Hey guys I was just watching No Mercy last night, and let me tell you ...these announcers set a new standard for "unintentional comedy". A lot of times I find myself laughing out loud at the things they say. For example, last night...
Michael Cole: But of all the women he can sleep with, Tazz, why did he choose the woman his daughter has a problem with? (paraphrase)
Tazz: Cause Dawn's hot, I dunno.
If anybody can recall or if anybody hears quotes like this, post it in here....There's almost a new classic every week.
I remember hearing about a quote by Tazz during the Hurricane-Noble feud. Noble took off Hurricane's mask, causing Tazz to exclaim, “It's Gregory Helms!” HA!
“And I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more, Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles and falls down at your door.”
--“500 Miles”, traditional Scottish drinking song

Best qoute of the night were multiple Lawler lines during the Kane/Undertaker match. But MY personal favorite was the Lawler/JR bit about the internet. Lawler insinuated something about JR going to somebody's locker room and asking them a bunch of questions and JR's response was, "I did no such thing, where'd you hear that? The internet?"
Lawler was on last night however. The highlight of my night was his commentary on the women's match and the World Title match. Even when JR seemed out of it, King seemed REALLY on for some reason.
"WHO WRITES THIS CRAP!?" -10/7/02 The night Kane was announced a murderer.
"Pootie Tang? More like Dootie Tang!" -Chris Rock
One word: BUCKEYES! With that being said, BLAM! In your face!
Oh Deion once again I totally disagree. I thought Lawler was totally pathetic last night. Worst performance since HLA. He was the worst thing of the Pay Per View.
I mean starting out the pay per view saying "Wouldn't it be funny if this huge cage fell on someone". I guess he is joking, unfortunately I couldn't find the humor anywhere... And atleast Cole/TAzz were smart during the World Title match to focus on the match and stay away from the idiotic storyline. Too bad Lawler couldn't do the same. In the H/Kane match he continued to remind us about the stupid set up to this (which safe to say no one cared) and even took the time to say how hot he thinks Tracy is (he talked more about Tracy then the SD crew did) and asked JR if he thought pregnant women are hot.
On the women match Tazz/Cole actually put that match over saying how surprised they are when the girls even hit the simplest moves. Amazing how they put that match more over then Raw crew (Lawler). I tuned him out mentally when Trish entered the ring and he said her puppies can only be seen on Raw. Yup that helps, helps as much as you accusing the refs of playing grab ass during a legit pull-apart brawl on the Raw before the PPV... I guess he said Trish's chest can only be seen on Raw cause he was upset that Cole/ Tazz was actually putting the guys in the SD tag match over. Wow God Forbid the commentators put the talent over instead of themselves.
One thing I noticed last night that it looks like a lot more of the Smackdown stuff is a lot more over then the Raw stuff last night. From the World to women to tags. Some has to do with the performers some has to do with the build but again some HAS to go on the shoulders of the announcing team. And it sure seems that the SD announce team is doing a better overall job of making their matches important (even the ones that aren't)
Well my favourite quote came from Tazz during Noble/Tajiri/ Nadia
Cole "Tajiri is sure working over Noble" *goes to a shot of Nidia from behind* Tazz "Umm I sure wouldn't mind working of that" Cole "You really like Nidia don't you?" Tazz "Who says I'm talking about Nidia?.. *laughs at self* I'm just kidding"
Also like after they showed a recap of one of the horrible main event story they come back with a shot of outside the building and Tazz asks "What is this days of our lives... another world?"... LOL
Tazz and Cole are the best announcing team in YEARS. They are what Lawler and Ross used to be. Cole hasn't toned down the hype maching at all. Instead, he's fine-tuned it. Of anybody employed with WWE right now, Cole nearly single-handedly has been the guy to remind you why Smackdown is better than RAW. It's no coincidence that after a brilliant match, Cole is reminding everybody that this match was on Smackdown.
Tazz is also brilliant. Almost to the levels of Bobby Hennan getting in the head of Gorilla. Take this conversation from Smackdown...
Cole: Gonna be a great weekend with WWE in the Music City! Nashville on Monday! Tazz, did you see Rikishi doing the two-step on Broadway in Nashvil--
Tazz (interuppting): No.
Cole: Great.
Tazz: Nah, he'd doing a four step or som--(Torrie music starts) Uh...shouldn't I be hosting a bikini contest now or something?

Tonight stopped being about who is right and who is wrong - it became about two men wanting to prove who the better man is - for YOUR entertainment. And that, my friends, is the credo of SmackDown!"
I gotta agree with the Cole/Tazz bandwagon thing. They made their matches truly sound exciting, while Lawler was like a bad parody of a wrestling announcer. I didn't laugh at Lawler, instead I just tuned him out as best I could. Someone said it best in another thread, that Cole/Tazz did a better job getting over the match between Dawn and Torrie (two pieces of eye candy) than JR and Lawler did with the freakin' women's title match. It's gotten to the point where not only do I enjoy the Smackdown team more, I prefer Tenay and Don West to listening to Jerry Lawler making an ass of himself.

I find it interesting you call Lawler's commentary embersassing, when you later put over Cole and Tazz for doing the same thing.
Oh, well, to each his own. Lawler was the one guy who stood out to me, and I thought he was just plain entertaining, especially when it came to putting over the Triple H/Kane storyline. I mean sure, he went to ridiculous levels, but it's LAWLER. It's his style. Oh, well, one man's opinion I guess.
And I'm going ti disagree about things from Smackdown being "more over." Angle, Benoit and Mysterio's entrances weren't even that over. They got MORE over through the course of their matches. And Smackdown didn't have any face get the pop that Booker got. Plus, Torrie/Dawn Marie wasn't over at all until after the pinfall.
Count me as one person who laughed at Lawler. Guy was ON FIRE.

I believe Tazz was refering to Cole when he did the 'blondes, brunettes and women too' line..
Tazz is full of those little one liners. The difference with Lawler seems to be it isn't his main focus.
I read NHS' opinion yesterday before the ppv and I was expecting the worst. Lawler definetly wasn't bad at all. "Trish' puppies..only on Raw" was actually funny cos it's true. Him saying Kane is a murderer is just an old school heel announcer rule. Agree with the heel wrestler. It's just that his voice is annoying..
My quote has to be Tazz going 'Kurt Angle..wicked awesome!' I love it when he says that.
1 final thing on Tazz. I love that he isnt a heel, isnt a face. He puts over the wrestler's skills most of all.
