I stuck through the whole show, too, and I have to admit, the "sex tape" was a little on the AWFUL side, but nothing that would turn me off wrestling. I know I'm a diehard and I stick through all sorts of shit, but it really could have been a lot worse. I'll go knock on some wood now to prevent it from getting there, however.

I was flipping all nite long, but good Lord I tried my damndest to avoid the HHH stuff. The snippets of that skit were just so not funny and not cool and not interesting and not even offensive to anything but my sense of humor. I know some people will find that funny, but I just am not one of them. If you did, more power to you, it's obvious that Raw is written for you, not me now.

Next Week, I plan on rushing for 200 yds. against the Bears:
Detroit 23, Chicago 20
Bears go to 2-4 (next vs. Minnesota Oct. 27)

Can I just say - I laughed my ass off when he started removing her underwear.

Please lighten up, people - it's good for your health. Reduces blood pressure. I'm sure most people who don't search for reasons to be negative about WWE probably got the *JOKE.*

I am so sick of hearing internet wrestling nerds with their panties all in a bunch because WWE gives them something to laugh at but the nerds don't know HOW to laugh at WWE anymore. Drama and excitement and action are great. Super-low-brow sick-o comedy can be fun too. If it's not your thing, that's fine. I'm not saying you have to like it - but please stop acting like it was the end of humanity. That's a little . . . over the top.

The skit was tongue-in-cheek all the way and for a once in a while thing it wasn't THAT bad.

Also . . .

-------------------

Austin-Bradshaw vs. NWO said:
"The only thing that kept me watching was JR in the main event. You could tell that he wanted to shoot on this whole debacle, and it looked like he was about to.

"Why is Flair going up there? That never works! He's been doing that for the last 20 years!"

---------------

Austin-Bradshaw, He says that line about once every two months. He wasn't "shooting." This goes for his other comments tonight, too - he was being good ole' JR. It's his *character.* Being in character is the OPPOSITE of shooting.

And vsp -

The length of the skit is part of what made it funny, man. If it was short it would have seemed too serious. The length added to ^absurdity^ of the joke. And it wasn't THAT long.

Again, generally speaking, the whole damn IWC needs to take themselves less seriously - and more importantly - take wrestling less seriously.

"And in front of the entire world, I want to show my little boy that sometimes - just sometimes, you have to FIGHT to be a man." - Michael S. Hickenbottom, the man who does not take part in angles that conflict with his religion, swearing violent revenge on HHH in full view of his two-year-old son. 11:06 PM, EST. 08/05/02. This angle, which has gone from being a "clean" wrestling match to an all-out unsanctioned street fight for bloody revenge is apparently sponsored by the book of Joshua.

I turned off Raw a couple of months ago when I went back to basic cable. From the posts that I have read this evening, I definately don't have any regrets in doing so.

Hopefully investors in WWE stock will dump their stock back into Vinnie Mac's lap.

"Again, generally speaking, the whole damn IWC needs to take themselves less seriously - and more importantly - take wrestling less seriously."

You need to stop taking internet wrestling fans so seriously.

Seriously!

"I am so sick of hearing internet wrestling nerds with their panties all in a bunch because WWE gives them something to laugh at but the nerds don't know HOW to laugh at WWE anymore."

Jesus Wakeboarding Christ do I love pretentious shit like this. There's more bitching about the bitching than the actual bitching. Not to mention the richness of a guy on a wrestling message board (thus an internet wrestling fan) collectively persecuting 'the hatas' as *gasp* nerds. The whole 'WWE gives them' bit is fabulous too. Aces even.

Oh and did it ever occur to you fans with access to the World Wide Web might say something sucked because...I dunno...they think it sucked? That instead of being out of touch with the WWE, the WWE is out of touch with them?

And here I thought the Tuesday Mornin' Apologist was a dying breed online!

