...go see The Ring. Extremely creepy and well done. I'd put it up with my favorite horror movies: The Shining, Night of the Living Dead, Halloween, and Exorcist. The two kids in this movie (the girl in the "movie" and the lead's son) are going to haunt my dreams for awhile.

For some reason when I see the ad, it reminds me of The Others... and I hated The Others.

Eh, I'll be seeing this tonight and most likely bitching about it later.

If you REALLY wanna be scared, hunt down My Little Eye. I'm not sure what level of release it had in the U.S, though.

Well, it does hold the distinction of having one of the stupidest taglines in movie history.

Commercial: “Before you die, you see The Ring.”

Me: “...but then you're dead, so you don't really care much after that.”

“And I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more,
Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles and falls down at your door.”

I was relatively pleased with The Ring, actually. It's also gonna make Ghost Ship look really lame in comparison.

I think Ghost Ship will do a fine enough job looking lame on it's own. Triple that for Darkness Falls.

It was... interesting. Part that kinda bugged me was how some parts were over-explained, and others left me to assume certain things or be just downright confused.

SPOILER

Horse + Boat = slightly disturbing.

Worth a look. Some legit scares to be had. The little girl in this movie is scary as all hell.

The problem though, is that every damn movie that's supposed to be scary gets a creepy little kid. It's the most overdone plot device in Hollywood, bar none. Why not try a new approach? Old people are creepy too!

I am a bit worried about seeing this film, because I loved the original Ringu. However, must of the reviews and feedbacks seem really positive.

In order to see if anyone in the US film studios still has any balls, how about an attempt at remaking Battle Royale?

I see you haven't seen Mullholland Drive then.

(or, for that matter, The Golden Girls.)

I don't know, I'm a pretty intelligent viewer, and I just got back from seeing the ring, and I thought there were a few too many loose ends for my liking. As was said before, some things were overexplained, while others were not explained at all. *

The "false" ending, (those who saw it know what I mean) is pretty cool though.

Okay, so I have a few questions.
Why exactly did the little girl choose to go multimedia (video and phone) to curse people?
Why was the little girl killing innocent people anyway and allowing her father to live?
Couldn't Watts have just destroyed all copies of the tape, thus ending the curse once and for all?

1) Hey, it's the 21st century, she's gettin' with the hi-tech program. (Television and the telephone are extremely common communication media, and the message was intended to reach as many people as possible.)

If I've heard correctly, the various Japanese derivations of the Ring(u) saga involve different media -- for instance, the Dreamcast game involves a computer virus that kills in a week.

2) Dunno for sure why Daddy lived. Maybe he made a copy. (He asks our heroine if she made any copies, when she reveals that she knows about the tape; maybe he did know the secret.) Alternatively, her revenge (spreading the family's secrets around the globe, the hard way) was targeted at him; it may have been more fun for her to let him live and experience the fallout.

As for why innocent people were killed... does evil need a reason?

3) (more serious spoilage here)

a) If she'd destroyed the tapes at the end of the movie, she would've killed her son by doing so (IMHO). My take was that it wasn't the actual physical copying of the tape that saved her -- it had to be viewed by someone else (thus transferring the curse to them, until they passed it on to someone else, and so on.) The tape was intended to propogate the message; you either had someone new watch it (increasing the "I've seen it" ring by one, so to speak), or you died. Simply copying the tape and sitting it aside (or destroying it) wouldn't have done anything to spread the message.

That part is left open at the end -- who would Aiden have shown the tape to, and would he have died if he DIDN'T show it to someone else before his seven-day period expired? It wouldn't have been the first time his mother thought she understood what was going on, but was wrong.

b) The girl made one tape from beyond the grave, and stated (before she died) that she could make physical objects, like the pictures, by thinking them into existence. Who's to say that she couldn't have made more by force-of-spectral-will?

Nah, they misbooked a small amount of revenue (2%) which is negligable in a company that size. Don't forget that they have a real company behind them the has real revenues. Not to say that it isn't a big deal but they are not in trouble.
