After years of just going straight through my vcr to my tv for cable, I am now using a cable box for the premiums. For the life of me, I can not get it to work through my VCR the way that I used to. Am I doing something wrong? Am I just stoopid?

My understanding is if you want to record premium channels and PPVs with digital boxes (or coded analog boxes)that you have to set it up so that the VCR records whatever channel you are currently watching. I don't think you can split the signal and do it anymore. I wound up buying a splitter so that I could tape one show while watching another, but it keeps me from taping PPVs and having premium channels come through my VCR.
I dunno...for whatever reason...I can't even WATCH VHS with the box hooked up.

It might seem simple, and apologies if you've checked this already.
You'll need to go from the wall to the box, from the box to the VCR, and finally from the VCR to the TV.
If you have the box between the VCR and the TV you won't get anything through.
An alternate solution is to split the cable...one to the box, and one to the VCR. Use A/V cable to run the cable box to your VCR's A/V in.
Run the output from the VCR to the TV.
Now...you can tape anything premium off the box on L1 (or whatever your video in channel is) and still watch "regular" cable using only the TV as a tuner.
The only drawback if you want to watch the "box" you have to tune the VCR to L1 to use it.
Not at all, and the wrong way is exactly how I have it set up presently. Thank you very much for the help from the both of you.

Well, if I had to recommend any, I recommend the 5 Thrawn books Timothy Zahn did. So much better than the prequels and most of the other SW novels, all of which have the dreadful stench of bad fanfic all over them.