Agreed. I consider myself a "moderate," but necrophelia has no place on a wrestling show. I mean, what ever happened to "This guy doesn't like that guy, and that guy has the title belt, so they fight." That's been the focus of boxing for decades, and you don't see them resorting to shots of Mike Tyson screwing a corpse.

Not that I don't think Tyson would have sex with a corpse if there was money on the line.

I turned off RAW at that part...You know the one...Kane...driving off with HHH. Oh, that's right. The end. Damned glad I stuck around too. If you didn't take it seriously as "WWE Presents: A Kevin Dunn production of WWE RAW is Dramatic Theator, Starring Jean-Paul Levesque as Triple H. And Glenn Jacobs as Kane," then, it was good dirty fun.

If you took it seriously...eh...sucks for you.

I should have listened to spf2119 about HHH because he is the smartest Wiener around.

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Vikings (1-5) - Well on our way back to 1-15.
Badgers (5-3) - Apparently the Motto is now "Wisconsin: Seeing How Many Close Games We Can Lose"
Twins (OUT) - Oh well, if we're still around next year...
Buffy 7.4 earns a 6.123 Out of 10 for being contrived and rather stupid. But at least the characters are less annoying than last season. And next week: All Anya, All the Time.

To defend... well, myself:

The length turned me off. Was it absurdly long? Sure. Was it funny? Probably for some people.

So did Lawler NOT SHUTTING UP about it. There was a point where it's being a good heel announcer, and there's a point where you just need to go away already.

Also... I'm seriously veering into territory Faust covered. Should I stop watching Raw? Sure, if only to learn how to laugh at them again.

You're right Faust, we DO need to lighten up. How could we all fail to see the humor in HHH pretending to fuck a corpse?! This is comic gold! My blood pressure is getting lower already! My panties are unbunching! If WWE says it's supposed to be funny it must be hilarious! MY SIDES HURT FROM LAUGHING NOW! OMG HHH is wearing a Kane mask, what a wacky parody artist! He's like Weird Al, Saturday Night Live, SCTV, and that cool guy from Police Academy who makes all the funky noises with his mouth all rolled into one! I don't need any other comedies when there's necrophilia jokes being made!

Seriously Faust, sometimes not liking something has nothing to do with needing to lighten up, or having panties in a bunch, or with being uptight workrate nazis. Sometimes what they shovel at us is just not funny. I GOT the joke, the problem is the joke sucked IMO. You found it funny, bully for you. I didn't. But why you feel the need to call everyone who didn't enjoy uptight or unable to get a joke or nerds who don't know how to laugh is beyond me. People didn't enjoy it. You did. When the ratings come out, I'm sure they'll show 3 million others who kept watchnig too, so it's not like you're in the beleaguered minority or something. Take your own advice and lighten up.

I disagree. Watching that skit was like watching the last segment of Saturday Night Live 3 times in a row. It's so horribly written that you have to assume that they did it at 3am the night before while pepped up on coffee beans. The problem with the RAW skit is that like someone else said, it went on for 8 years, which killed any sort of pacing any comedy parts could have had.

I also loved how Triple H kicked the trunk open while fighting to get out, and then had to hold it shut. For anyone who missied watching WCW go down the drain, shit like this is the kind of stuff they were pulling right up till the end. Enjoy it, because a year from now we'll all be laughing about it.

On another note, can someone PLEASE tell me what the hell the point of Lawler talking was tonight? I don't understand why ANYONE would be *that* excited to see video of Kane having sex, much less with a dead woman. Maybe the whole pedophilia lifestyle is just a cover for something much, much worse.

I'm with Excalibur & Faust here. I thought it was hilarious. Everything from the blurred over breast grope to "I love the smell of formaldehyde". It was so over the top ...

(Maybe tomorrow, I'll join the discussion about "lighten up" & "panties in a bunch", but I'm still giggling too much to get my blood pressure up over that kind of thing.)

