There, there, RingMistress. It'll be OK. After all, you got to see Mr Olympia this weekend, & that was a good thing, wasn't it? Don't worry -- I'll keep an eye on Hunter while you're sobbing in the corner. (Always ready to be helpful, I am!)
Manga, I applaud your restraint. BTW, I've been waiting for your perspective on No Mercy -- holding out on us ?
I came by here first... I just can't wait to get over to the main forum to see how the firestorms are raging today. I'm half-suprised that we're still in business today. (Happy, but suprised nonetheless.)
The guys are snarking at each other over on the main board, natch. It's gotten to the "don't tell me that you're quitting wrestling bcuz I don't care and your a tightass and LIGHTEN UP!!!!" stage. You all know the drill. ;-)
RM, I know from whence you are coming. I'd imagine it's as if a boyfriend, a serious relationship type you had known and adored for a long time, had suddenly turned out to be a child molester (or mannequin molester). Naturally you feel betrayed, and you've got the right. When someone has basically asked you to care about him and keep your attention on him for years, it's no damn fun when he turns around and gleefully destroys the relationship with a disgusting stunt. You tried to keep your faith going and defend him through the rough bits, and this is how he repays you. I'd be sick too.
Now, I didn't feel that way about Trip before this happened (though I once enjoyed his work very much). So I am not heartbroken--I'm just grossed out. I've enjoyed a lot of non-tasteful WWE skits in my day, though I've muted the sound or left the room during some of them. I've never before had to leave the TV off--this is really of a different order, IMO. An invisible line has been crossed, in my mind if nowhere else.
I'm not going to tell anyone who enjoyed the skit that he or she is a pervert, because it was only a skit and we all have different senses of humor. Laugh and enjoy--laughter is a good thing. Simulated necro-porn doesn't jibe with my idea of a good joke, that's all. I get enough of that kind of thing in the daily news. ;-)
You're absolutely right and I appreciate that, Madame Manga. Coming from a non-HHH fan, I'm truly touched. I'm just thinking about what I should do now...
After picking up the Summerslam DVD today, I have to say my anger from last night's RAW has been soothed by the comforting balm of Kurt Angle in all his perfection. Seriously, is there anything about Kurt that ISN'T cool?
But I have to say, if not for Kurt Angle, the WWE would be seriously in jeopardy of losing an 18 year fan. And man, I stuck with them during the dreadful Doink era.
I have been trying strenuously NOT to jump on the HHH hate-wagon. Because I had fond memories of 2000, because I thought he'd eventually get back to being just as cool as he once was. I have to say, I have very little faith now.
As soon as you're born you start dying, so you might as well have a good time.
I'm a huge supporter of free speach, and I would defend to the death WWE's right to put such skits on TV if they please, but...
I really really hope they lose sponsors over this. I know I won't be watching RAW for a week or two at least. I feel really sorry for all the wrestlers that had nothing to do with this that aren't going to get watched on TV by a great many people... but I don't want to risk watching something as grotesque or worse than what we saw last night.
If they had tried to go Over the Top from the beginning with this feud and made the whole thing cartoony... it might have worked better... but making the first part psudo reality and then going to this... ugh.
I'm just here for the sweaty mens... pay no attention.
Well, I actually feel sorry for them too, not as sorry as I feel for HHH and Kane for embarassing themselves through all this at the behest of Vinnie Mac and the asshole who came up with this. Maybe they're one and the same. Huh? Kevin Dunn? The production guy? What? He said he was inspred by the black humor of the X-Files, CSI and Six Feet Under?! The X-FILES?! I WATCHED THE X-FILES!! IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE X FILES!! NOTHING! HOW COULD HE SAY.. Ahem. Well, I'd say a month off is in order...

Agreed. At first I thought they were going to go back with the whole, "Kane was physically and emotionally scarred, but now he's better. Oh wait, here comes mean ole HHH to reopen some wounds. Let's watch Kane struggle through emotional hell while HHH plays with his mind, making him think he caused a death." Or something like that. You know, have some sort of character traits addressed that might make people care about this? Necro-porn makes me care about very little. We go from HHH messing around with Kane's mind to HHH messing around with a mannequin in a span of what, three weeks? I'm almost afraid to see what's in store for week #4.
And I know I'm supposed to suspend disbelief and everything, but can someone explain to me how it even made sense to have the setting as "The Wake" if supposedly the autopsy showed semen? I mean...isn't an autopsy conducted BEFORE the body is cleaned up for the viewing?
Ugh...maybe I shoulda thrown my brain at the TV. >_<
"This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
Regarding the plotline discrepencies : There were droves of continuity errors in the skit, which reinforced for me that the skit/video was meant (even within plotline) to be an over-the-top farce, intended to piss off Kane mightily. HHH & Flair (in plotline) weren't trying to make a "realistic fake" to incriminate Kane; they were making a fake intended to maximise Kane's embarassment, & to get as much into Kane's head as possible.
Well, it certainly got into my head, so it must've worked. Still, this angle is so beneath Flair. He actually doesn't mind this? If not, then he's braver than I'll ever be.
I'm not ignoring this topic -- quite the contrary, I think its really interesting, but I'm having some trouble figuring out exactly where I am on it. My basic gist seems to be that I have to be (or get)
