of WWE's best competitors before they're finally forced to ask the greatest wrestler in the company to stop him, allowing Angle to go in as a face. Brock's first real loss needs to come with him as a heel and someone else as or turning face. But that aside, they seem to want to have these two involved because of their backgrounds in athletics, which leads me to believe that they're going to set up their first meeting as the world's two best athletes (hence taking on professional boxers).

That would be an interesting way to build it, though by having it be about two wrestlers wrestling over being wrestlers who wrestle, it seems to run counter to the Passions direction they're currently going. Maybe they can combine the two, and in addition to having them beat pro boxers, Angle can travel around the world before their match and beat a Shaolin master ("It's really great that you achieved enlightenment, master, but...where are your gold medals?") and a Muy Thai kickboxer, and then Lesnar can beat up a whole class full of wushu students and kill a fighting Panda with his bare hands, like in one of those Tekkens. I would buy products advertised by spots purchased during the airings of a television program like that, I tell you.

There is a big reason why this doesn't work.
If Brock and Angle both win, everyone will say, 'Fixed Fight, Vince McMahon, blah, blah, blah.'
If Brock and Angle both take punches to the jaw in the first 30 seconds and go down like a sack of potatoes, Vince would have just killed the credibility of guys who can carry the business for over 10 years.
The most important reason why this wouldn't work: When was the last time Vince McMahon promoted something outside of wrestling that wasn't an abject failure and an embarrassment?

With all due respect I find the very prospect of a Roy Jones Jr./Lennox Lewis heavyweight fight to be absolutely ludicrous. I'm sorry, I believe Roy is the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet, but Lewis would turn him into a grease spot. Roy's what, 5'10''? 195lbs. totally blown up? Lennox is 6'5'', 245lbs. If Lewis was a total no-talent, MAYBE I could see Roy taking a split decision. But Lennox is far more talented than he's generally given credit for. There's not a man alive under 220lbs. who can beat him.

As for Brock/Lewis and/or Angle/Moorer, I have to suspect that the boxers get their asses handed to them. A grappler can learn to avoid strikes more easily than a boxer can learn to avoid holds. Lewis has more of a chance against Brock than Moorer does against Angle, but it's still all about one lucky punch.

Anybody give any credence to the ``news item'' posted some time ago about Angle beating Brock in a backstage shoot? I believe it was also reported at the time that Angle beat the Big Show straight up too. Or do you tend to discount it on the strength of the fact that it could have hardly been more than a backstage timespender for the boys? (I'm assuming neither guy would take much credit for a loss or victory from a little one-off with no training or preparation beforehand)

Roy Jones has already signed to meet John Ruiz for the portion of the Heavyweight Title that Lewis does not hold in March. If Jones were to win that fight, Jones/Lewis in the fall of 2003 would make a lot more money than a Lewis/Lesnar 'shoot fight' that many people would believe was fixed. The sports books I'm sure would prefer the heavyweight title match compared to a shoot fight.

I'm talking in terms of the gambling public. In boxing, their still is the aura of believability. Throw Vince McMahon into the equation, and Katie Vick could do a run-in to defeat Lesnar and Lewis.

The American gambling public anyway... isn't there some betting house in England offering up odds on WWE ppvs?

And yeah, hasn't Moorer been shit for awhile now? I guess Riddick Bowe and Buster Douglas (SNME, people!) were busy trying to not embarrass themselves.

I think it's ludicrous to risk getting Angle and Lesnar seriously hurt by guys who know how to kick butt in real life.
That's not to say Angle and Lesnar can't win fights, but it's just not worth the risk.

I'd rather see Knoble/Rey for the belt, since (despite the great character) Hardy still isn't anything special in the ring.