It's obvious that the WWE needs to do something that will appeal to the senses of humor of the audience at large so next week, I recommend they show footage of the actual wreck where Katie died. Kane can call 911 and when they tell Kane to make sure Katie is really dead, he can shoot her and then ask what next.

Faust, you're RIGHT ON...When I first heard about the SPOILER, I was assuming it was HHH himself doing all this, and even though THAT didn't make sense, it would've pissed me off, but this was a heel's attempt at attacking and mocking a guy, through PARODY...something HHH has done more than a couple of times in the past (DX Skits, anyone? Yes, those weren't this extreme, but HHH wasn't that extreme and INTENSE back then, either.), so something like this fits in with the crap his character would do...and you don't think this is the end of this kind of stuff, do you?
So, lighten up, yo...I find it really funny that so many would turn it off, which won't make a difference, unless those who did are Nielsen families, YET they will turn around and spend money on a PPV, fueling the buy-rate, and showing Vince that people will spend money on his crappy booking...
Just a little hyprocrisy going on...

You know, it's not that necrophilia is incapable of being funny (unless you're easily offended). It's just a more outrageous version of that American Pie/Something About Mary type humor that emphasizes transgressive behavior. But those movies play upon the potential (and sometimes eventual) embarrassment of characters you identify and sympathize with. This was just HHH dressed like Kane, in a video intended to humiliate Kane. Maybe if these were characters I actually cared about, I would have laughed. Or maybe if it had been a gifted comedian doing it, instead of HHH (whose expressions are limited to a smirk and a grimace--not that I think anyone else on the roster would have done a better job. Well, maybe Christian). Instead, it was just boring and long (people say "brevity is the soul of wit" for a reason), and that's why it was offensive.

But on the other hand, Lawler, JR, and Kane seemed to completely deconstruct the whole concept of necrophilia and wrestling in general tonight. "There is no necrophilia in wrestling" was JR's way of reminding us it's all a show, and no actual necrophilia took place. Kane's threat to defile HHH's corpse was more along the lines of the over the top humor that the video allegedly had (though it still failed to make me even smirk). This was so weird and self-referential that it almost made up for the dullness of the video.

And I watched it the whole way through too, but I guess I don't have some point to prove to Vince, Stephanie, HHH, and all the other WWE luminaries who are no doubt reading this.

Here's a simple perspective.

I thought it was stupid. I wasn't offended. I wasn't taking any of it seriously, I just thought it was stupid and not-funny. I don't think I could be more lowbrow than I already am. It had nothing to do with whether or not it "belongs" on a wrestling show. I didn't stop watching, I won't stop watching- I just think it was more pointless than anything, other than to get Triple H over as a cool/funny heel which is just a fucking awful idea. I don't care for him, what little amount in me that cared about Kane is gone, and Raw just isn't very good right now. I tune in each week hoping it gets better. Lately it hasn't been, and I don't think lame skits to build on heatless feuds are quite the way to go.

A few points:

-I'm guessing that we're to assume Triple H's tape was made to anger Kane even more. So why was Kane so relatively cool and calm when he came out for the match? He should have been beating Triple H half to death and required having the entire locker room pull him off of HHH. That's hatred, that's emotion, that's something that's going to make a fan want to see Kane get his revenge on HHH.

-Before that even happened, HBK cut the legs out from under Kane by saying that HE is going after Triple H. HHH is THAT important! He needs two feuds at once! It seems like it'll make each seperate one seem less important.

To your first point, I'd agree that the intent was to piss Kane off even more. But that didn't work as planned. Rather than go psycho during the match, he went all counter-cerebral-psycho. We did see Hurricane getting the car ready before Kane went out. Clearly Kane had planned to do something other than provide the obvious reaction that HHH/Flair expected.

Second point, regarding HBK. I don't expect that we're going to see HBK running in with a sledgehammer in the immediate future. This will be a lurking, insinuating storyline for a while, possibly for longer than the Kane angle plays out. To me it fits nicely with "ueberheel plays mindgames, gets mindgames played back".
